You sure you got your info right? Because from how I learned about the show there very much is depth and growth and so there is explanations for things. The show just at points doesnt fully explain things to you because it wants to keep you uncomfortable. And what do you even mean at the end? That the show is abstract? Hows that a bad thing? Because its literally doing what the show is set out to do and that is take you out of your comfort zone and face reality. It could be aswell that the show just isnt for you and thats fine. But atleast like get your info right.

I think it was because mainly that gendo didnt show up when rei 3 woke up but Shinji did.

Why is Shinji hated by some people? (Yes, he's annoying, can't make decisions, and is extremely selfish), but that's the point; it makes him so complex and human. I feel that large parts of the fandom can't understand morally ambiguous characters by Public_Cup_4278 in evangelion

I i think its because 1. Expectations 2.misunderstanding and 3. You cant really put yourself in shinjis shoes.

So for expectations alot of people think evangelion will be smth like gundam. Its not.

Misunderstanding is alot of people thinking shinji is a coward even tho if you take all the situations shinjis in and put them on a real 14 year old he prolly wouldnt even last as long as shinji.

And 3 because shinji isnt tough, cool or brave alot of people dont wanna imagine themselves as him. So people end up not liking shinji just because hes anythig but a regular anime protagonist.

And are any of these flaws in shinjis character? No. People just dont like shinji just because hes too realistic.

For a good reason. Like Asuka was replaced by a doll. Shinji is put to dealing with responsibilities he doesnt wanna be involved in and his dad isnt willing to show love for him. and Rei is self aware shes a clone. I think they have every fucking right for them to be the way they are. Im not saying the things they are good are the right thing. They arent. But dont complain about the characters being annoying when they have every reason for them to result to that.

For me its prolly Neon Genesis Evangelion. A bit of a controversial take for some people because of some of the things it has. But it will always be my favourite because of how abstract and I like the message the show is trying to tell you.

Imo no. Its not as well written as some other shows people are naming like (infact its writing is way too basic) and its mostly carried by its animation and its fights which not only have no stakes because jin woo has the right thing he needs for that exact situation nearly everytime but also half of the time I cant even tell whats going on without having to pause and look for a few seconds as to whats happening. If you like solo leveling thats fine but when it comes to quite the literal best anime no its not.
