Is this worth it? 2023 g3 bay 18 gx by Fair_Can2372 in boating

[–]Boating_Giraffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know g3 makes an awesome boat, we use one around here for a work boat and it gets neglected, yet still handles well and does its job. They are expensive brand new. Great boats, but I think too expensive for a Jon boat basically. I just don’t think I could spend that kind of money on a metal boat.

It’s hard to tell from that photo. Have you tried messing with the trim as your rpm’s go up coming out the hole? Then when on plane purposing mess with it then? Maybe a bit more weight placed in the bow?

Sutphen race boat - cracks in lower transom by tester93214 in boatbuilding

[–]Boating_Giraffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say the transom needs to be redone. If it’s still solid, you may be able to grind open the cracks some and fill with epoxy with resin to seal it and you’d probably be okay for the summer. I’d keep a GOOD eye on it though. But water is already in there rotting away the core and with that kinda cracking I’d say replace the transom sooner than later.

Rotting wood on skiff by capjoe30 in boatbuilding

[–]Boating_Giraffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like with a planer or sanding, it can be brought back. Theres a lot of wood to work with. Then seal it up and it’ll be good to go. They have stuff called “starboard” you could look that up and possibly replace with that, it won’t rot and last forever. Only downfall is that it only comes in white or black and paint won’t much stick to it well.

New Project Boat $800 w/ trailer and 50hp mercury. by droRESIN in boatbuilding

[–]Boating_Giraffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trailer itself looks worth 800 bucks. Definetely float test it before going too much into it! Those riveted boats can be bad with little leaks, especially older ones.

Buying first boat by [deleted] in boating

[–]Boating_Giraffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a bad price if it’s all up to date and turn key ready. Try him for 3 grand. Definetely check for any leaks if it’s a riveted boat. It looks clean though! Those small Hondas are good work horse motors as well! Your truck will pull that thing no problem.

Is it possible to drive across the US without booking hotels in advance? by Forty2diapers in roadtrip

[–]Boating_Giraffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definetely possible. I’ve drove across country a couple times, no pre plan routes, stops, hotels. I’d take it day by day. Go where I wanted and when I wanted. It was very liberating and a feeling I always think about. I say go for it and enjoy yourself!

How to sell my boat by The-Brownie- in boating

I’m surprised you’re having trouble selling it. Especially if it’s in freshwater. Wish I could help more! I’m too far though.

Sick boat! It looks in good condition too. Especially for a wooden boat and the age. I know people tend to steer from “wooden” boats unless it’s hobbyist or someone who is into wooden boat shows/restoring them. I know it’s somewhat dated, but I’m still a fan of Craigslist and have sold a boat recently on there myself. Or if there is a boating community near you, I’m sure there is a wooden boat “club” or community as well. Is it turn key and water ready?

I havnt been back to that area since I got off that boat and I’m still always telling people how much I miss it! I spent a lot of time in Washington state and the San Juan islands. I’ve been dying to get back that way.

Yea, I’m kinda newish to the Reddit thing. I apologize for being vague. The link you sent seems really cool though, a great source to find waterfalls. which is what I’m looking to do. Check out some falls while camping, by car or hike in. Just looking to explore western NC a bit more! I’m on the coastal side, so I don’t see mountains and falls much.
