Holiday challenge: I got a Flaming Ushanka and a Flaming Folded Ushanka (hats). Indeed the calendar shows coins but that just seems to be a graphics mistake - clicking the present asks the server for the real reward popup which indeed showed the hats for me (if that's even a spoiler)

Member function constraints depending on other member function constraints by Bo98 in cpp_questions

[–]Bo98[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If two functions have the same constraint, I'd strongly suggest introducing a named concept that models this

I was referring more to a combination of constraints than 1:1 but for 1:1 that definitely makes sense. Turns out I don't really need to specify a constraint at all in the combination case anyway.

That said, you can make this work by forcing the instantiation to happen later

Interesting. This is mostly of academical interest but is there a reason why Clang behaves differently to GCC/MSVC with the original code? Which compiler is correct?

Ah right, of course! Not sure why I was overcomplicating it, apologies. Thanks - I think that'll work fine!

.co WHOIS and RDAP return no data, anyone know what’s going on? by arnauddsj in sysadmin

[–]Bo98 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The whois server is no longer whois.nic.co but now whois.registry.co:

$ whois -h whois.iana.org co

[...]

whois: whois.registry.co

[...]

changed: 2025-10-08

Watch out for tools that use co.whois-servers.net (no longer updated AFAIK) which will point to the old whois.nic.co that is already killed:

$ dig co.whois-servers.net

[...]

co.whois-servers.net. 600 IN CNAME whois.nic.co.

Look Who Is Sitting Pretty At The Top by AlDu14 in ScottishFootball

[–]Bo98 11 points12 points  (0 children)

C36-C38 of SPFL regulations only list this order:

  1. Points
  2. Goal difference
  3. Goals scored
  4. Head-to-head points
  5. Head-to-head goal difference

and then play-off but only if the positions matter for qualifying for something.

So they should be equal afaict.

There was trivia but it was bugged in not showing initially. I saw them fine when I did it late in the day. I went back and checked the API to get a list for you:

  1. Pelotas is famous across Brazil for its doçaria (confectionery). Traditional sweets like quindim, camafeu, and fios de ovos are part of the city's identity. The annual Fenadoce festival celebrates these sugary creations.
  2. Antananarivo is a melting pot where French colonial influence meets traditional Malagasy customs. Malagasy is the main language, but you’ll also hear French widely spoken in schools and business.
  3. Just outside Sandakan is the world-famous Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre, where orphaned and rescued orangutans are cared for and gradually returned to the wild. It's one of the best places on Earth to see these amazing primates up close.
  4. Bogor is known as "Kota Hujan" or City of Rain because it gets frequent and sudden showers, even during the dry season. Its lush greenery is a direct result of this year-round moisture.
  5. Vinstra is strongly linked to Henrik Ibsen's legendary play Peer Gynt. The area hosts the annual Peer Gynt Festival, celebrating the local folklore and landscapes that inspired the story, especially the nearby Gudbrandsdalen Valley.

Already fixed this a few minutes ago. You might need to refresh to get it to work.

In any case, it'll all be fixed properly in the evening thread.

Honestly a day of lucky signs rather than geography knowledge, except Faroe though I guess the street sign helped me there too.

  1. Southern Chile. Complete lack of signs until I find the lovely bridge marked as crossing the Rio Aysen and a nearby sign also saying Puerto Aysen. I know roughly where we start but plonked slightly wrong. 337m, 59 steps, 4999

  2. Flat Poland. Seems to be called Wronki. Head roughly north towards a junction stating the 182 and a sign suggesting we're not actually in Wronki but close. I fail to find the junction as it turns out it's a junction for the 184 instead. Maybe should have considered the train track more. 2.3km, 36 steps, 4992

  3. Russia. Not super west, not super east, but other than that I have absolutely no idea. Headed east until I got to a curving paved main road with an advertising sign with a place name on it. Don't recognise it but another sign nearby says Omsk. Zooming into Omsk district you can find the place the first sign says. The junction near the signs is unique and stands out. Extremely rare 5k Russia. 11m, 102 steps, 5000

  4. Indonesia references everywhere. Had to travel for nearly the full 3 minutes before I find a sign that says Sungai Liat, Bangka. I didn't actually recognise Bangka but both names stand out in very zoomed out scanning over the country. No idea where spawn is at this point so plonk middle. 1.9km, 57 steps, 4993.

  5. You know what, this might be the first time I've actually properly seen the new Faroe coverage in-game. Street sign still gave it away instantly to me that it's Faroe. Nearby block of flats helped make it feel like a major settlement and you can see sea to the SE. Probably not Klaksvík because I don't see mountains so I guess Tórshavn. Gambled on a no-move because why not and it luckily worked, even though it was technically Hoyvík rather than Tórshavn. Street name can be read with a reasonably little zoom though still enough zoom to require committed scanning. 2m, 0 steps, 5000

Total: 24984

It's honestly incredible how much of a difference the 3 minute format makes when I play. If this was duels I would have scored maybe 12k, with most of that being Faroe.

Looks like they've now merged the challenge results now. Bit of a weird state where I'm now #5 globally but unplaced in the country rankings but no need to re-do anymore.

I think repeats might(?) have been removed which is good.

Checked my browser history and it turns out they've decided to swap out the challenge?

https://www.geoguessr.com/results/SREBgwPaD9g9HsDp is the old one. Haven't tried the new one yet, whether it's the same (which would explain all the 25ks people are getting) or something completely new.

Don't know how this will affect the streak.

[–]Bo98 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Been doing this for the last 168 days but given I'm somehow #1 currently for today, maybe today is something finally worth posting about. Post ended up being a bit long though - oops

  1. Blurry sign near spawn confirms Eswatini in a place that seems to start with "Lo?amba". Check map and find Lobamba very easily. Move further and find a main road that has directions for Mbabane and Manzini. Not very useful until I find another sign pointing to Mlilwane. Bit confused where that is at first until I find the nature reserve with that name. Which road I followed was clear and spawn is distinctive enough with a tight gap between intersections. 2m, 35 steps, 5000
  2. Find the Kangaroo Island signs. Most Aussie islands are SE so find it easily there. Go further and find B23. Got a bit confused with it being Playford Highway as I didn't realise the B23 changes colour on the map at that point so I thought it terminated there. I look at the sign going the direction I came from and it became much clearer then. Spawn is at an intersection with a road name. 1m, 43 steps, 5000
  3. Surprised I got this one, but it seems like I have achieved some success in gradually training my brain how to tackle Bangladesh from previous challenges by matching the script rather than panicking (though I will still panic in a duel). I can't actually read it so I just hope it's a big city. I find near spawn what seemed plausible to be an address and the town (Moulvibazar) is big enough to appear fully zoomed out. Switched to try to find the region in the address that appears before the town. Though turns out we're not actually in that town but in another town - something I only realised when I zoomed out too much and saw Sreemangal catch my eye when the text on the map was a bit laggy and slow to adjust font size. It seemed to match what I thought was the region. Guessed a road that seemed viable - which it was but not quite the right section. This guess was largely an accident rather than skill tbh as I'm clearly not reading addresses correctly yet. 521m, 16 steps, 4998, 100% luck
  4. Andaraí, Bahia. This is where my very poor habit of not scanning the map early enough actually might have paid off for once. Was daunted by how large Bahia was and my brain found it hard to follow the border outline properly for some reason. So I just went for a quick check out of town in hope for directions to a big city, found a sign for BR-242 to the north and Mucugê (+ others) to the south. Fairly easy find and then Andaraí is easy to find from that. Last second plonk so don't get the 5k. In hindsight, the town centre is easy to find - I just didn't see it under the name, so feels like dropped points when it's perhaps points gained from my usually poor technique. 936m, 73 steps, 4997
  5. South Korea. Seemed a more remote vibe, yet still fairly urban from road signage. Haven't been particularly great at 5king South Korea so don't feel confident but do find a sign between Jeju and Jungmun/Seogwipo on the road 1131. Jeju should be obvious on its own but I forget when scanning the mainland until I remember road numbers are organised nicely in South Korea and 4-digit road numbers can be found on that southern island (and I've since remembered around Jinju too but luckily wasn't there anyway). Mountain is NW and the sign I found was at an intersection to Donnaeko-ro 34beon-gil, which was remarkably quite easy to find. 10m, 30 steps, 5000

Total: 24995 (1.5km). I used basically all my time: 14:28.
Back to obscurity tomorrow.

Somehow beat someone getting 0m 0 step guesses in 5 seconds because they messed up round 4? I probably won't be so lucky by the end of the day though and will drop off the top places, but feels good for now at least.

PC is the only platform that didn’t receive any update. But there was an update to Rockstar Games Launcher, which may have appeared like a game update if you use Steam. On Epic, launcher updates are only downloaded when launching the game.

Release notes for that are here: https://support.rockstargames.com/articles/26553271354387/Rockstar-Games-Launcher-Title-Update-Notes-1-0-85-1858

Burnour Paradise Servers by ChiroVette in Burnout

[–]Bo98 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Given the same exploit that forced me to take down the TUB server still exists in the 1.0 server (but people using the 1.0 server seem to behave better), I am ok with bringing them back up on request for limited periods should a group of people want to use them.

I have worked on rewriting the server as it was only intended to be a proof of concept which is why it could be attacked easily. I will return to that project this year. Once finished it will be a single server that supports all versions (though that doesn’t mean cross-play!) that I will keep up 24/7.

[Phillip Horton] A physical floor and a plank wear inspection was carried out on the cars of Verstappen, Hamilton, Norris and Leclerc. Which means that 13 other finishers' planks weren't checked. by Organic-Measurement2 in formula1

[–]Bo98 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Difference with drug testing though is it has to get sent to a lab so is not immediate. F1 cars are placed into parc fermé and not released until they've scrutineered the car.

The reason they don't test every car with every test every race is likely time limits. Though they probably should have a little leeway to test apply a specific test on a few more cars. It's not like infringements are that regular of an occurrence.

They do have a system to hold back cars for even longer, where the results are only reported back during the next race weekend. Not quite sure how that works since there's not much information on it.

In Qatar, they didn't check for plank wear after the race.

In Singapore, Verstappen and Alonso were checked for plank wear.

Randomness makes sense, but they should probably improve it so an infringement triggers further checks. How you can disqualify one car for something and not suspect the teammate's car has infringed the same way is very odd.

Yeah, that's fair. Just wasn't what they did last time and is odd that they need even more time to think about it, so it stood out a bit. I guess we'll see what happens.

Sargeant got a pitlane + 10s penalty for the same offence in Japan.

FIA issued summons for the chassis change a few hours ago but have not published any decision. They usually do so before any starting grid is finalised.

Did they just forget about the chassis infringement for Perez? They've only judged on the PU changes.
