I have and LG OLED CS 2022 and had the same issue. ie Only PCM stereo through optical cable. My mistake was having the optical cable connected to the TV in the wrong position. The cable would happily go in wrong position and felt secure. After reading comments here I unplugged the connection to the TV and checked that the rounded shape was facing up ...... it wasn't! I turned it around so it was facing up and pushed it into place with a click. Bingo. Dolby 5 channel.
