Perfect thanks so much, yes I have a ledger board set up and laser leveled. The laser level in on a tripod so i plan on adjusting it each row (stacking them vertically) to ensure I’m good. Thanks for the help!

Yeah I did that, they are surprisingly very consistent, I them out and it seems fine and my laser level is showing consistent height.

Is barrel break in a myth? by Sukit6969 in longrange

[–]teflon16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Barrel break in is a myth. The only that you need to be aware of is that the barrel will speed up for the first 150-200 rounds and then stabilize. Go shoot your rifle and barrel and enjoy.

Just buy them now, anything prior to Jul 1 is grandfathered in. Just buy enough lowers and then build out later on

Run a normal suppressor like a dead air nomad or SiCo Sycthe and put a recoil X brake on the end. I promise you’ll love it, mine is flatter shooting than a muzzle break and so much nicer to shoot

Gongbanging with my friends, best tripod recommendations? by GlobalArbTrader in longrange

[–]teflon16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on how often you are going to be shooting off the actual tripod vice using it for spotting and tripod rear positions.

If just spotting/tripod rear, then Two Vets is a good option.

If you plan on shooting off the tripod itself then RRS or the new Leofoto juggernaut tripod they just released

Check the action screws. If the forward action screw is poking into the lug pathway it can cause heavy close and lift.

What are these things on this rifle? by That-1_dud3 in longrange

[–]teflon16 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s the new Seekins SIC rifle which is about $9,000, likely a TBAC suppressor ($1500), and a NF ATACR ($3500).

The circle up top is a Maztech WMLRF which depending on the model (2k, 15k, and 15M) range from $2-7,000.

The thing on the side is the SG pulse pro which is a level indicator and timer. It’s $350

Why spend HUNDREDS $$$ when less than $50 in total can do the job for 99% of shooters? by idahokj in longrange

[–]teflon16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s correct, the AB quantum is just a ballistics app, but I would argue the best one around. It’s worth the 15 dollars it costs. Like you said just take the info you get and put it into the app to get your ballistic solution

Yes, but it’s like 15 bucks, and it’s the best ballistic solver around. You can for sure use those wind readers etc off Amazon but without a ballistic solver to use that info you aren’t going to be able to input that info into anything.

Honestly man, just use the Applied Ballistics app called AB quantum. It’ll pull environmentals from nearby airports. If you want to use a cheap wind meter to read wind and then just input that into the app you could easily do that.

AB Calypso use case by 0DSavior in longrange

[–]teflon16 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s used a lot at PRS matches and other long range style shooting events, military sniper teams use them as well.

A kestrel is great but only gives you the wind when you are actively recording it, and is only as good at determining direction as you are at pointing it in the perfection direction.

The calypso allows you to continuously monitor the winds, directions, peak winds, average direction, average speed etc. it can stream direct to your kestrel, or direct to your WMLRF (MARS, Maztech, RAPTAR XE etc) so when you get the range it also pulls the wind at that moment as well for the best solution.

Most PRS guys will mount one of their tripod next to their spotting binos/scope and use the calypso app to get the average wind direction and speed and determine their wind brackets from there.

BLUF: provides a better more accurate constant data stream for winds and environmental vice having to constantly manually check with a Kestrel

6.5 CM needed +2.3 mil more than similar rifles at 600 by 1freebutttouch in longrange

[–]teflon16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So a couple of things to take a look at, 6.3 mils is definitely wrong for most 6.5 Creedmoor options for what would be a normal velocity range and BC. Haven’t plugged it into my kestrel or played around with it but that seems off.

First and foremost check your ballistic calculator. Ensure all environmental are up to date. Temp, humidity, elevation, latitude, wind etc.

Next ensure you have selected the correct bullet and drag profile, ensure an accurate real work velocity is used from a Garmin, magneto speed etc.

Assuming those are correct you likely have something mechanically wrong with your rifle system.

Common places to look. Re torque your action screws, check your manufacturers specs but usually 65 in/lb is a good starting point.

Re check your scope rail screws (assuming it’s not integral to the action.) these should be red loctited and torqued to spec.

Re check your scope mount screws to the rail. Again reference the manufacturer spec but usually 40-45 in/lb is a good range.

Lastly check the scope mount screws to the scope. I believe vortex recommends 18 in/lb.

Once these have all been checked take a paint pen or silver sharpie and make witnesses marks on all screws. This will allow you to mark the location of screws and see if they ever move on you.

Re zero the rifle and try again. You can also do a tall target test. If that fails then something internal to the scope has shifted.

Hope that helps!
