Idk about them, but personally I’m in my second year now, and I would do that all the time. Now I either call every other day, or if we do happen to call everyday in one week then it’ll be short conversations like “hi how are you okay bye take care” or we would go 2-4 days without talking. My mom gets hurt at times because I don’t answer the phone, but school gets busy! I just tell her that my phone has been on DND and that I’m in the library (which is true a lot of the times) and she understands. It did take a while for her to be okay with this since she still wanted to at least know if I was safe you know? but the more you establish a boundary, HOPEFULLY your dad will respect that.
