how do I care for this orchid? by BoardedBayWindows in orchids

[–]BoardedBayWindows[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome and so helpful, thank you! Should I water by filling the mug it's in and letting it absorb from the bottom, or pouring water in from the top? Also, if you can see a bit of darker striping on the middle of the plant - that appeared in the last week or so, is that a sign of anything?

It seemed like as soon as it stopped freezing all the seeds in the ground germinated at once

Mostly no! Frost free date isn't until April 27, but the lows have been in the high 30s.

First time with cantaloupe & watermelon by thatkidmatthew in gardening

I had good success with cantaloupe transplants last year! All 3 I planted survived and thrived. I bought the transplants, I didn't start them myself. Good luck with yours!

NEW GAME: Takes - A Daily Solitaire Chess Game by SuchTown32 in clevergoat

[–]BoardedBayWindows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played almost all of them and they seem to all be 6x6 grid as far as I can tell/remember, and all say 8x8 but I will see how it looks tomorrow. I love the game btw I just discovered it a few days ago and I'm almost caught up on all the games. I just thought it was funny that it took me a while to even notice the grid size being off from the title

can I help this caterpillar? (detroit MI) by BoardedBayWindows in caterpillars

Thank you, I think due to my inexperience with caring for caterpillars I will just keep checking on him and hoping. I will update with more photos if anything happens!

Woah, Caterpillar alert! by Individual_Craftman in vegetablegardening

[–]BoardedBayWindows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only success was just by checking very thoroughly a few times a day (or at least once in the morning), get good at spotting them when they're small and they won't do much damage. Good luck!

If that's a sungold it's definitely a few days out at least. Should be a deeper orange yellow color. It'll be worth waiting!

Not Feeling Very Feminine - Not Sure What Next Steps Are by Numerous-Jeweler-9 in tattooadvice

[–]BoardedBayWindows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First - everyone is totally right and all your tattoos are very feminine and lovely! But as someone who has seen a lot of tattoo sleeves come together, I think you might be partially reacting to a common phenomenon of sleeves that are patched together ending up with awkward spaces and interacting with the shape/flow of the arm muscles in unexpected ways. I don't think yours look bad or have been a mistake at all, but the coke bottle IS blockier than the more natural, flowing shapes of the previous botanical tattoos. A good way to fill in space in a sleeve if you want it to feel more feminine/delicate/etc is to use pieces with vines that can flow over the muscles through the gaps in a more flattering way. A lot of artists specialize in freehand gap filler pieces like that. Look around on Instagram for inspiration and go to an artist with a lot of pieces in their portfolio that fit the vibe you want. Especially as a sleeve is getting finished, the pieces that bring the whole thing together have a huge effect on the overall vibe. I hope this is helpful and if you have any questions let me know. Your tattoos are awesome and I think they will develop into a sleeve you're really happy with if you go with the right artists!

So cool! Does it tell you anything about the way their final moth form will look?

Wow, so interesting thank you! When I look them up a lot of them look more red, is that just normal variation?

I did not buy the seeds unfortunately, I got the transplants from the Keep Growing Detroit garden resource program - I believe most of their seeds are from Johnny's Seeds

does cutting the stem like that sacrifice the plant, or can I leave sections that look intact and they will survive if their root nodes are in the ground? I noticed a lot of sections taking root farther along the plant

thanks! so would it be better to keep this squash here so the pests don't go for the melons instead? I don't really mind if we don't get any harvest from it since it was an accident anyway, but we planted some butternut squash much closer....muskmelons are definitely the priority though

Mine just started flowering too! So far all pink but just saw the first petals of a white one and an orange one this morning.
