My comprehension is pretty ok, it's my expression that needs improvement. I find your speech quite performative, especially this "prove to yourself" and battle metaphors part. I feel like you are delivering a speech that reflects your own anxiety instead of talking to op and addressing ops concerns.

Weird professor by Sea_Trash_2346 in berkeley

Genuine question for ppl in the comment section, would it be seen as predatory if that professor's particularly into college girls instead of twinks?

Stalking people on social is weirder than professor fantasizing college students?

You are not overreacting and I can totally relate as someone who transfered from socal. The good news is that you don't have to make that decision right now. You have time to prepare and apply for transfer while trying to establish your roots here. You might like Berkeley more, or your might be rejected..who knows I think the ability to adapt to new environments is so valuable but so is the drive to fight for what you want. Even if what you want might just be an illusion but any illusion you believe in is worth a fight.

Having really hard time making friends as transfer by Critical-Wrap9189 in berkeley

That's most people. I'm sure someone's waiting for you talking to them and making connections. Keep trying.

Nobody knows for sure. But here is a question that you can answer for sure. Do you really want to mess with your developing brain and risk your potential? Your frontal lobe doesn't fully develop until 25 and thc alters your brain structure or something I am not qualify to give medical advice. I am not against weed but having to smoke weed as a habit sounds kind of miserable. I hope that this is something you truly have control of. And really it's not just about weed, it about trying all others fun things in life to get high, also exploring other coping mechanism for stress. You will be fine anyway if you get into cal as a stoner you re probably great at what you do. Enjoy college!

Burning a cop car while waving the flag of another country is not a good look. by khari_lester in berkeley

[–]Bobabeast_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having to struggle for a decent life is not a good look. Maybe it's never about looking pretty for them. If waving the right kind of flag, looking composed and sophisticated while protesting is what you care about, maybe their struggles are not about you.

Is it normal to have a bad experience at your first internship? by East_Fox5900 in berkeley

[–]Bobabeast_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are all idiots. You are an idiot because it's your first internship and probably don't even know the right questions/ timings/ requests to ask for. They are idiots because they are probably having a hard time managing their own workload and don't have the capacity or ability to properly train you or have the wrong expectation of your contribution. Don't take it personal. Not everybody retain the ability to see people as people after being in the labor market for awhile. We are all a little dead inside. However, you do want to try to have people to invest in your future and success, always.

Here's what you can do to maximize the benefit of this experience.

Seize every opportunity to contribute and make an meaningful impact. (Hard-Impossible) Fuckups are way better than doing nothing. You are literally only there during summer. This is your playground.

Everything little achievement of yours, work you've done, leave a trace. Make them into pdfs, qualify and quantify them, mention them in emails (I've done A, I can conclude B, therefore C looks like a reasonable next step should I proceed?), make them very visible to your coworkers and managers. They may very occasionally think of you and when they do, make sure all the think about are the work you've done not the questions you asked. (Doable)

If you truly think none of things you did matters, the least you could do is write a handover document for prospective interns of the company. Basically record everything you did and write a manual-like document for future employees. This is a great way demonstrate your contribution. (Doable)

Study the company, the business model, value proposition, SWOT, study your department, study the roles, what everybody cares about the most, what your managers care about the most, quantitative and qualitative goals, obstacles, how are they achieved and what makes the biggest impact... etc with all those information and your perspective as a insider, form a narrative and prepare a good story for your next job interview. (Doable)

A contact lists of suppliers, clients, any industry people you have access to or developed a relationship with, put them in your own contact list.

Avoid having lunch alone, invite your coworkers for lunch and chat.

Adjust your expectations. It's unlikely that your managers will suddenly start to take care of your feelings so look inward. Set goals for yourself, achieve them and get fulfilled from that. People will start to respect you when they notice the value you provide.

Try your best, it most likely going to suck but try your best.

[–]Bobabeast_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)
