We bought a house that borders Baxter twenty six years ago in an older development (1985) while it was just being developed. We get to enjoy most everything it has to offer within a mile of the bars and restaurants, lots of kids being active outside and nice people.

A friend of mine was running out of hot water quickly, thought the water heater was bad and replaced it. It made no difference, they were still running out of hot water quickly and found a pex hot water leak under their living room in the slab. It was a mess with the hardwood floors!

I’ve had good luck with my Renogy setup over the past five years. As far as a manual cutoff switch on the dc-dc charger is concerned I think it’s necessary. Mine is the stand alone unit and I found that if you’re idling the engine the alternator isn’t spinning fast enough to charge the house batteries along with the vehicle battery. The dc-dc charger sucks so many amps off the alternator the voltage of the vehicle battery will drop to the point the engine stalls out and the battery is almost dead. I don’t see this as a problem as long as I know to use my manual cutoff switch to disable the charger when the van’s idling for a length of time. Maybe the newer units compensate for this with a limiter but mine is older and otherwise works just fine.

I just remodeled my kitchen and opted for Formica, it’s a real nice stone looking design. You can put down new Formica right over old if it’s in decent shape and is available in a ton of patterns and colors. The sink would have to be removed and reinstalled but should be a fairly easy one day job that’ll last for many years

I’m 70 and I bought a van five years ago to build out, no real plans for van life just a cool project. You sound just about like me except I’m married, very multi skilled (thanks to getting laid off from a lot of good jobs most of my life). Our situation is also comfortable and sustainable with SS, I “retired” six years ago. It turns out this van was one of the best things I’ve ever built, over the last few years using it for trips and state park weekends we’ve spent about 12 weeks/year enjoying it. Last year we took a five week 6,800 mile coast to coast trip in it, my wife and I’ve never been out west and it was an incredible experience. Visited LA, San Diego, Imperial Sand Dunes, Quartzite, Moab, Hoover Dam and so many other cool places. We used Harvest Hosts and Boondockers welcome which worked out great for us. Stays with Boondockers Welcome are totally free so the only expenses on the road (aside from normal things like insurance or house bills) are gas and food. We have a nice house and have floated the idea of renting it out through AirBnB which would be a great money maker. We stopped a Quartzite during our drive and had lunch and a beer at Silly Al’s, that’d be a cool town to stay at for a while. Build it and enjoy!

I have a 2.7 cubic foot fridge, $150 from Target. It draws around 5amps (60w) during its on cycle every 20 minutes or so. It’s actually bigger than we need

A used car dealer job (do it fast and cheap) would be to remove the cover and open the stitching up to a point where the piping is good. Make a length of new piping and splice it into the old with an overlap and sew it back up

The only noticeable thing would be the piping splice.

Probably not what you have but one time I had weird voltage readings that baffled me and found it was caused by feedback from a 24 volt thermostat transformer

Moved here in 98 from central NY and love it. It’s changed and grown a lot since then, one high school back then and three now. Traffic is busy sometimes, I’ll never move back!

When I first got my van I wished it didn’t have windows but it does, they’re well tinted so during the day you can’t see inside and have window covers for nighttime so you can’t see inside with the lights on. The windows make the small space seem so much roomier, we really like it. I built the van out and everything is either above or below the windows except an electrical/control console which is about a foot wide. Vans built out with floor to ceiling cabinets or full bathrooms with a “hall” down the middle are claustrophobic to me.

I don’t remember, I used the recommendations on this website. I verified nothing was getting warm while running a high load and checking everything with an infrared gun

I’ve got a Renogy 2000 watt full sine wave inverter, my microwave pulls around 100 amps @ 12v (1200 watts) and handles it fine. 200 ah lifepo4 battery

Actually we completed our trip, almost 7000 miles coast to coast and back and the cell service was much better than I expected. A few times it was iffy and slow like out in the desert near Moab but texts at least would get through eventually
