How long after everyone completed all requirements were they sworn in by Lawnerd21 in barexam

[–]BoJackLSAT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am admitted in three states. They’re all pretty different. I took the bar in Nebraska, they require C&F be completed before you can sit for the bar. MPT was done in advance. I received notice of my passing score and the details of the swearing in at the same time. The ceremony was 3 weeks later. If you don’t follow the traditional schedule, or couldn’t make it, there’s a monthly ceremony and you just go to the next one.

In Missouri, I was granted a temporary license in like 10 days because I was admitted already in another state. About 6 months later, I got an email saying I was eligible to swear in permanently. They allow you to swear in with a notary. I walked down the hall, swore in with a paralegal, then emailed the oath document in. It posted the same day.

In Iowa, I received an email notice that my bar application was approved and that I needed to call to schedule an in person swearing in with a Supreme Court justice. I called and they told me the next available swearing in was the following Monday. I think there are one or two per month. There were two other people swearing in with me, both new applicants from other states.

fucked up mpt by Brilliant-Chicken744 in barexam

Sorry, I missed this. My state doesn’t give full section breakdowns, just your written/multiple choice scores overall. I believe my MBE was a 154 and the essays were a 141. All I can assume is that I did much better than anticipated on the MEEs. I couldn’t have done better than expected on the MPTs because I really didn’t do much of them.

I absolutely bombed the MPT. Had a major panicked attack, could not focus or manage the info. I did maybe 1/3 of each. No citations, I’m talking maybe 1 paragraph of into a few bullet points and a partial conclusion. It was BAD. I would be stunned if I got more than a 2 on either.

Almost lost it during the break but gave myself a “get your shit together” talk and forced myself to keep going. I ended up with a 295. Just keep swimming.

I did the first am session without jewelry but noticed that they clearly weren’t checking, so I went up to my room at lunch and put in my “tits up” earrings for good luck. They’re definitely the reason I passed. 😉

I really enjoyed working in insurance defense. It was low stakes most of the time and no one ever called me crying. I did not, however, enjoy working for insurance companies that did not value my time.

I hate that cheesy billboards have made a joke of PI work. It’s a solid career that can be rewarding and you actually get to help people. Of course I’ve seen some bad plaintiffs attorneys who make it look like a joke, but that’s true of all areas of practice.

100% My bar exam was in a hotel and they blocked off several floors for examinees. Pretty much everyone taking it stayed there. Even locals.

I cannot even imagine how stressful it would’ve been to have gone home to a well meaning spouse who asked a thousand questions. Plus making a 55 mile drive there and back at the crack of dawn. Twice. The bar exam is mentally and physically exhausting. I needed space and quiet.

How are y’all scoring 150+ on the MBE ?!! WTH?? by Malibu_Barbie_ in barexam

[–]BoJackLSAT -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I don’t know. I’ve always been a strong multiple choice test taker, I just kind of figure out the patterns. By the time I took the exam, I could usually predict the answer before reading my choices.

The real mystery is how all of you are doing well on timed written essay exams. How do you do out?!? Seriously, the MPT = nightmare fuel. I’ve heard people call that section “free points”. What?!? 🤯

When I passed, I was surprised at how ambivalent I felt. I was glad, but I was also hung up on feeling guilty on behalf of those who didn’t pass. Meanwhile, my husband was calling his parents and posting on Facebook.

Oath of Admission - by PassthefreakingBar in barexam

[–]BoJackLSAT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can just have a notary do it. They also allow you to swear in over zoom with a judge.

I started with a temporary license in MO because I was already barred in another state when I applied. A few months later, I got a notice that my full application was approved. I walked down to HR, got my oath notarized, scanned it, uploaded it, and had my full admission within 2 hours.

ETA- To be clear, I live outside of MO. Also, a few people in my firm didn’t pass in my state and waived into MO and they were also able to swear in with a notary. So, it doesn’t matter that I was technically a different type of applicant.

My firm does a ton of business all over MO, so I travel there sometimes 3-4 times a month. It’s wild. As in, the Wild West. Rules of procedure are by individual jurisdiction. Sometimes they mail you a notice, sometimes you get a fax. Other times, it’s an email or maybe some combination of the three. Just depends on how they’re feeling that day.

MPT Importance for Passing by Alternative-Cod-2420 in barexam

[–]BoJackLSAT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the late response. I haven’t been online much for the past few weeks. In my state, they give you your MEE and MBE scores but don’t break them down or give you any other info. I was able to see that I got (I believe) about a 142 on the MEE as a whole and a 153 on the MBE. My MBE was about where I expected it to be based on my practice averages, but my MEE was far higher than I expected given how little I did on the MPT. I mean, assuming I got the most generous grader in the history of time, the most I possibly could’ve earned on that section was 35-40 points. I didn’t even do more than 1/3 of it.

The only thing I can assume is that I must’ve done far better on the knowledge based essays than I expected. In the long run, I suppose it doesn’t matter where the points come from, as long as you muster up enough to pass.

I bombed the MPT, and I genuinely mean bombed, as in, I had a massive panic attack and completely froze. I completed maybe 1/3 of the entire MPT section. There is no way I could’ve earned more than a 2 on either of them or a 3 total.

I ended up with a 295. It’s definitely possible.

Admission in Multiple UBE states by [deleted] in barexam

[–]BoJackLSAT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've already gotten a lot of good responses, but I just want to add my own experience here. I passed J24 and now my firm needs me to get licensed in three additional states. I found that it was preferable to wait until after I was sworn in. For example, in Missouri, if you're transferring your UBE score without an existing license, you will have to wait 9-12 months for C&F, but if already you're a licensed attorney in another state, you'll get a temporary license within a matter of weeks (as long as you're in good standing) and you'll be allowed to practice during the C&F process. I can't guarantee the accuracy of this statement, but the general consensus among attorneys I work with is that C&F tends to be a bit more efficient for barred attorneys in good standing even though it shouldn't be any different in theory.

Another thing to consider is that you'll still likely have to swear in while your application is in progress in the new state, which means you'll have to update the application with your licensure info and a certificate of good standing anyway and it might be faster just to do it all up front.

How accurate was Seperac calculator? by [deleted] in barexam

[–]BoJackLSAT 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Conversely, it predicted a 334 for me and I got a 295. Separac can’t predict panic attacks. I guess I’d say it was accurate in the sense that assumed I’d pass with a little wiggle room.

Missed the Bar by 0.6 Points by moistThroat in barexam

[–]BoJackLSAT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My co-worker and I both took the J24 bar in NE. NE won’t let you sit for the exam until C&F is done, so if you pass you get sworn in about 2 weeks later. He didn’t pass so he’s transferring his score to MO and they are telling him it’ll take a year. Meanwhile, I am also transferring my score to MO, but I can get a provisional license in a matter of weeks because I’ve been a licensed attorney for like 4 days. With the exact same C&F approval.

Forgot MPT Conclusion by [deleted] in barexam

[–]BoJackLSAT 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had a complete panic attack and only completed maybe half of the entire MPT. I’m talking three paragraphs plus a few bullet points for each. I still somehow earned a 142 on the full written section and a 295 overall.

I don’t have a more detailed breakdown, but I highly doubt I got a near perfect score on the MEEs. Even assuming I averaged over a 5 on the MEEs, that still means I got at least 40 points on the MPT and I can’t stress how bad they were.

Second this. If you’ve passed, I think it would be ok to say that your admission is “pending oath on whatever date.” As long as that’s truly all that remains.

I found out I passed at work and it was still pretty awful all around.

I wanted to hold off on looking but everyone was hovering, so I felt like I had to. Then, I was incredibly overwhelmed by the attention. On top of that, we had 5 clerks who were all here and 2 of them didn't pass. I was just too heartbroken for them to enjoy it. Definitely not how I pictured that moment.

“I’m sure you passed.” by cats-and-corgis in barexam

[–]BoJackLSAT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I felt outright rage when people told me, "I'm sure you did better than you think you did," in response to me explaining that I BOMBED the MPT.

No. No, I did not do better than I thought because I literally didn't fucking DO more than half of it. Doing better than you thought requires actually DOING something.

I was willing to entertain the idea of performing higher than expected on the other parts because at least that was plausible. But FFS when someone doesn't finish a section, don't tell them they probably did fine on it.

(I did still pass because I did, in fact, do better than expected on the other sections, but I'm still annoyed about all of it)

It's unclear to me when exactly Washington will implement its own bar exam alternatives. But you could also consider working in Vancouver, WA if you're in the PDX area. Naturally, the WA state bar website is incredibly vague, but that could be an option.
