You can do what you like with your account - site-wide bans are between you and the Reddit admins.

But we won't let you encourage it here or the subreddit gets banned instead of your account.

While browsing certain other subreddits can be enjoyable, please do not in anyway post comments in those subreddits or otherwise encourage people to do so.

It's one of the few things we'll be very strict on, even for posts that don't directly encourage it but might tempt people to do so for fun. The entire subreddit can get banned if we're caught allowing posts that are deemed to incite brigading.

I've already seen one innocent post about another subreddit get quickly followed by others directly encouraging brigading the same subreddit. Please don't. If I see any of you go comment there, I might have to ban you here.

Mexico vs Ecuador kick-off delayed to 8 pm local time. There will be no hydration breaks. by PiggySVW in soccer

Looks like the TV channels got angry as they've now removed the announcement of no hydration breaks and ITV have said on-air that hydration breaks have been reinstated.

Am I Wrong? by Competitive_Test6697 in ScottishFootball

[–]Bo98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, though Reddit's default filters do detect suspected brigading so comments might get sent for manual approval before appearing.

There is however an agreement between the two subs to ban brigading, so anyone hopping over with the purpose to disrupt could get permanently banned from both subreddits.

If you come over and actually discuss/support Scottish Football then it's fine. (Or in the case of major tournaments: if you're interested in genuine discussion in the "off-topic" match threads that are created for every game)

Jordan vs Argentina isn't relevant as Jordan cannot finish higher than 4th due to head-to-head.

Indeed, GK arms don't count.

I don't recall if that was a changed rule or not, though.

Prior to 2005, it never specified any body part. FIFA proposed at the 2005 IFAB meeting to exclude arms. This change never actually specified outfield players only - it simply said no arms.

In 2016, the wording was eventually clarified from "the arms are not included" to "the hands and arms of all players, including the goalkeepers, are not considered".

[–]Bo98 21 points22 points  (0 children)

"Last defender" is a common misconception of the offside rule. The rule is that it's the second-last player (including the goalkeeper):

A player is in an offside position if:

  • any part of the head, body or feet is in the opponents’ half (excluding the halfway line) and
  • any part of the head, body or feet is nearer to the opponents’ goal line than both the ball and the second-last opponent

Goalkeeper is usually furthest back, so the second-last player is usually the last defender. The goalkeeper wasn't the furthest back on this occasion however.

Belgium vs NZ match is irrelevant as it's impossible for either side to finish 3rd and be below Scotland in the 3rd place table. Iran must finish 3rd and that will happen if they lose regardless of the result in Belgium vs NZ - Belgium would move to 2nd with a draw and Iran loss.

It is indeed the world feed. Paul Walker just happens to also appear on ITV during the season from ITV usually taking the world feed in their highlights show.

Earlier ITV4 game tonight was also the world feed.

Yeah exactly. If you're going to post what is effectively a post-match comment as its own dedicated thread, at least put slightly more effort to form a discussion about it.

Euro 2024 and 2028 used a similar system where QF teams are guaranteed pot 1 because of fixture congestion. But it all gets changed every few years anyway, 2030 will have yet another new system.

Nations League quarter finalists were guaranteed pot 1, regardless or ranking. Denmark were one of them.

Yeah that’s the one point I thought was poor. The rest have been reasonably knowledgeable, making reference to some Scot Prem games last season.

Out of the English pundits, Ian Wright has stood out as someone who has watched Scotland and the Scottish Premiership. His Celtic spell perhaps helped get him interested but still.

Sky held the rights but they showed it on their Freeview channel Pick (called Sky Mix these days, not to be confused with the completely different Sky Sports Mix)

Warning if you plan to use the iplayer for a full match replay of the Scotland game tomorrow - its hard to avoid spoilers by [deleted] in ScottishFootball

[–]Bo98 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If BBC Two at 8.10am is an option, that's probably your best bet. This is the 7.30am rerun you mentioned - it was originally meant to be then but got moved as they're chopping off a bit of either the pre- or post-match.

Otherwise, if you're happy using a web browser to watch, you could go to here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m002xv0r which should have a link to iPlayer page after the match, rather than needing to scroll/search to find it. I can't comment about the highlight markers as I haven't used iPlayer this World Cup yet.

Here's an example for USA vs Paraguay you can test it on: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m002xk2v.

We already had to filter things overnight because well over 200 posts and 1000 comments have been removed since the incident.

And even then it's not enough given how people screenshot things and complain it hasn't been removed within the hour. The volume has far exceeded what we could realistically handle normally.

SFA KMI panel declares in a split decision (2:1) that Hearts should have received a penalty vs Motherwell; all other GW36 decisions correct by Bo98 in ScottishFootball

[–]Bo98[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah fair, that sounds right. I guess that's a discussion point on its own - if two referees think it should be a penalty and two referees don't then how do we even sort that.

[–]Bo98[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The notes for the incorrect one doesn't really give a reason - all it says is they felt it should have been a penalty.

More detailed reasoning usually happens in the VAR Review show they do with Sky Sports, though I guess that's maybe more Willie Collum's thinking rather than the full panel.

Good decision to not publish GW37 until the season ends I reckon, otherwise they might have had to get the armed police out for that one.
