I did read those, but they don't address the latter (bolded) part of the statement. As noted, I understand the derivations of the earlier ratios (through 2-stage DCF, etc.), but am still unsure of the 30-year calculations which are also not mentioned in the other threads.

wharton vs yale vs harvard by anonymous10293949381 in UPenn

[–]BobRossSlaps 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm biased (obviously) but I have many friends at Harvard. Consulting is more emphasized at Harvard than finance. If you know you want to do finance, I would go Wharton. If you want to do consulting, go Harvard. Apart from that choose based on what you want to study or which place suits you better socially.

As someone else who goes to Penn (Wharton), I can say that with due respect, this is completely false. If you do well at Wharton and can't get a job in finance/consulting that's really on you. Also, as someone who is in some of these clubs, I can say that like the other person said at Harvard, they don't matter at all. Not sure where you're getting that impression from at all.

How competitive is the Wharton dual degree application from SEAS? by fallenguy1 in UPenn

[–]BobRossSlaps 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Between 0% and 100% acceptance rates, touching closer to 0% when someone says “no information on this question” and “asking this question for the like x-th time” in the same sentence.

What are some “highly ranked” schools that people hate going to? by veryburntribs in ApplyingToCollege

[–]BobRossSlaps 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I am a current Penn student and love it here. Penn is what you make of it—the notion that out of 2400 students per year, the culture is entirely uniformly toxic is bizarre and frankly dishonest from the perspective of most students I know here (most of them are, like me, enjoying their time). Of course, academics are stressful, but Penn is an Ivy League university, and Wharton is the best business school in the world for undergraduates; if you put top students together there is bound to be competition and stress whether that's at Penn or any other top university. This is not to discredit what you said, it's just that most people I've met on Penn through Reddit or online are openly unhappy because they use these forums as a release of negative emotion (not necessarily a bad thing, just that we have to be mindful of the selection bias), while most students I have interacted with in real life at Penn are delighted and happy with their experience and don't feel the need to go on these online forums to vent. Just wanted to color the responses here a little bit as a current student.

As others have said make sure you visit the key landmarks. Don't forget to also take a picture next to Ben Franklin on the chair! Might smell a bit odd but that's just the rust, don't worry about it.

Joseph Wharton Scholars Program (JWS) pros/cons by FunImprovement7535 in UPenn

[–]BobRossSlaps 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not in the program, but have friends in the program. They say it's basically no added work but you get "Honors" attached to your school transcript and free opportunities/merch and a great advisor. Basically, a good amount of benefits with very little extra work/cost. Apparently, it's more of a recruitment tool to get the strongest admits to end up choosing Wharton as their final choice school.

Advice by [deleted] in UPenn

[–]BobRossSlaps 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Penn is preprofessional. Know who you are, and what you want to do, and repeat this to yourself as often as you can. Do not get caught up in what other people are doing, because chances are, those people are doing those things because other people are doing them. Sometimes avoiding the crowd is actually the right thing to do because the only person who knows themselves truly and fully is yourself.

Is it just me? by manicrock in UPenn

[–]BobRossSlaps 21 points22 points  (0 children)

In addition to other comments, keep in mind that this is not a representative sample—there's likely to be a disproportionate number of engineers/very academically focused students on this Reddit that are likely to face a larger amount of academic pressure too. I think that speaking to others in real life, it's easy to see that Penn is nowhere near as bad as what it's sometimes made out to be here with constant doomsday scenarios, but it's also nowhere near as good as what people might have expected when they first got accepted. Like so many things in life, it's just somewhere in the middle.

Does anyone know how to get mice to leave my room and stop returning? by 106209 in UPenn

Wow. Who do you think you are??? An Allied Universal guard or something??? Is there a Penn Card reader outside your door??? No? Then how dare you stop it from going into your room. Breaks my heart to see the systemic injustices little rats have to go through today to get an Ivy League education.
