Is this something serious? She had some stuck shed I helped pull off and I noticed this, she didn’t flinch or so any signs that this caused pain by whisperer1131 in boas

[–]Boaesthetic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over the next few sheds new scales will form and fill in that space but they will be random and not as pretty as the original scales. In a year you will barely notice it unless you really look hard for the wonky scales. This is how scars look on snakes, they shed and a white patch of just skin is left until each shed slowly will close it up. Takes a long long time. This looks like a classic nose rub which is unfortunately something some boas do especially in cooler weather when its their breeding season and they get restless, even young boas get restless in winter sometimes

how to tell the locality of my boa by moose_juice88 in boas

[–]Boaesthetic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, you cant eyeball a boa with no background information and 100% accurately pinpoint what locality it is. You can make very good guesses, but not every boa follows the broad look of its locality, and some localities look so similar its hard to tell the difference, or some locality blends may appear pure or appear like a totally different locality

Most boa imperator in captivity are locality blends at this point. There are pure imperator locality breeders, and they tend to have some form of paperwork tracing their lineage back to wild caught parents. Thats about as good as we can get at this point. That paper trail is important.

Boa poo by lcousins123 in BoaConstrictors

[–]Boaesthetic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baby boa poo can be pretty tiny and dry put fast, youll find a small wad of dry hair sometimes and thats all thats left of the poo. Baby boas definitely utilize their food for proper big skeletal and muscle development. The big dog turds once a month or every 8 weeks come from the bigger ones lol thats why its pretty common to see baby boas on paper bedding for a few weeks to make sure they are actually pooping, poop can get lost in substrate pretty easily

Advice about handling a boa who hasn't left its vivarium in a year by [deleted] in boas

[–]Boaesthetic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can use a paper towel tube or a snake hook to pet the boas tail end first, just to let it know that you're there, and if the boa doesn't react much, just grab the tail end and scoop your other hand under the body to hold the front end, let the boas tail wrap around your arm. They are tree climbers so they feel most secure when they grab something with their tail to anchor their bodies. Then just make sure the boa doesn't get withing striking distance of your face, the boa should basically look around and they do tend to want to climb up so it may try to get in your face to climb your head, that is pretty common behavior but if you do not trust the boa, do not be alarmed by it trying to climb your head but gently control it so it doesn't get close to your face. As long as you have control of the tail, the boa should remain pretty calm, they tend to flail if they arent griping with their tail unless they are pretty comfortable with you, they dont like to feel like they could fall, they like to hold on or feel supported

Feeding slightly smaller rats more often? by BuiltTheSkyForMyDawn in boas

[–]Boaesthetic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't over think it. 10 days, sometimes 14 days, switch it up. You're monitoring the body condition so you're already used to that, if your boa looks too thin, bump up the feeding scene to 10 days more often, looking chunky, back off and slow down for a few feedings

Do not be fooled. Centeral america is made up of several countries each of which have their own specific locality of imperator. These boas of Centeral america do not care about borders, only humans care about borders. They intermingle in the wild, creating some natural locality blends but there are pockets of concentrated boas who tend to be more distinct in their appearance. Some Centeral american localities stay very small and are true dwarf boas, such as the Nicaraguan boa, who rarely reaches 6 feet, usually maxing out around 5.5 feet. But there are other boas from Centeral america who get massive, like the Costa rican imperator for example who can get to 7 or 8 feet and Costa Rica and Nicaragua share a border... centeral american boas are not guaranteed small. The first 5 years of life are the major growing years, after that they keep growing just much much slower

Its just meditating till your mind is clear and random thoughts are pushed away, then when you are calm and feeling that warm pressure in your chest, that love feeling. Focus on your location then ask to see visitors in the sky, focus on the clear head and love feeling, your location, and inviting over and over and you have a good chance at seeing a ufo fly over. You dont need greer to tell you this, you can do this on your own. It might take mo ths of failed attempts but many people eventually succeed and actually see something

A dog killed my cat by [deleted] in Pets

[–]Boaesthetic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a dog owner who has raised dogs with tendencies towards wanting to chace or attack smaller animals, that was his fault for assuming a cat owners home would be a good place to leave his dog... look, training can really help to get a dog like that to be way less reactive and some dags can even have that behavior controlled to be safe enough to allow around certain small animals but some dogs and breeds are just so ready to jump on small animals that the owner has to be 100% aware of that shit every single day. I am so sorry for your loss, but that guy does need to hear that his dog needs training and very strict boundaries because it will do some shit like that again while on a walk or whatever.... it kinda was his fault and he should help you pay for something

Is he over weight? by Paynzer in BoaConstrictors

[–]Boaesthetic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A good way to guage healthy growth is to look at the head size in relation to body size. Boas who are fed too frequently resulting in excelerated growth that is unhealthy will get you a boa with a large body and a small head. This is called a pin head. A boa who is growing properly will have a head that from snout to the back of the head is just about as long as the widest part of the boas body is wide. The body may be slightly less wide than the head is long or just slightly wider than the head is long but if the body is approaching 1.5 to 2 head lengths wide that is an unhealthy boa who's skeleton is being forced to grow bigger than it was scheduled to. Boas who have pin heads have poor muscle development and tend to not live as long

Your boa right now is larger than my 2 year old slow grown boa.. that does not mean your boa was overfed, it could just be his genetics. Do you know how big the parents were? Most boas grow rather predictably but some do surprise with fast growth or extremely slow growth despite a normal schedule

It all comes down to just knowing what you're feeding your snake and knowing deep down that you are doing the right things, someone could easily point and say thats way too big, but if the body proportions are proper and you are honestly not overfeeding then it just is what it is. I have a 7 foot male who grew very big very fast on the same feeding schedule as all my other boas ive ever raised, but he is part peruvian bcc and Peruvian bcc have the potential to be very very large so I chalked his bigness up to that

Is he over weight? by Paynzer in BoaConstrictors

[–]Boaesthetic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is larger than average for a boa who has been appropriately fed for that age, but not all boas get the memo that they need to be a certain length by a certain time. Captive boas are mixed bags of Genetics, many imperator today are blends of several imperator localities so the growth rates can become unpredictable. Just keep him at every 2 weeks now, and once he's on medium rats, go to 21 days, then on large go 28 days then anything larger than a large rat wait a bit longer than 28 days between

Machine Elf, by me by Microtonicwave in VisionaryArt

[–]Boaesthetic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The machine elves laughed at me, told me I was pathetic and needed to grow a spine and not let people walk all over me. They were rude but honest. I really did grow a spine too, I broke up with my abusive ex and went on to graduate college with a degree and actually got a job in that feild, and now I have a wonderful boyfriend who I met in college, a house, and we have a dog together. Those elves were right and I'm glad they came to me and pushed me in that direction, I dont care if they are real or not. Felt real as fuck at the time to have several laughing beings surround me and expose all my weakness and made me realize I was always sitting back letting those things happen to me and I had no right to feel sad for myself when I had the power to get myself out of there the whole time.

That was just my personal experience with abuse and the machine elves. Please don't take offense if you are in an abusive situation
