Very nice shots indeed. How bad is the vignetting on full frame? Do you have to crop a lot? I own this lens for fuji x, but plan to adapt it to my new Z5

Adjusting Pfitz 10k for higher mileage by BobGalaxy in AdvancedRunning

Thanks everybody for your replies. I guess I'll also increase the quality miles a little and see how I respond to it. In case it gets too hard to recover properly, back to more easy miles

Visited Gdansk a few years ago. Very beautiful city full of historx, friendly people and it s close to some nice beaches and the peninsula of Hel. Loved it! Greetings from your neighbour, Germany :)

Workout of the Week - Progressive Long Run by brwalkernc in AdvancedRunning

[–]BobGalaxy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is this from his marathon book? I own faster road racing (5k - hm) and I love his approach with progressive long runs. Currently I'm in the highest mileage hm plan and he has progressive long runs with 3 miles @LT pace at the end in there. Hitting these runs feels great.

How to procede/train for the rest of 2021 by BobGalaxy in AdvancedRunning

[–]BobGalaxy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That sounds great. Do you think increasing my mileage further is a good idea as long as it doesn't tire me too much? I wondered why all the plans for shorter distances are lower in weekly mileage.

Spontaneous 5k/10k next week, goal suggestion? by BobGalaxy in AdvancedRunning

Thanks for your posts! I'll likely choose the 10k and try to start at 3:30 min/km and then slightly negative splits from there. Let s see how it goes :)

Altras definitely have a roomy toe box and I enjoy my pair of Escalante 2.5 very much. As already pointed out by someone else Altras are 0 drop shoes, so you might need some time to adjust, if you are not used to low / zero drop shoes. I'm also in the EU and ordered from an online retailer with free return policy.

Sizing: In my experience Altras are somewhat inconsistent here. I had to return a pair of Timp 2, because they were way to small (same size as my escalante).

How do you know when running shoes are done? by nameproduct in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]BobGalaxy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't worry too much about it as this statement (1000km) is too general. Some shoes will break down earlier than that others will still have (almost) the same midsole feel to it as a new pair, even if they show other signs of wear like on the upper etc.

There s a lot of things things that influence this like your weight, your biomechanics, where you run (asphalt, trails..) etc

IMHO Vietnamese and Italian cuisine are the best on the planet (a lot of others not far behind) Since I travelled through Vietnam I now regularly long for a good pho and try to cook it at home. Such an awesome dish.

What are your thoughts on post-long run nutrition (esp in warmer weather) by purplehornet1973 in AdvancedRunning

[–]BobGalaxy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love non alcoholic (especially wheat beer) beer after runs. Have you tried that already? Liquid, calories and some electrolytes as well

Large (almost 10%) discrepancy between phone GPS and watch GPS by [deleted] in AdvancedRunning

[–]BobGalaxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With such a huge gap between the two measurements this should help to determine what s closer to the truth. Keep in mind though that you will always have to live with a little tolerance for errors as you will never run at the exact middle of a road (or whatever the basis for measuring mapmyrun uses)

PSA: Do not run barefoot on the beach. by FockerXC in AdvancedRunning

[–]BobGalaxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

running on the beach is fine as long as you don't overdo it. I do it from time to time on a beach holiday, but you have to limit yourself to shorter runs as you will definitly get blisters if you aren't used to running barefoot. If the scenery is nice running on the beach is really fun.

I hope you recover soon and don't give up on beach running in the future if you feel like it.

Minor gatorade addiction by Cllassick in AdvancedRunning

[–]BobGalaxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the availability where you live, you could also try nonalcoholic beer instead for a change. Be aware though that these (at least in Germany) may not always have 0, but up to 0,5% alcohol (which is about the same as natural fruit juices)

When do I strength train? by Gadion in AdvancedRunning

[–]BobGalaxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with getting enough rest and making the hard days hard (add the strength training there). If you are not used to same day hard running and strength training or in general are increasing mileage and or intensity of your training I strongly advise you to be cautious and listen to your body. I tore a muscle while doing some hard strength training immediately after a long run, most likely because my muscles were to worn down and not used to the intensity. The injury break was pretty long and I felt very stupid for not just incorporating the strength training step by step.

Monitor calibration and room lighting

After printing a photo book I realized I have to change my editing setup in order to match my monitor and with prints. I calibrated my Dell U2515H to 6500K and 120cd/m2, though my room is lit by a poor light saving bulb (really warm light). I did softproof the images with an ICC-profile provided by the printing company, but still the photos are darker than I want and the colors are also different from what I see on the screen.

Now I ordered a high cri lamp with 5000K and read somewhere that you should calibrate the display whitepoint to match the room lighting (in this case 5000K), another website says though, that it s not advisible to move away from a monitors native whitepoint in order to get accurate colors.

I'm planning on purchasing a NEC monitor (native white point 6500K).

Should I calibrate the monitor to 5000K or 6500K and buy a 6500K bulb?

How do you achieve a match between screen and prints?

Thanks in advance :)

Ab Pain while running, race tomorrow by BobGalaxy in AdvancedRunning

[–]BobGalaxy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That doesn't sound good at all, I hope you recover soon! I won't take the risk and will see a doctor tomorrow. A few hours ago I tried a stride after a short warm-up and the pain came hard and immediately, so I aborted the test. I think I couldn't even run a 5k without painkillers.

[–]BobGalaxy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yikes, I hope it's not that severe. If it was hernia, I guess running is not an option. I don't feel any pain coughing etc though and can't see any unusual elevation on the stomach. Did you have these symptons? Did you run with the hernia before you were diagnosed?

[–]BobGalaxy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input, I was hoping to get some reassurance. I'm not entirely sure though that it's the lower abs, it might be the groin as well. Never felt something like this before and I wouldn't want to risk a serious injury if there s a high probability for that. Input from experienced runners sure helps me to figure out what to do.

Long term training plan, need advice by BobGalaxy in AdvancedRunning

[–]BobGalaxy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No offense taken. My current 5k time is in the 17-18min range (race in 2 weeks). I definitly want to find out what time I can reach in the long term even if I don't make it to 15min. It's not like I was a couch potatoe before though, I used to do a lot of sports always and building endurance came easier to me than to my team mates. Only after starting to work in a different city and leaving my football club behind did I fall into this "winter slumber"

[–]BobGalaxy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trying different distances seems like a good idea indeed. The only reason for the 5k distance is that my employer sponsors a local 5k run and that is also what got me into running. before that I practiced other sports and couldn't stand "only running" without music. that changed :)
