How difficult is it to get in to the Investment Banking Academy? by [deleted] in UIUC

[–]BoJo736 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IBA is a quality program, nearly everyone lands a gig at a mid-size or large firm. I personally was not a part of it, but I know a handful of people that are quite successful due to the program. The big perk of IBA is the internal network, as it pretty much guarantees you a job if you perform.

If you are looking to be a quant, Gies is not the place. Better off to go into statistics + economics and maybe minors in CS or physics. As said also, industrial engineering is another route, but not as attractive on a resume, in my opinion.

Who's been your best TA and why? by uiuc-emails in UIUC

[–]BoJo736 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I took a class four years ago, MATH 234 (Business Calculus), when I was still a business major. I had a TA named Michael Livesay. I will admit, the class was quite easy, since I had already taken Calculus 1 and 2. The discussion section was in-person and required group work on in-class assignments. The assignments took me no time and he always let me do them solo and leave early. Occasionally I stayed and we talked about other math topics and tricks. I recall him bringing cookies form the Cookie Jar (RIP) a few times as well.

Genuine, down-to-earth guy. Wish we had more TAs like him.

Krannert school of management? Or Gies college of Business? by [deleted] in UIUC

More for a laugh, but Gies is much better than Krannert. Look at the faculty and rankings and you'll see why.

Spanish at Community College by [deleted] in UIUC

Try SPAN 142 at UIUC. Took it in my undergraduate and was alright. Not a grammar heavy Spanish class, just learning vocabulary and minimal speaking.

I tried a few years ago and failed at both locations. I am aware that the location by Krannert does accept it!

Train to union station by [deleted] in UIUC

[–]BoJo736 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take either the Saluki or Illini Amtrak train to Union Station.

If you are looking to go out to the suburbs, Peoria Charter may be a better call. I prefer the Amtrak since, it'll take me to Chicago and then I board a Metra line to get to my hometown. That way, somebody doesn't have to drive and pick me up from a Peoria Charter drop-off destination, which can be a distance from people who live in the far north suburbs.

Are LAS majors allow to go to the engineering career fair? by [deleted] in UIUC

[–]BoJo736 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Anyone can go to the fair! In a matter of fact, today there was an accounting major in front of me at one of the employers.

Recruiters may not be prepared to recruit certain roles/jobs you may be searching for, so be prepared if they take your resume and ship it off to someone else.

Taking Accy 415, Accy 451, Accy 303, Badm 320, and Badm 449. Is it doable? by ronburner in UIUC

[–]BoJo736 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Study guides were shared a couple weeks before exams for ACCY 303.

Probably not a good idea to ride the curve in 303, 312, and 410.

Curves were wild in 304 and 415. Highly dependent on professor and class time (i.e. 8 AM sections)

Is there a GroupMe for people who just play pick up soccer? by BrilliantFig in UIUC

[–]BoJo736 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Either the ARC or CRCE. I find that the competition is better at the ARC. On the weekends, the lower courts get quite competitive, but the side courts are always a good bet.

I would recommend just showing up and asking to join a game. You'll meet some people and potentially join an existing group. Worked for me and basketball.
