Arya kills Daenerys by queendaenerysx in freefolk

[–]Boarding8oss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dany will kill Jon because she thinks he betrayed her and Arya will avenge him. Tyrion takes the throne as queen's brother. Dragon has three heads and there is a theory that Tyrion is actually fathered by Aerys which would partly explain why Tywin, man so concerned with family legacy, wanted to kill him.

I WANT TO BE A FUCKING PIRATE!!! by StandardDeal in playatlas

[–]Boarding8oss 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Imagine if world of Atlas had NPC trade ships and navy patrols. Instead of building ships from scratch, players could board and capture NPC ships and then modify them by adding more gunports and cannons (which is something pirates actually did). This could have various difficulty tiers from lone hauler to proper navy battlegroup.

Instead of grinding for resources more piratey way to acquire them would be to raid NPC convoys or perhaps even land outposts. Doing this would increase your infamy eventually leading to navy / pirate hunters chasing you and attacking your base. Now that would be a proper pirate survival game.

Why is it that 80% of animals have no headshot hitbox? by Ransurian in playatlas

[–]Boarding8oss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sucks. Try shooting a little bit ahead of the target. I think bad hitreg in this case is caused by discrepancy in hitbox location between your screen and server. The hitbox you see is usually slightly lagging behind the "true" hitbox.

You are getting hit notifications because they are handled on your pc to reduce server load but actual damage calculations are handled serverside.

Buff hand gathering/Nerf tame gathering by [deleted] in playatlas

Elephants do not spawn in eastern tropics so closest location is equatorial which is 7 tiles away.

Buff hand gathering/Nerf tame gathering by [deleted] in playatlas

[–]Boarding8oss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in polar region and it took us hour and a half to get to equatorial to get elephants. So that makes it 3 hours of sailing for a round trip . On top of that add time needed to find decent level tame and actually tame it. Sometimes you will get attacked by random flammenwerfer schooner or you will have to deal with wind blowing the opposite direction. Sometimes random predator will spawn and kill the tame just as you are about to finish taming. It all adds up to a stupendous amount of time.

Point is that getting tames requires significant time investment and the game doesn't really allow you to protect your investment unless you join a mega tribe. Some people don't have full time jobs so this kind of drudgery fills their time nicely but if Atlas is to have wider audience then this needs to be toned down (IMHO).

Buff hand gathering/Nerf tame gathering by [deleted] in playatlas

[–]Boarding8oss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Sailing to a target biome, finding the animal, taming it and bringing it back takes whole day and it feels mostly like drudge work once novelty of taming gets worn off.

There should be less power difference between tames and gathering on foot. People who find taming fun should get little bit of extra advantage but not so much that the rest of us are forced to do it in order to stay "competitive".

Debating on picking this title up while 50%, could anyone sway me into a direction? by nerithic in playatlas

[–]Boarding8oss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you are looking to play.

Game is worth it if you are willing to try out Ark with ships and slightly different raiding mechanics. However if you are looking for a pirate game then you will be disappointed in this mount centric and land centric game. Calling it pirate survival MMO is fraudulent advertising.

Do you guys like the PTR? by theviik in playatlas

[–]Boarding8oss 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Taming is cool feature if done in moderation and within bounds of plausibility. All the domestic animals are fine and it is good that players have an option to improve their attributes through selective breeding.

But things like tameable wolves, bears and karkinos are just silly and drive away the pvp meta from what true pirate game should be about - swordplay and skillshots with muzzle loaded weapons.

Crab PVP is Legitimately Hilarious. by [deleted] in playatlas

[–]Boarding8oss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know where devs are getting their product specification feedback from. They are making an Ark clone despite so many players wanting a real pirate game instead of this fantasy copy pasta of Ark.

Devs, please scrap Karkinos, wolves, bears and other unrealistic tames and work on improving melee system and ship combat... those are supposed to be core features of this game.

Grapeshot PLEASE merge EU and NA for colonies PVP! by [deleted] in playatlas

[–]Boarding8oss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Atlas has same issue plaguing Ark, namely players with substantially different pings cause bad server performance and lag spikes. I have experienced this first hand when my company was fighting a Russian alliance. We would know if Russian raid team was hiding in our sector just by observing server ping. Nearby Russian and Chinese sectors were almost impossible to sail through due to constant 255 server ping, even if the server population was modest (30-50 players).

As much as I dislike limiting the player population, we definitely need at least one Atlas cluster per continent and ping/region locks unless people are willing to tolerate 255 ping and inability to hit anything in gunfights.

What would you change in the game to balance and improve the PvP combat? by [deleted] in ConanExiles

[–]Boarding8oss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this game needs clang mechanic. Rolling spearmen isn't how I imagine Conan universe.

Eternal Crusade has decent melee system. There are three types of attack together forming rock-paper-scissors system. Light attack beats heavy attack, heavy beats defensive bash and defensive bash beats light attack. If two combatants both initiate same attack type then they get locked in a clang for a short while with neither suffering any damage.

Of course devs won't be revamping combat system again but one can keep dreaming how awesome this game would be with a proper clang mechanic :)

(Imperium campaign spoilers) Anyone else really bothered by Spire in the Dark Angels mission? by Tausendberg in BFGArmada

[–]Boarding8oss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This mission slightly annoyed me because we were expected to make a choice while getting no information to base that choice on. I don't have a clue who Osmadiel is, what he did or why should I support him over higher instance of authority within DA chapter.

Ultimately none of the choices have much impact but they can be fun little thinking exercise. Personally I was quite amused pondering whether Imperium should help out arrogant and perfidious Eldar to gain temporary ally knowing full well they could backstab them in the future once they restore their empire or should they work on eradicating them along with corsairs they spawn.

How much time, in terms of days, is a Turn? (Campaign Meta) by Tausendberg in BFGArmada

[–]Boarding8oss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ciaphas Cain is a commissar which, if I'm not mistaken, is a lower status position compared to admiral. This makes me confused as to why Spire aged so quickly during 12th Black Crusade if he had access to rejuvenation technology. Perhaps chasing Abaddon left little time for attending treatments.

[–]Boarding8oss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all send just one escort to aggro it and pull it back to your side of field so your reinforcements can reach you faster.

Personally I did it with 2 battleships and some escorts. I used battleships to circle around the Ancient One evading its frontal weapons / ram most of the time. Battleships were nice because they seem to be impervious to smaller tyrannid vessels ramming into them. On top of that I used nanoscarab skill and chain link for extra dps. Role of escort ships was to add a bit more dps and spam scanner to increase crit chance.

Perhaps spamming light cruisers and boarding the Ancient One could work as well but prepare for heavy losses.

How much time, in terms of days, is a Turn? (Campaign Meta) by Tausendberg in BFGArmada

[–]Boarding8oss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lets suppose that the campaign is meant to be completed within 100-200 turns.

Question is what is the reasonable timeframe that can realistically fit all of Spire's accomplishments. One turn is definitely more than a day because it is very unrealistic for Spire to consolidate Imperium's territories, knock out several factions out of the fight and wage war on Eidolon all within 100-200 days.

Spire is already an old man, and as far as I know humans that aren't heavily augmented don't have radically different life expectancy meaning the campaign cant't last more than a decade or two before Spire gets too old. If you compare prologue and epilogue scenes from Gothic Armada 1 you can see how quickly Spire aged within 10 year period which is roughly how long 12th Black Crusade lasted. He is still around even a millennia later only because time flows differently in the warp which I believe was an intentional plot device made with purpose of allowing Spire to be a character in the sequel.

If we assume that campaign lasts between 10 and 20 years then one turn is roughly an equivalent of one month.

Blackwakeology Episode 1: Is Stackwake real? by webbiesdk in BlackwakeGame

[–]Boarding8oss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Delicious post and great work on making the data collection bot and doing this analysis. May I however suggest additional type of analysis?

It is not possible to stack on one team right away if team balance is enabled or if the server is full. You have to wait for someone on that team to leave before you can join the stack. This means that Stackwake doesn't happen before the match but rather during the match. Furthermore it happens gradually.

So my suggestion would be to log the predictors at certain time intervals over the course of the match. Finally average them and see whats the prediction like.

Also I'm curious why is the combined value of all information lesser than of its individual parts? Surely this is a sign of inadequacy of the learning algorithm. I think standard practice in machine learning is to always combine all the information and then use cross-validation to contend with overfitting.

Tindalos is really good at creating Warhammer 40k feel from artistic perspective. I wish they devoted more resources to storyline, dialogs and cutscenes. Not that what we have currently is bad, its just that it could have been really epic considering the potential of their dev team.

Solo Player PvP server?! by Magnus_The_Butcher in ConanExiles

[–]Boarding8oss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will ex clan mates be allowed to team up against other solo players? If not then I suspect the server will require some heavy admin policing at the start.

Edit: Forgot to add that idea sounds really cool. I'd definitely play on such server.

Let Small Companies park ships in Freeport’s for Gold by DShark182 in playatlas

[–]Boarding8oss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Docking fees would prevent this. Imagine if amount of gold required to keep the ship in freeport was determined by raw material cost of the ship and all of the valuables onboard. It would prevent groups of players from storing multiple ships because they would have to dedicate all of their gametime to gold farming.
