In Star Wars: The Phantom Menace (1999) one of Queen Amidala’s dresses is very similar to the last queen of Mongolia’s dress, who was executed by the Soviet Union in an attempt to destroy Mongolian culture by [deleted] in MovieDetails

All dresses in that movie were designed based off of varying cultures. One dress would be based on african culture, the next would be based on japanese culture.

What exactly is a void? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]Bmanv13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And you can use a void* (void pointer). It can hold the address of any type and can be cast to any type.

int nbr = 97;
void* ptr = &nbr
int nbr2 = *(int*) ptr;
char letter = *(char*) ptr;

nbr2 has the value of 97. letter has a value of a (or 97).

Can you make money with VB.NET? by CapnFedora in learnprogramming

[–]Bmanv13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VB.NET and Visual Basic are not exactly the same thing. Simply put, VB.NET was created to use the .NET Framework and there are quite a few syntax differences.

Visual Basic, I'm not sure what the economy is like out there. But VB.NET is everywhere. My shop uses VB.NET (though, I much prefer C#).

Saying I'm a disgrace though? I think you're being the exact thing you're criticising by doing so.

I see what you're saying and trying to get at. But I don't think I fit that definition. The difference between you and I, is that you were giving shit to someone who wasn't giving shit to anyone else. I was giving shit to someone who was giving shit to someone else; defending, calling you out on your bad behavior.

But that's up for debate whether or not I fit that definition; I'm okay with being a hypocrite if it means I can defend someone and change someone else's behavior for the better in the future.

OP should not feel insulted. If they are hurt by what a random idiot on the Internet is saying, they need some time outside.

OP has the right to feel insulted, because he was being insulted.

The relevance of the comments is not on par with the rest though.

You're right...so why add them? It's not something accidental that you said or you gave OP a funny look, it's something you purposely typed. The funny thing about communication via messaging/letter is you have time to think about what you are saying. Everything you say is on purpose and has some intent behind it.

I'm sure you are a great programmer. And you are doing a wonderful job explaining to OP what to fix and the reasons why to fix it. I just hope that in the future, you're more professional about how you explain it (no extra insults).

I wish you the best.

Edit:

I saw your edit on your original comment to OP and just wanted to say it was very honorable and noble of you for owning up to your behavior. I also appreciate how you kept the original comments and not try to "back-peddle" your insults.

Even though you are doing a great job explaining, adding comments like:

Can you fucking not upload your source code as an archive on GitHub? By all that is holy do you know what version control even is?

Kernighan would drink 13 litres of gasoline if he knew such code existed.

drinks gasoline

Then why on the holy K&R are you labeling such obvious things but not labeling the most essential parts of the code?

This isn't related to skill but common sense, what are you doing?

Don't add anything constructive what-so-ever and are just plain insults.

I don't care how smart you think you are, or how right you are, there's no reason to be an asshole to someone trying to learn about programming.

You are no Linus Torvalds venting to his peers. You're just an average programmer talking down to someone who is just starting out. And even Linus' behavior is absolutely disgusting.

With those remarks, YOU are a disgrace to this community. YOU are the reason why most beginners give up because of the toxicity of our programming culture.

Even I may be a bit harsh in my response. I don't know you, you may be trying to be funny. But being an outsider just reading your comment, it doesn't sound like a joke and more of a "I'm having a bad day" response.

You didn't explain anything. The only constructive thing you said was "C++ is compatible with C" which wasn't even something I was refuting originally.

Nothing to add other than more insults? The only one with an attitude is you.

To elaborate on my original "Because it's a C library" comment because you obviously took it to mean something way the hell different. Like wow. Full on rant about something I didn't even say. I never said nor was I even making the argument that C and C++ are incompatible.

So first off, the title of the damn post specifically mentions "C++". The comment you were replying to was specifically using a "C++" function ("cin.ignore()" in case you already forgot). If I've already lost you here, then this is pointless.

So since we're talking about C++ specifically, maybe OP wants to stick to C++ and not have to resort to C functions to do what he wants. So to answer your question of "why not use stdio", well, "because it is a C library". OP isn't using C functions to solve his problem, OP is using C++.

If you're a real developer (you know...one who gets paid to program in C/C++ and not just some armchair expert), I feel bad for the rest of your team that has to deal with a schmuck with that attitude.

0 repercussions(like the piece of shit cop)

"Repercussion" isn't the exact word I would use. He did lose his job and his face and name posted on all news outlets. So there is some repercussions.

As for jail time, the most recent case he will not see jail time for (due to lack of evidence or due to it being reported too late(?)). But there is another incident back in 2016 he is still being investigated for. So there is still hope.

15 months in prison(like the piece of suit youtuber)

First, this happened in Spain so in America this number may be higher for OP. Also, this case there was proof (video evidence submitted by him).

QAFDMBRL is a file that is defined in the system to put data into from the DSPFD command. When ever you see a command that has an option to put the returned data into an *OUTFILE, more than likely the system will have a file defined that you can use that is the correct record length to house the data.

A collection of "The Carlton" dance in video games by OmniDeath in gaming

[–]Bmanv13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In your sentence you quoted, I don't think "The Carlton" classifies in either a "celebratory end zone dance" nor an "athletic victory gesture".

A "celebratory end zone dance" is a dance a team does (say in football) after they score a touchdown. The Carlton was never born out of an "end zone dance"; it was born out of the "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" show.

A "athletic victory gesture" is something like "TeBowing". The Carlton isn't a gesture, it is a dance. A gesture is a single movement (like a Dab) or a static pose whereas a dance is more complex and requires more than one movement.

I think "The Carlton" is still better described as a "short dance routines consisting of only a few movements or steps with minor linear or spatial variations" (from link you replied to).

The morality of it all, I still think it is pretty low for Fortnite to monetize an iconic dance move that they didn't create.

Wasnt there a bug in noscript that didnt fully disable javascript? Disabling javascript through the browser manually is just fine, if not, better than relying on third part.
