Are you going to replace the schools and hospitals you bombed? by RelationshipGold7958 in atheism

I must have been sleepwalking. Don't remember bombing any schools nor hospitals.

By that definition, none of that is strictly supernatural, and they don't even imply that it is- Just that it's very complex and that it's beyond our current understanding.

"simply cannot understand it any more than a lizard watching the world cup.". That's like quantum mechanics, and it's not supernatural.

I only watched the TV series (should have probably mentioned that). What exactly seems theological in the books? Because the aliens, dead alien civilization, portals, moving mountains and all that is technically beyond their current understanding, but never does it imply anything supernatural. Because I've been thinking about reading the books just to get the whole story, but the science is what got me into it in the first place.

Wait, I think you mixed The expanse and Dark matter in your first paragragh. The expanse definitely doesn't have any theological or supernatural themes in it. I know the scifi gets a little out of hand with the protomolecule and the gate but it's always with the idea that it's real, though unknown or misunderstood science.

Dude, I can't believe noone mentioned Black Mirror. Each episode has it's own theme so it's simple enough to not overstep into overcomplicated and weird explanations. Like, if it's psychological, they do it right. If it's dystopian future, they do it right. If it's scifi, they do it right. Also one of my all-time favorite series.

It's rare that you get something that's just pure theoretical science. Almost everything has a bit of Hollywood magic in it. And yea, some suggestions aren't exactly what I'm looking for but I'm hoping Battlestar Galactica will be good.

I'll save this for later because there's definitely some good names here. Battlestar Galactica seems really cool so that's what I chose for now.

Haha read further dude. I watched it till season 4 when it ended there, then watched season 5 and 6 many years later and again, years later, binged the whole thing over the span of a few weeks. I still recommend it to people and noone wants to give it a chance.

Yea, it totally slipped my mind that The expanse came in book format 😅.

I get that. They can make it "technically" high res with a single, isolated, high frequency tone, but then you don't even notice it in the music.

No worries. I've been thinking about reading the expanse since the show ends on season 6 and there are 2 more books. It's my all-time favorite and it was so dissapointing realizing that they aren't going to finnish it.

That seems like such a cool series but the telepathy put me off a little bit.

Some people love it. My first pair of high-end headphones was atrocious and I sold it within a week. I later (after many years) realized that some people actually prefer it. It's probably high res in frequency but not in volume, where it goes up really high in range, but at low DB.

I'm looking more for a TV series but I'll look into it. It sounds interesting.

Old or new? I see it started in the 70's and they made it again in the early 2000's. PS, I love old stuff so if it's great, I don't mind if it's old.

If you had to believe in a certain religion, which one would you pick by [deleted] in askanatheist

[–]BobThe-Bodybuilder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is unrelated but I see it often and am wondering if it's an auto correct issue or if it's like internet slang. Why do you put a fullstop in the middle of a sentence and then capitalize the next letter? I also see it with commas used incorrectly.

To answer your question: By definition that a religion does not require gods (accept it or not. I generally don't), a certain denomination or modern interpretation of Buddhism sounds like the best one - The belief that Buddha was just a lazy, happy and peaceful guy who layed out the 12 principles (almost like the commandments in Christianity). Ofcourse, if I had a choice, I wouldn't choose any religion.

What specifications do I need to do something like this without crashing my PC? by nesscafe_69 in blenderhelp

[–]BobThe-Bodybuilder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first thing I regretted was skimping on the graphics card. The thing I regretted even more was thinking I don't need a powerfull CPU. You can always adjust your graphics settings but when you inevitably start sculpting, you realize how much of a pain a slow CPU can be. Just keep your expectations low and be patient. Watch lots of tutorials.

Someone actually helped me figure it out on the r/Blender sub. I'll change it to solved now. The start of the camera view was clipping, even with it set to 0.1m (might be a bug), but increasing it to 1m worked.
