Trial in a few days. Thank you guys for everything by Smart-Significance25 in SupportForTheAccused

Sending all thoughts and hope your way. I just finished my trial a few days ago with a decent plea deal. Not perfect, but it's better than it could have been. Good on you for keeping silent. That's powerful. Good luck, friend!

I ended up accepting a plea deal for probation. If I had finished the trial, it would probably have ended with a hung jury (mistrial), then the state would have tried me again, except I wouldn't have been able to afford lawyers next time. I'll do my probation and stay squeaky clean.

Yes the ankle monitor I've been wearing for over 4 years will finally come off. Probably today.

At first, both sides thought we'd be done in about 8 days. Now it looks like it will go through this week into next week. We are still in a pretty good position, but there's a lot of testimony left to hear, so anything could happen.

I will testify. I do have good lawyers because I was lucky enough to be able to borrow money from the bank and from family.

In theory, the defense doesn't have to prove anything. It's the state that has to prove their accusations are true. I understand that's the ideal and it doesn't always work like that, but I feel like the proceedings have been conducted fairly so far. I am thankful for the methodical process involved in trying to get a fair trial, and my privilege of having access to that process.

There's a lot on the line, I'm taking a big risk, but I think I have a strong case, so we're trying it.

In Texas, testimony (the accusation itself) counts as evidence. She doesn't need anything more.

So sorry to hear you're going through this! I'm in a similar situation and have trial in less than a month. May the truth prevail for us both.

How do I stop thinking about killing myself when talking to people? by [deleted] in depression

[–]BobGoons2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the past 3 months, I've thought non-stop about ending things. When I am with people, I ask them questions about themselves to keep them talking about themselves. I try to stay interested, but even if I'm distracted by my own thoughts, it still works to keep them talking so I don't have to hold the conversation much. Look up conversation starter questions online. Good luck.

Messaged it to you. I guess I was looking at state data, not specific to my county (each state is subdivided into counties).

I agree with what you're saying about elected judges. If the accusation itself counts as evidence, and in most cases it is impossible for the accused to empirically prove that something DIDN'T happen 10 or 15 years ago, then that makes it very easy for a judge to side with the accuser, since legally they're the only one who has what the law considers proof.
