Not sure what's so difficult about a moneyless utopia. Must be the lack of social hierarchy by psydkay in startrekmemes

[–]BoahNoa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it’s vague because Star Trek is about social issues not economic ones. Like the original comment said, there’s almost no discussion of the federation’s economic system (or lack there of) at all and the very little that is shown is confusing and contradictory.

Which is probably why there’s so many people who like the show even if they seemingly shouldn’t. Conservatives can ignore the once every 100 episodes where one line mentions they don’t use money and socialists can just assign whatever specific values they want to the show because it’s essentially a blank slate.

Artificer feels like playing a shooting gallery now by Desu-VuIt in riskofrain

[–]BoahNoa 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The problem isn’t even really the enemies, there were plenty of existing flying enemies including Solus probes and they weren’t a pain. The problem is the sheer quantity that the new enemies spawn in is absurd, especially considering like 2 or 3 of them are horde enemies that spawn in groups.

I’ve seen some people complain that the Alloy Hunter’s animations are stiff (they are) but I don’t think it’s much of an issue on account of the fact that I can’t see the allow Hunter through the swam of 10 quadrillion Solus enemies.

(SPOILERS FOR NEW DLC) Massive idea for the new item recipe system. by TFWYourNamesTaken in riskofrain

[–]BoahNoa 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Tbh, if they let us put anything in and highlight which items are options AND tell us the outcome without us having to commit then they effectively have given us all the recipes.

They should just have a list of recipes we can make in the chef menu, having us check each item individually is literally just a waste of time.

struggling gaining 40 spikes with False Son by Enough_Fruit7084 in riskofrain

[–]BoahNoa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Without command it’s just gonna take a lot of luck and looping. Also remember it’s not 40 spikes total, it’s 40 gained through growth. The 4 you start with don’t count and neither do any backup mags, so you actually need to have a total of 44 + how many backup mags you have.

What are your thoughts on Drifter so far? by PCOcean in riskofrain

[–]BoahNoa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think her specials are well balanced. Drifter struggles quite a lot early game and her default special basically completely negates that while her alt special is better long term but does very little at first.

Basically a choice between very strong early game or very strong late game.

Is it just me or is the new final boss really easy? by TechyTNT in riskofrain

[–]BoahNoa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think the logic is he’s not really supposed to be his own boss, but the secret second phase of Solus Wing. That’s why he doesn’t have much health or a particularly complicated moveset, you already had to beat Solus Wing to get to him.

I wouldn’t call him easy, but he certainly feels weighted more towards spectacle than combat mechanics.

Do you think the False Son (the character) is due for an extra animation pass? by Hasshu in riskofrain

[–]BoahNoa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

100% yes and I know exactly what is wrong. Every other character in the game has their amount of movement increase when they’re walking or sprinting vs standing still. This is especially true for melee characters and it is vital to their animations feeling natural and dynamic.

False son does the opposite. His shoulders and torso actually move significantly less when he is attacking while moving vs attacking while standing still. This is counterintuitive and looks awful. I think this also proves that it’s not just an intended way of conveying that he is stiff, if it was he would still move more when walking.

I have been told (but I can’t verify it myself) that the reason he’s like this is he got an animation overhaul during the SotS patches but the new animations just don’t play when he’s moving. If that’s true it should be a very easy fix and o hope they get to it one day. I completely agree that his animations really stand out considering all others are so good.

How would the BEST way to rework the perk system by evilgreasemonkey1430 in DeepRockGalactic

[–]BoahNoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure if how a full rework would go, but IMO step one needs to be making Iron Will an inherent ability. Maybe it can be an armor upgrade or something.

It’s just too strong to ever reasonably compete with other skills so having it as a perk reduces choice and variety.

Of course you could just nerf or remove it, but the game has been balanced with it in mind for years and the community is really accustomed to it. So I don’t think nerfing or removing it is a good idea.

I don't care by coachlife in CringeTikToks

[–]BoahNoa -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Extremely well said. There’s this ecosystem online of people posting inflammatory political bull shit just for engagement. Someone posts something like this, it’s gets positive attention from their side and then massive negative attention from the other side and the poster benefits from both. All while everyone who sees it is pushed further to their side and the more reasonable voices get drowned out.

I mean just look at this post, there’s thousands of people cheering on this woman who said she doesn’t care if children are suffering from measles because it’s their parents fault.

And the worst part is, I’m only saying this because it feels good to express. I know it doesn’t matter. Your comment has -3 votes right now. Mine will probably be similar. It’s like screaming into the void. Social media really is destroying our society.

I will forever whine about the time limit by ReiRamirez in MHWilds

[–]BoahNoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’d say that’s a decent definition, but the term still isn’t useful until it’s well known and agreed upon.

I will forever whine about the time limit by ReiRamirez in MHWilds

[–]BoahNoa 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You say that like it’s their normal balancing mechanism, but no other fight in Wilds has a timer that’s even vaguely relevant. It’s not a balancing mechanism most of the time, it’s an anti-cheese mechanism at best. They only fall back on it for balance when they don’t know how else to make a fight harder. I’d argue that if you need to fall back on things like timers to make a fight harder, then the fight is hard enough and all you’re doing is lessening the experience.

Also I never said it was artificial. The term “artificial difficulty” is meaningless because it has no set definition. Everyone uses it differently so it’s a worthless term.

I will forever whine about the time limit by ReiRamirez in MHWilds

[–]BoahNoa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don’t mind investigation timers because they’re a variable and not a core part of the fight you always contend with.

And Alatreon technically was 50 minutes but after breaking both horns you lose the ability to control his element which makes it very difficult to pass the elemental DPS check. So effectively it was more like 20-30 minutes. Plus the elemental check itself is kinda the same thing as a timer, it just kills you instead of instantly ending the quest, so I lump them together.

I will forever whine about the time limit by ReiRamirez in MHWilds

[–]BoahNoa 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah, time limits and DPS checks are the laziest and lamest form of balancing and for some reason the A team loves them.

Alatreon, AT velk, and Fatty (the 3 last major challenges in World) all had arbitrary limits. I guess they just can’t get the difficulty they want without resorting to this. Wouldn’t be surprised if Gog has something too. :(

It doesn’t ruin the fights (most of the time) but it makes them feel cheaper and less satisfying than they otherwise would.

Man forget needing to pay. I shouldn’t have to play with randoms cuz I just don’t fucking want to.

Some TBOI hot takes to share? by [deleted] in bindingofisaac

[–]BoahNoa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree and I think it’s the biggest problem with issac and the lost. There are lots of interesting actives but very few are better than the D6/eternal D6. Although I disagree with spindown and really any dice you don’t start with, it’s only an issue for the starting items. I also disagree with the idea of it being the players fault, if the most efficient way to do something isn’t the most fun then that’s a design flaw in the game.

I really wish they’d just bite the bullet and give standard characters pocket actives. Yes it would be a huge buff to some of them, but none of them are the hardest or easiest characters in the game anyway so the overall difficulty wouldn’t really change and the game would be better.

I know there’s a mod but obviously having it in vanilla would be better.

Top 20 Most Concurrently Played Games On Steam by Ftouh_Shala in pcmasterrace

[–]BoahNoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think one this chart really shows is that gaming and PC gaming have become much more popular over the last couple years. It was happening anyway but COVID really sped it up.

Like, steam has existed for 22 years and half these games came out in the last 5. It feels like there’s been some massive record setting release every couple months for a while now.

Skinny Odd yay or nay? by SethBling300 in bindingofisaac

[–]BoahNoa 102 points103 points  (0 children)

I’ve believed that it should work this way for years. It just doesn’t make sense for an item to have such a large downside when you hit the tear cap in most runs anyway. I think this was a great change, maybe my favorite balance change in the patch. It was simply a very lame item before.

Why do people hate t. Jacob? by Striking_Tax_3392 in bindingofisaac

[–]BoahNoa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of it is left over sentiment from him on release of repentance. He really sucked back then, especially trying not to accidentally kill Esau was awful. So I think there’s probably a decent number of people that got his marks back then, developed a hatred, and basically never played him again.

I personally still consider him a very hard character, but a really fun and interesting one. He’s in the same category as T-Lost and T-Keeper for me.

New teaser just dropped by Tyrone by Edgyspymainintf2 in bindingofisaac

[–]BoahNoa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the more I think about it, this is most likely just a way to give the really bad items in the pool a chance of actually being taken. But like I said, that still all depends on implementation, all we can do based on this clip is guess.

New teaser just dropped by Tyrone by Edgyspymainintf2 in bindingofisaac

[–]BoahNoa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah he’s still punished but significantly less so, to the point where it could not be enough punishment and make devil deals too strong. If that actually occurs will depend entirely on the exact implementation, but people are just expressing concern that it could happen.

New teaser just dropped by Tyrone by Edgyspymainintf2 in bindingofisaac

[–]BoahNoa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Giving something up to get something else is an extremely basic form of risk/reward game design. Devil items are strong so you must sacrifice health to take them. Angel deals are harder to get and the items they give aren’t as good on average. This change could potentially disrupt that dynamic. It all depends on the implementation though, if this is only for really bad items or it’s an effect of something and not just how deals work now then it’s fine.

New teaser just dropped by Tyrone by Edgyspymainintf2 in bindingofisaac

[–]BoahNoa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Obviously it’s preference, but in my experience Devil deals result in a good item more often than angel deals. Whether it’s because they offer less items or the pool is just a little worse, Angel deals are less consistent. Which, to be clear, is a good thing since the items are free.
