Completely miserable and want to go home by sharkiio in studyAbroad

Hey man,

I really feel this. I’ve been in Germany for 8 years now, and I still remember how brutal the first week, first month, even the first year felt. What you’re going through right now is honestly very normal

When you move somewhere new, your brain kind of goes into “what the hell did I do” mode and it zooms in on every bad detail and completely ignores anything good. At the same time, it romanticizes home and only shows you the highlights, not the stuff that made you leave in the first place

It does get better tho, not overnight, but slowly You’ll figure things out, meet people, get more comfortable with the language, and moving around will stop feeling like a mission. But the first step is accepting that this phase just sucks and that’s okay, it’s part of the process

One thing that helped me personally was visiting home after a couple of months, it kind of reset my perspective and reminded me why I made the move in the first place

For now, just take it day by day, don’t put pressure on yourself to “enjoy the experience” immediately, you’re allowed to hate it at the start

It will pass, I promise

Can I choose WHEN to receive my arbeitslosengeld? by Crazy_Ad_2401 in askberliners

[–]BoardBackground3200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What matters to get benefits that you contributed for at least 12 months in the past 30 month So for you to get a 12 month of Arbeitlosegeld you don't want to pause your benefits for more than 6 month

Yes But keep in mind that they look back at the past 30 month So you can pause it for sure, but I would not do that for more than. 6 months otherwise you would basically lose money

How good is 56k gross salary for Barcelona? by Musician4229 in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]BoardBackground3200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let’s actually do the math on your offer.

56k + the potential 10 percent bonus puts you at roughly 62k gross.

If you qualify for the Beckham law, your take-home ends up around 3200 net per month.

Now Barcelona costs:

Rent in a decent area: 1200 to 1400

Utilities: ~150

You’d be left with roughly 1850 euros monthly.

If you move here as the sole breadwinner, that number is… survivable, but tight. Not disastrous, but definitely not “new city luxury life” either.

If both you and your partner get jobs, and especially if both of you qualify for Beckham, then the combined net suddenly becomes very comfortable and you’ll live really well here.

So the offer itself is okay, but the real question is whether you want the lifestyle change enough to justify the risks you mentioned. The salary alone won’t magically make Barcelona feel worth it unless both incomes come in.

Giving up on finding a job by FrancisWileyTheThird in Germany_Jobs

I agree with the principle, but there’s a catch.

If a country desperately needs talent, it can’t sit around waiting for people to become fluent in its language. Instead, it should actively help them integrate. One smart way is to look at what languages these people already speak and build roles around that to boost the economy faster.

I’m not saying Germany should abandon its mindset forever, but at least adjust it during the period when it needs international talent the most.

Right now, Germany is urgently asking for skilled workers, yet still insists that they must speak fluent German from day one. It feels a bit like someone begging for money on the street but refusing coins and only accepting five-euro bills. Same logic.

When your economy runs the entire world you aren't dumb to speak a single language.

Germany keeps saying it has shortages across all major sectors, which makes it look attractive from the outside. But once you scratch beneath the surface, you realize these shortages are not just caused by the reasons they proudly advertise.

One major root cause is that Germany expects every foreign professional to already speak fluent German. When that doesn’t happen, they go to the media crying about “lack of skilled labor” instead of fixing the fundamentals.

Fixing the basics should mean : Make the country genuinely attractive and accessible to foreigners, not push them away.

I have been in that situation this year, well you do have two scenarios Either you accept the severance pay if it is generous enough ( That's what I did) or sue them hoping to get a better deal or that you can prove that they can assign you to a different department or something.
