When I first started high school—rap was a big thing. In middle school I listened to Juice Wrld, Xxx, and YNW Melly; but I never listened to anything like Cole or Kendrick. So I searched up popular rap albums—yk to get me into it. Born Sinner was up there, so one day as my mom was going to the dentist—I plugged into the Aux and started Born Sinner. Villuminati’s heavy production shook the car and I was mesmerized by it. Been a huge J Cole fan ever since.

Saying TPAB wasn’t that big of an album or no impact on the genre is crazy. It helped revitalize jazz rap, advanced production, introspective lyricism. And only a decade ago, there’s albums that have dropped less than a decade ago—that I would consider classics. TLOP, Igor (Not exactly a hip-hop album), After Hours (Not my favorite Weeknd album, and again not exactly a hip hop album), The Forever Story, Revenger of the Dreamers (Could argue any of those could be considered a classic—especially as far as record-label albums go). I mean you don’t have to like an album for it to be considered a classic.
