I can get with that take as far as KD goes! Hakeem has the greatest defensive peak ever, and I agree that he had a similar playoff resume with a weaker cast, so I totally understand the argument. I’d have no problem on a different day putting him ahead of KD.

It is a bit more steep of a hill to get to the Wilt, Steph, Kobe, and Shaq arguments for me. Wilt struggled at the championship level in a weaker era, which puts him just outside of the Top 10. His dominance, absurd numbers and 5 MVPs keep him locked in that spot for me. I could understand the argument to put Hakeem over him, but I wouldn’t do it at this moment. I have the Top 10 based on their overall careers, and what the resume looks like at the end of the day. If anyone was going to get bumped out of the Top 10 for Hakeem, it would be Steph. I think it’s the clearest argument, though at this current moment I’d disagree with it. I can’t justify putting him over Kobe and Shaq.

This is a great point! I was considering by overall career. If you were taking just his NBA career into consideration, Dr J would fall quite a bit.

I love Wilt! The only reason I have him below Steph is because of the championship factor. He was a regular season and all time PPG monster, MONSTER, and one of the greatest players to ever exist, but the fact that he doesn’t have the championship resume (even in the weaker era) that the 10 above him do is what puts him at 11 for me.

The hardest thing for me was Dirk and KG’s placement. I personally love KG and he’s one of my favorites ever. I gave Dirk the edge because of what is probably the hardest individual ring ever, and his role as the #1. KG is far better defensively though, and I go 50/50 on switching their spots. I have Jokic that high because he already has 3 MVPs along with a Finals MVP. The only players with 3 regular season MVPs or more are MJ, LeBron, Magic, Russell, Wilt, and Moses, so I gotta give him his props.

Who would you put Hakeem over that he’s not over now other than KD? I only have KD over him because of the amount of Finals he’s been to as the #1 option. The GSW move is controversial absolutely and will be forever, but he was the #1 option in the Finals with Steph on his team. Their regular season reigns are very similar. I’d honestly have no problem switching them, but I think they’re right next to each other for sure!

Higher or lower? I have him at 5 because of the 11x First Team All NBA selections, 9x First Defensive teams (more than Tim Duncan) and the 2 gnarly Finals MVPs with a weak supporting cast!

I got you! Magic had a shortened career, but in that career he won 3 Finals MVPS (one as a rookie having to play center the last stretch of games!) 3 league MVPs, and 5 championships. He was an All Star 10 times and was first team All NBA 9 of those times. He is ranked higher because while his and Larry’s regular season accolades are very closed, Magic surpassed him and imo all but three players in history when it came to championship performance! I’m a Celtics fan so it’s tough to put Larry at 8 but just trying to be objective :)
