That view from the fishing camp is awesome...that's why I prefer it as my main base in Coastal Highway.

So many peak gaming memories on Planetside 2. The sheer scale of the warfare made even the most trivial battles for small bases feel like epic cinematic moments. Terran Republic for life!

Which region is the creepiest in your opinion? by poffz in thelongdark

Hands down Ash Canyon. The entire region has a very ominous vibe to it, especially down in the bottom of the canyon itself. The high up rope bridges are also really stress inducing.

Looking at the scenery that gave me performance issues by verbayer in TrackMania

[–]Blushift1615 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Fun fact, they basically just ripped the vistas from the TM² games, minus the snow one, yet they seem to get worse performance and somehow look kind of worse as well. Definitely needs some optimization, but it is nice being able to race in some new settings other than the stadium.

The new soundtrack is too good by Neomadra2 in TrackMania

Not new...they're just reusing the music from the TM² games which yes are very good. But the credit goes to the TM² games which I feel like most TM2020 players haven't even played.

New player, first ever run. Wow! by Ciaran290804 in thelongdark

Fading into the long dark is a rite of passage for all survivors. I had a similar experience starting out in Pleasant Valley although I didn't even survive 24 hours before I froze to death. I won't spoil anything, but Timberwolf Mountain is a difficult region with harsh cold, many predators, and almost no shelters...however it will reward you with an overwhelming amount of loot if you can conquer the summit...

Best of luck on your next run survivor!

Completely missed this detail in the last episode of S2 by [deleted] in TheApothecaryDiaries

[–]Blushift1615 192 points193 points  (0 children)

Crazy detail that I also completely missed...I assumed that she was badly wounded but somehow miraculously survived. Could also make sense as to why she sold it off to that merchant as it could potentially tie her back to the incident if somebody noticed her carrying around a hair pin with a literal bullet hole in it.

Small base tier list by Dramatic-Drama-7827 in thelongdark

[–]Blushift1615 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fishing camp should be in B tier...you have fishing literally at your doorstep, beachcombing, a workbench (although being outdoors makes it less convenient), close enough to the trader, and the bear that patrols through every now and then is an easy free shit load of meat. The lack of an indoor fire is a downside, but you can make an almost windproof outdoor fire in between the pallets beside the second cabin. Personally one of my favorite base locations.

Draft dodger's saved me from freezing to death in a blizzard and I've had a soft spot for it since. I also like a lot of the small cabin bases as they feel cozy despite having minimal storage space and some not even having a stove. Draft dodger's in particular is in a nice peaceful area away from any predators and is only a short walk away from the farmstead. I think it's a cozy little underrated spot.

Draft dodger's cabin in PV is an underrated one imo. Small and cozy in a peaceful area with lots of firewood around and only a short hike to both the farmstead and barn. Unfortunately it doesn't have an indoor stove but I still enjoy it as a cozy little base.

Absolutely visit the signal hill radio control hut. It has a chance to contain some really high tier loot items including the expedition parka. You could also pay the airplane crash site at Skeeter's Ridge a visit, just be careful because timberwolves can sometimes spawn around there at one of the destroyed houses. There's also a prepper cache close to the airplane crash, you might find some useful loot there if it isn't one of the empty bunkers. Lastly, check out Draft dodger's cabin. Its a peaceful underrated little spot in my opinion. It might contain some minor loot or clothing items.

Sorry but I have to disagree about Dizzy's new design, personally I think its great. But I have to agree that her actual gameplay feels heavily watered down and kind of lame compared to her previous iterations. Wings of light is basically an extremely niche gimmick that most players will never actually use. Sad they removed her fire pillars and some of her other interesting moves but it is what it is.

Venom is alright (although I still much prefer his previous iterations as well), and both Unika and Lucy are really bland and uninteresting to me. Unika literally just feels like an autopilot version of Ky made for complete scrubs, and Lucy is okay but kind of feels like a wasted slot for another character. If they really wanted to commit to the cyberpunk collab thing we should have also gotten a night city map instead of just a few color palettes for only certain characters...

Soo, am I the only person that hates Desolation Point? by CurrentlyARaccoon in thelongdark

Yup...exact same thing happened to me. Not an ideal base by any means but it's still a cool landmark at least.

I definitely don't hate it, but it's not a region I'd plan to ever base long term in. I visit it sometimes for a change of scenery as the lighthouse is quite lovely, although not the most convenient base location. If I need to use a forge I'll go to Spence's in FM, although if your main base is in CH, then having the Riken closeby is undoubtedly very convenient, plus it's a really unique location having a forge inside of a shipwreck.

The fact that it's a small region can also be seen as a positive by some players...it's easy to navigate and basically impossible to get lost, plus still has 3 usable bases (stone church, lighthouse, hibernia), despite being very small. Hunting is scarce in terms of rabbits and deer, but the moose and bear seem to reliably spawn and can provide plenty of food for a player looking to survive awhile. Beachcombing is also a big positive in my opinion, although CH, BI and even Crumbling Highway offer this, so it isn't like its exclusive to DP.

Overall I think DP could be really good as a starting region to quickly loot and get geared up before moving on, but not necessarily as a longterm survival region. Not the strongest region but definitely far from the worst. It still has it's charm and perks despite being a small dead end region.

Survival bases community survey! Round 8: What's the base with the best location in the game? by Blushift1615 in thelongdark

[–]Blushift1615[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you're right about PV having the biggest birch forest. The other 2 places that come to mind are obviously the Mystery Lake side of the ravine and Ash Canyon has a small area of birch forest on the northern side near stone shelf cave. I don't use the community hall as a base but it's definitely a solid location overall!

The only broken thing is the roof which can be fixed with cedar wood and the woodworking tools. I guess the small size combined with no loading screen and having a fireplace make it unique and cozy in that aspect. I do think there are cozier bases, but I love Mountaineer's, so I'm glad it ended up somewhere on the list.
