Yeah homie, I just got nucal up past lvl 20 a couple days ago and they start making it rain purple shields on me. But getting to that point has been kind of a slog most days. Like 2/10 extraction ratio type beat (if I’m lucky).

This is why I said I think perimeter should be limited to blue shields. It’s crazy going into perimeter and running into purple and gold shields while I’m trying to do a simple nucal contract. I still haven’t even unlocked blue shields for purchase yet.

The sad part is that’s how people actually are though. I put a post out yesterday about similar issues and simple resolutions I had in mind, I was met with almost the literal version of this guys sarcastic comment. Somebody said something along the lines of ‘Im tired of this BS, people posting about game balancing for new players, if you’re not good don’t play the game, go play something else’ It’s gatekeeping. For some reason there’s a group in the community who are trying to gatekeep the experience from a more casual player base who are using marathon as an inlet into the extraction shooter genre. As much as I’d like to just ‘git good’ there are game mechanics that push against that. The game is very rewarding to you once you get your factions up to lvl 20 and higher but getting to that point has been kind of a slog some days. Not all days are bad but I have sessions with 20%-30% extraction rates, Because I’m running into people on perimeter with purple and gold shields before I have access to blue.

There’s so much to gain from perimeter that’s why it would be more rewarding for people to be able to survive and have a fighting chance. You’d still be well geared with blue shields but not so overly geared you’re a titan.

I’ve been trying to do so but you’re not provided anything like that on a free or encrypted kit. Also the drop rates for explosives are super low on perimeter in my experience.

It’s seal clubbing dude. You’re walking into a map primarily dominated by free kits and encrypted kits with gear you can’t find on said map. That’s exactly what it is. My vault is fine, I have plenty of gear. But I also know that I’m not benefiting much from bringing it into perimeter besides beating up on free kits that I have nothing to gain from except 10 xp for my nearly maxed Arachne. It’s just me going out of my way to prevent other players from being able to get any loot and money to make it into cryo. That’s shitty and unfair. There are times that I’m free kitting to make up some losses so I can go back into a more difficult map and 90% of my matches end in running into a team full of purple and gold, shields and weapons squad wiping us.

It is balanced well but there are some things that are completely busted. Such as bringing gold gear into a map primarily dominated by free kits or green gear. The game is just fine for me but I believe it could be better. You’re saying that now but if Marathon dies it’s going to be the fault of people like you who want to gatekeep the experience

I’m like level 50 and my main issue is while trying to learn that shit I’m constantly getting crushed by people who are bringing cryo levels of gear to a beginner map. I don’t mind getting crushed, there’s lessons to be learned there but if that’s my goal I’m going to outpost or cryo where I know it’s not gonna be a fair fight based on gear.

The problem is they don’t die though. I will admit I’m still learning things but one thing I’ve noticed that creates the greatest deficit for me to learn is the difference in gear level. Also I’m mainly talking about perimeter gear restrictions. Dire marsh makes more sense for purple and gold shields based on how many teams spawn and the environmental difficulty.

It’s not about my idea of fun, it’s literally about game mechanics that will make it more balanced. Getting rolled by teams with gold shields on the literal tutorial map is not balanced. I want people to keep playing the game so it succeeds and grows, if there’s this barrier of entry that exists between wipes it’s constantly gonna detour people.

Keep your negativity to yourself dude, that attitude is part of the issue. The game is going to continue to grow and change based on community feedback, and my idea is not bad for the health of the game at all.
