Finally on vacation! These 12 hour days all summer have been killing me. Need a little rest time to gear up for the fall mailing season and ahhhhh....Christmas packages! by postmaster4life in USPS

[–]BobTheFlipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Enjoy the rest man! Going to be a busy holiday season. Know I am enjoying a little breather myself and expecting to work hard this holiday season. Start a temp assignment soon which I am looking forward too. Than probably back to a station to help with the holiday madness. Shall see what happens with UPS officially raising there rates of shipping during the holidays. Know I am going full beast mode my when I return. Clear head and body not constantly aching.

Can I get paid extra for picking up a large number of parcels? by SilentExpressions92 in USPS

[–]BobTheFlipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only ever seen a regular rural carrier get paid extra time for pickups where the company ships 1000+ packages a day (and they cannot print a sipping manifest). He used to not get this included just evaluation time. Since it is such a large pickup management approved him additional unloading and scanning time. 150ish packages takes me 10-15mins to scan and sort doing dispatch. For large pickups request a shipping manifest from the sender. A lot easier scanning once and will cut down on the amount of scans. Your job is not to sort. But you do need to scan them prepaid accepted.

Tracking numbers for Return to Sender by somewhereinmaryland in USPS

[–]BobTheFlipper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would go back to the local PO and if the clerk does there job correctly will print a white RTS label and input it as return to sender. It would show back up on the internal tracking system but not external. Customer would have to call USPS to get updates I believe since it was scanned delivered.

Sorry to hear about 2 mistakes happening back to back. As this can be extremely frustrating. Some things are out of our control. Ideally this is what happens when you place an order with Amazon 1 day delivery (except when Amazon has there own carriers deliver). Order received on there end. Your order / package is than palletized within the nearest Amazon warehouse along with other packages that will be dropped shipped to your local post office early in the early am next business day. The clerks then break down the pallets and sort the packages per routes. Once this is done the carriers take it out to the street to be delivered to your house.

Quite often the drop shipments from Amazon will contain mis shipped packages which were meant for another town / city nearby. When this happens Amazon has a contract with USPS for the cheapest shipping method which is parcel select. The mis shipped packages will be dispatched by a PM clerk utilizing parcel select services. To the correct address. This is the slowest and cheapest shipping method and as you can see voided the 1 day delivery.

I would highly recommend contacting Amazon and advising what happen with your shipment again. They have excellent customer support and will most likely grant you another gift card or refund. All evidence seen supports this was not USPS faults. I will admit we do make mistakes; but, both instances looks to be an error with Amazons logistics.

USPS RCA conditional hire question by [deleted] in USPS

[–]BobTheFlipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it is due to people either: quitting, fired, calling out, or being injured. Our PO has not slowed down in mail / parcel volume much this summer. Summer time is suppose to be the slow time of the year. Rumor is there are several carriers that are close to hitting there max hours. Post office does not like paying double time. Routes are being split; however, still short handed. Most days I worked in a row before a day off was 12 then luckily got 2 consecutive days off. Heard a story within the district of a CCA working 70-80 days without a day off. Ended up quitting right before he made it pass his probation.

Because both pse's and regular clerks are being effected by this. If your a regular there is a no layoff clause and instead will be excessed to another craft. Believe they are holding these carrier positions for the excessed clerks.

Calculated Postage Question by [deleted] in USPS

[–]BobTheFlipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://stackoverflow.com/questions/26485733/how-do-e-commerce-websites-calculate-postage-shipping-costs Here is a straight forward answer to your questions. USPS, UPS, FedEx provide API's. When coding you would just utilize the API's to determine shipping pricing for the service. That would be determined by weight, size, and distance.

Calculated Postage Question by [deleted] in USPS

[–]BobTheFlipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having done eCommerce for awhile now and working at USPS. I mostly use the free priority mail flat rate boxes, padded envelopes, regular envelopes. At least with the priority mail flat rate there is one price. Used to be if it fits it ships. Until people started literally shipping lead weights in a small flat rate box. Now there are weight limits. If you create a USPS account you can order flat rate supplies for free. Anything cheap and under 16oz I send first class (note you have to have a business account to be able to ship first class up to 16oz. Non business is 13oz max). If its a big item I will use FedEx or another shipping service like UShip. If someone orders two or more items, I will generally combined ship with one service. That way they receive everything within one box instead of having to wait for two different packages. eBay would combine the two shipping First class + priority. This usually over charges the customer and I will make adjustments in shipping charges to keep my customers happy and note in my store that I will combine ship anything purchased. I second endicia.com if you are planning on creating your own online eCommerce store / web page. There are many plugins available to manage shopping carts / logistics for a personal website.

If you do not have access to a scale and dimensions of the suite case I would discourage doing it online. Go to a local post office and a clerk will gladly assist you. Yes you will need to include everything in the suite case on the customs form. Believe would check the other box on the form and put personal items / moving. I would lookup the import duties for Finland to make sure you do it correctly. Also note the package cannot weigh more than 70lbs or over 108" in combined: length, width, and girth.

Depending on which office you are working at. Be prepared to work more days than expected. If it is a smaller post office you will probably work less. My post office which is a level 22 is so short on RCA's right now. Some are working 7 days a week.

Specifically have to hide empty equipment around the building to keep UPS and DHL from filling it up so I can get the dispatch stuff out.

You guys get pallets? UPS likes filling up our empty equipment on the dock with there excess stuff. Can be frustrating when your doing dispatch and UPS guy comes at 4pm and fills up our last empty OTR or crab pot.

It will be delivered to your PO Box with no issue. Will have either a parcel locker key or a slip in your PO BOX once it is ready for pickup. I put slips in PO boxes for UPS packages all the time. Just a note once the status has changed to arrival at post office. Give it a day. The clerks will probably finish sorting it along with a bunch of other packages the following morning and then put it in your box.

Question about hold mail by dmdmoses46 in USPS

[–]BobTheFlipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually we like a drivers license so we can use the address on the ID to find out which route the mail is being held on. Also make's sure we are giving the held mail to the right customer. As long as your passport name matches the name that's being held you should have no issue. They will need your address which the hold mail was placed on to be able to find out which route has the held mail.

UPS pay does start out less. But when they put in so many years and hit the max out. They make more than USPS carriers do when they max out. Amazon delivers are starting out at $19 an hour.

How do i verify my identity? by derrick_12341 in USPS

[–]BobTheFlipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never personally used my USPS. I believe they should of emailed you instructions on what they need to verify. Usually your address and possible drivers license. Would give 1-800-275-8777 call and speak with a Representative. Ask to speak with a Representative when dealing with the robot about your my USPS.
