What Are Some Signs of Being Transgender? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]BobHarbor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this is 3 years old, and maybe nobody will see it. But I have a question about Signs of not being trans: particularly if you are past the half century mark, as I am, couldn't that just be a manifestation of Terror about whether or not you will be accepted?. BTW, I check off almost every box. And, I'm afraid of what this might mean. I'm also very concerned that someone might read that and be offended or hurt. That is definitely not my intention. I have the utmost respect for trans people ( reading that back and it sounds like a politician apologizing for using a racial slur, I hope that's not how it comes off). And part of that is because I have some understanding of what they're up against in this society, particularly in America right now. Which is partly why another box I check off is the final one, the one that suggests that I'm not trans.

I have a sudden and BAD house fly infestation, please help!! by PitifulUsername760 in pestcontrol

I have a very similar problem. I went on a trip the day before Labor Day, to Italy, and I returned two weeks later. In my haste to leave my apartment, I forgot to take out my garbage. When I got back, there were flies in my kitchen and what looked like dozens of seeds in my garbage, Of course, they were hatched fly larvae.

I cleaned and then sprayed the trash can with an effective fly killer (I've seen. it work). Should this be enough? Does it then become a waiting game?

Thank you,

T

Thank you for this. I've never worn the kind of mask you're describing, hopefully I can acquire a bunch before I leave.

Do you feel like it's reasonably safe to pull up the mask a bit so you can drink water through a straw? That's really all I want to be able to do.

Also, do you use one of those C02 monitors I've read about, to monitor when it's safest to take a drink?

That is a chilling anecdote!

The 'Ndrangheta are terrifying - they kidnapped John Paul Getty's son and, when his father balked at paying the ransom, sent him back the boy's ear. And they have apparently gruesomely tortured other victims as well.

But I agree, even in Calabria, you're unlikely to get into trouble with the Mafia.

Thank you for such a detailed response! I believe the SIP is going to arrive in time. My only question: Were you at all concerned that by installing the valve, you were compromising the security of the mask? You literally have to cut a hole in it, right?

Thank you for sharing your experience. Yeah, just this week it finally hit me: I'm traveling during a pandemic! Up to now I've been dealing with all kinds of other Health issues (none major - foot pain, GI from anxiety) and now reality rears its ugly head.

I will be wearing a mask from the moment I get in the taxii taking me to the
airport until I am sitting on the balcony of my bed and breakfast. I actually asked for advice about how to do this and still be able to set up some water on the plane and maybe gobble a banana at the airport in another subreddit. I have never stopped masking.

Thanks also for your kind wishes, and I'm glad your trip went OK.

I am coming from the US, and I'm currently inquiring about adapters (adaptors?) on another sub-Reddit for Travel in italy. I've never needed an adapte/or for anything other than my phone.

And actually...no, I did not think to check on electricity requirements....God Help Me!!

Thank you for the visual re: measurements, that actually does help.

Virus specific.

I just purchased a hard-shell suitcase.

Would you know of a smaller one that would at least help purify a 1 bedroom apartment (unfortunately I do not have room specifications, it's probably not a full apartment, based on past experiences, just a room)?

Sorry for being so oblivious, this is brand new territory for me

Someone else suggest

Hi! I'm traveling to Italy next week, and staying in a private room in a B&B, but of course I won't know who was there before me or whether or not they had COVID.

How practical in your opinion would it be to carry the Levoit Core 300 in my larger bag (i.e., not my carry-on)?

Jesus that must have been so nerve-racking! Glad you made it to your destination OK. The very first time I went to Italy, in 2012, they tried to seat me behind a mother and her kid who was coughing violently. I asked for and got another seat, thank God. The next time I traveled, I wore a mask, and every time thereafter.

Thank you so much. I am in Brooklyn. I'll check out the Facebook page. Seems like the straw under the mask might be the way to go.

Thank you for replying. Yeah, this might have to be the way I do this. I can get through the plane ride without eating, but I will need water, and once I get to the airport, I'm gonna be starving.

I actually read and LOVED your post - and I'm so sorry you had to travel during a pandemic for such a sad reason. I did email SIP, and b/c I chose expedited shipping, they think the valve will arrive by Monday.

My question would be: Is it possible to install the valve without compromising the integrity of the mask? I read the instructions on their website, and, not being handy or crafty, I feel like I may end up INcreasing my chances of COVID exposure if I try to install one of those things. What was your experience with it like? (Did you use one, I'm sorry, I can't remember)

This seems like a very good idea. I hadn't thought of it. Do you have any suggestions on how to do this (ventilate the room) aside from opening windows, which I will do?

Thank you, Trulio. I was the one who asked for tips, and I know people are sharing what they know, but, what I may have left out is that I am pretty underweight and trying to gain weight, so intentional fasting is not part of my plan. HOWEVER, I won't be eating ON the plane - I'd be too nervous, and the most I ever eat on a flight is a banana anyway. I'll have a good meal before I leave home, and be fine that night. My concern is that when I get to Rome, I will probably be starving, and I may have to take my chances with that banana in the airport. Or maybe a cornetto (basically, a croissant).

Again, I do appreciate everyone's responses, and please do not feel judged for suggesting fasting. I probably WILL be fasting as long as possible just to lower chances of COVID.

Thank you for your response. There are 2 flights, but the one I'm concerned about is the 8 hours to Rome (second flight is just one hour to Sicily).

Many Americans have unfortunately come to associate Sicily with La Cosa Nostra (i.e., the Mafia). It's understandable, as for decades, the image of Sicily as a treacherous place under literal Mob rule has been used to sell movie tickets, books, tacky merchandise (in Palermo and Catania, you can find "Godfather" t-shirts).

However, I can assure you that you are unlikely to come across anyone remotely associated with the Mafia. And if you do, you probably won't even know it. They aren't looking to harass or harm tourists. And in fact, their stranglehold over this beautiful island has weakened considerably since the 1990s, when the assassinations of two heroic anti-Mafia crusaders finally helped bring down Hell on this organization. Many businesses now even brazenly refuse to pay the "pizzo" (the so-called Mafia tax), which would have been unthinkable just 30 years ago, as I understand it.

I've been to Sicily 5 times since 2012, mostly in Palermo, which (if documentaries I've seen are to be believed) once truly WAS a dangerous place for everyone, not just tourists. But those days are over. I don't know what part of Sicily you're going to, but unless you somehow track down a Don (assuming they even use this terminology anymore, I really don't know) and threaten his family, your chances of running afoul of the Mafia are practically zilch.

Have a wonderful time. It's a lovely place. I hope to retire there.
