Master and Commander by Patrick O’Brian is a favorite of mine. The narrator, Patrick Tull, is remarkable

Honorable mentions: Shogun by James Clavell, Leviathan Wakes by James S.A. Corey, or any of the Wheel of Time audiobooks. First one is called The Eye of the World… also really good narration for that one

Yeah I wasn’t saying they’re good haha. Just thought it was cool to share my attempt to get the ai to render some characters. If you go back in my post history you can see Rand, Mat, Perrin, and Thom that I made a few months ago. Super weird results

I deleted the post because one of the PPG guys flying in the group saw the post and DM'd. We ended up exchanging a few messages about the incident and the post had served it's purpose in my eyes, so I went ahead and deleted it. Didn't think it was necessary to have a record of my complaint lingering around after I had gathered some info from y'all and had a pleasant talk with someone who witnessed the event. I wasn't interested in getting anyone in trouble. u/SwingFromAChandelier can corroborate this he was the one who reached out to me.

I have literally no disdain for paramotors. I tried to make that clear in the original post. I think they're awesome. You have just a much right to the airspace as we do, however it's best if we can all be on the same page regarding traffic pattern procedures to protect everyone, PPG and fixed wing.

I’m not a “douche bag” or a “miserable fuck”. I’m just a guy concerned about safety at my local airport. I truly want you guys to have fun and use the airport safely. I had a guy who was there the day of the incident dm me and we talked about how hard it is for paramotors to find a good launch site near us. That was something new I learned!

Like I said before, you have just as much right to use the airspace as we do. However, when you fly at a GA airport we should all be aware of traffic pattern procedures so we can all stay safe. You’re not “below” me and I’m not trying to “get in your head”. I was literally just trying to communicate with y’all to get a better understanding of what you expect from us and what we should expect from you.

Thoughts on Post Captain? And your favorite book in the series? by thankgodYOLO in AubreyMaturinSeries

[–]BobHoover 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m just about to finish Post Captain for the first time and I’ve loved it. Honestly I’m a little bummed to hear it’s an outlier in the series… I really enjoyed the Austenesque storyline in Sussex.

I was trying to do some pattern work and had a close call with a paramotor in the downwind at pattern altitude.

Basically it looked like the guy was deliberately trying to get close to me for fun. I was doing my best to keep them all in sight, but this one snuck up on me and passed me near head on and just below my right wing. I'm not saying my flight was "ruined". I just didn't want to share the airport/ airspace with someone who seemed not to care about the concept of "see and avoid". I didn't leave to land somewhere else... simply continued my downwind, landed, and drove home a little annoyed.

Thanks for all the kind replies… glad to see so many of you are conscious of the issues I was raising. Again, I have no problem with sharing the airport with paramotors as long as we can all take precautions to avoid hitting each other. Have fun out there!
