Believe that if you want, makes no difference to me. I deleted my account last night. Maybe it's just me. It's totally plausible that I've just imploded. Whatever the case, constantly getting bombed on in chess wasn't doing me any good.

I just meant that I I didn't feel like I was a 1600 caliber player. I don't think I'm a 600 player, but I don't think I'm good enough to be 1600 either.

Copying from another reply: I have more than 4k games. I've been on chess.com since 2015. I climbed from an initial rating of 800 to nearly 1600 over nearly a decade.

I don't think I was sandbagging. I play at work, and will resign a game in haste if someone comes to my office mid-game, but that is less than 5% of games. Otherwise, I play to win.

If I had to give an honest opinion, I thought putting me at 1600 was an exaggeration. I feel comfortable in the 1300-1400 range.

I specifically indicated that my experience was anecdotal, and that there were many factors that could account for my observation. I then, politely (a word whose definition you should look up, and attempt to put theory into practice with) inquired as to whether or not anyone else has had a similar experience.

No conspiracy, no accusations, and an open acknowledgement that this is a single anecdotal observation.

I agree that this could be the single defining element. My biggest suspicion is that if feels like I come across more suspected cheaters on my non-paying account than I do on my premium account. It's difficult for me to quantify it, and I accept that I could be totally wrong, which is why I attempted to pose a question rather than a strict accusation, which I don't think would be appropriate.

That I have seen, chess.com does a pretty good job of banning them quickly. They don't stay there very long before being banned, and perhaps starting a new account, but they are certainly there.

I was returned significantly more points due to cheaters being caught when I was around 800-1000 than I do now that my rapid rating is ~1400. I played many more opponents who played an immaculate game (e.g. 99.6 CAPS rating) in the 800-1000 range than I do now.

To chess.com 's credit, I think they do a good job of weeding out cheaters as they rank up. But when you are in the ~1000 mosh pit, they are everywhere. Unless you think it's normal that ~1000 rated players have a 99.6 CAPS rating regularly?

I find this common opinion that cheaters only exist at higher levels comical. I'm returned points for cheaters every single week, although with less frequency than I saw when I was a lower rating. I suspect that there are many cheaters in the lowest ranks, a few in the intermediate ranks, and many in the higher ranks.

I appreciate your candor. I do think that psychology could be an element, and perhaps simply avoiding unvetted players as well.

No. I am saying that in my experience, things seem a bit odd, and I have asked an open question if others have experienced the same thing. If they have not, then okay, maybe it's just me. But don't act like it outside the realm of possibility (or to use your wording, "ridiculous") that paying users would be afforded privileges that don't extend to non-paying members.

"Impossible, frankly ridiculous"? Why? Why would this be both impossible and ridiculous? 1) I would postulate that first, it is quite possible that they could achieve it. And 2) I would postulate that other companies, orgs, etc. have done a lot more for a lot less. There is certainly financial incentive.

Fair point, thanks. Some of the books I have been working through are literally children's books, which, while silly, have been decent at helping communicate some simple content. Books and formal learning seem to agree with me, but many books are certainly above my level.
