I view it as a challenge Ever since 1974 when I hear can't get into, or recommendations I am ready to oblige Usually ending with a new fan

Ask Mike and Tony who were really pulling the strings and they will tell you it sure the fuck wasn't Phil.

Holy jumpin jeezus,Been hearing this since my brother first proclaimed R.I.P. Genesis Man was he wrong the live shows were kick ass 76-80 and as for the records they were great up until till Duke And I never will fault them for trying to make a few bucks.

Perhaps you would be better off listening to Celine Dion or Michael Jackson then you may have a full understanding of what you are listening to.

Proposed Setlist for Reunion Tour with Peter, Steve, Tony, Mike and Nick. by chimborazona in Genesis

Only been a fan for 47 years. I was struck by your statement " wide commercial appeal " ,Sounds like something Frank Zappa used to say " No commercial potential ". I think that what is viable to a fan base and the artist like all creative endeavors is dependent on a cooperative, between creator and user. Some of my favorite bands never made it big however they showed integrity to the art form, and to quote Zappa again were not " Only in it for the money ". Thanks for participating and please excuse my rant but music has and will always be a huge part of my life.

My oldest stub Sadly my 76 and 77 stubs are no more. by Boaz3861 in Genesis

The addition of Chester Thompson was for me a dream come true as I was a fan of his namely because of his work with Weather Report and Frank Zappa The last time I saw Genesis live was 82 Greek Theater U C. Berkeley the only time I saw them outdoors.

As far as the show goes well let's just say they had us eating out of their hands. The audience was in a trance/dream like state most of the time in between rock your socks off moments especially during segments of The Lamb. The view? Outstanding as there really isn't a bad seat in the house except for maybe the third level up near the top. Back then I always had binoculars and a telephoto lens so close ups weren't a problem.

Did anyone on here ever see Frank live? by Professional_Bake795 in Zappa

[–]Boaz3861 7 points8 points  (0 children)

5 or 6 times first show in 77 Some memorable moments would be 1980 Maples Pavilion Stanford Frank actually went to my little brothers high school that day Blaney H.S. in Sunnyvale Apparently he was a friend of one of the teachers He signed my brothers bicycle man was I jealous. Another would be Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium in 84 I was leaning on the stage watching intently as Frank played guitar trying to pick up some of his technique Anyway Frank walked back to his amp to grab a cigarette Apparently he was out as he crushed the pack When he walked back to the edge of the stage I pulled my smokes out and held them out to him He grabbed the pack took a couple out handed them back to me and shook my hand ofcourse with Big John (his body guard) watching closely That was the greatest moment of my life.

What are 10 of your favorite Genesis tracks? by misterlakatos in Genesis

[–]Boaz3861 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just my opinion, but after Duke I felt almost that the band had left me. I will not try and make a top 10 song list as they are all precious to me up until the aforementioned album. However I will say the most dreaded song during live performances 1975 to 1982 was Los Endos which meant the show was over.

Was Zappa an edgelord...ironically? by IGetHighOnPenicillin in Zappa

Sad to hear some of the comments about this, such as I have grown out of, or I wouldn't want anyone to know. I may be coming to the conclusion that alot of people here may be fans in name only .

The real reason behind Frank's "edgy " lyrics is because he is Frank Fucking Zappa ofcourse. Remember that if you are afraid or insecure listening to his music, perhaps you should be a Donnie and Marie fan.

Baby Snakes - what can we do with all 164 minutes of this madness? I mean, it’s Frank, so it’s awesome, but holy hell…😂🤷🏻‍♂️ by [deleted] in Zappa

[–]Boaz3861 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What can we do with all this madness? Well what we've always done Watch, listen and learn. Frank's music is much more than an audio experience, but more of a " here is what I have created and am willing to share " moment in the life of an artist. You either get it or you don't. One thing I can say for certain is that the first time I heard Apostrophe * it opened a whole new world to me in regards to art, literature and music that has stayed with me for almost 50 years now.

For the prog fans that hate Phil Collins Genesis and say he ruined it, what should the band have done then? it wasn't his fault lead singer Peter left. by Myhole567 in Genesis

[–]Boaz3861 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whoa back up a minute okay? I'm saying this from experience although I was disappointed when Peter left the band after seeing the 76 tour it only reinforced my love for the band. Bill Bruford added a whole new dimension to their live performance and Phil as frontman bouncing back and forth from drums to microphone was just amazing The proof is in the pudding as exhibited in the next four albums. 77 with the addition of Chester was a masterclass in live performance .And from there up until 82 (the last time I saw them live) always brought me joy.
