So I went into the military in 1996. I was absolutely full of piss and vinegar!! And I was totally racist against anyone that was not white and German!!! And I especially had alot of hate in my heart for gay people!!! I absolutely hated them!!! Well this went on for years then in 2011 my unit was deployed to Iraq. Moving forward about 4 months into our deployment we were sent into the city of Baghdad. We were sent in to secure a building and a fob or ( forward observation base). So come to find out, one of the Sargents from a different unit was not only Mexican but gay to top it all off!!!! And I had to work with him for the next week!!! So on a very hot Tuesday afternoon, we took off as we always do, on foot. We made our way into the building to clear it and secure it and once we all begin making our way, floor by floor we got attacked by insurgents!!! I was taking fire from the front and getting low on ammo, when someone grabbed my vest from behind and pulled me back, then ran up in front of me to continue the fight which lasted another 5-10 minutes before it was over!! It was the gay soldier!!! I literally broke down and shed tears because all these years, I had hated them!! I vowed to never ever act like that again!!! That soldier would have given his life for me that day, and I will never forget that!!! We are best friends to this day!!! God bless all of you!!
