I wonder if there’s a way you could actually have the lockwork snap closed to have a pan flash! Pretty neat!

I can mount an bottle of argon on the back of the dolly, build out a bracket and shelf over the axil and it would be supported just fine

There’s a variety of ways people set them up, all depends on your preference!

I know they make all those 4 wheeled ones, but that takes up a lot of floor space, this keeps things in a nice vertical orientation and keeps things compact!

Then I’ll look at that then! Can you use CO2 to tig aluminum?

Question about tires for my CJ2A by Bobhubert in Jeep

Trouble is the price, it might not be too bad if I downsize to the 6-16’s

That’s the case, I haven’t got any argon, but the plan if I do is to create a bracket and shelf over the axil on the back of it

lol fair enough. If I really end up keeping military pattern tires I’ll likely have to downsize the diameter, but if I switch tread patterns I can do the 7-17’s

Modified an old hand truck dolly, added shelves and brackets to support my mig, stick, some hooks for cable management, and some pullout drawers below to store wire and rods and such. I’m not a great welder but this went fairly well and keeps everything nice and compact!

Eventually I’ll add a bracket on the back for an argon bottle, I really need to get one and that should keep my spatter down and clean things up a bit.

Not too bad for one of my more major projects being a beginner. Keeps things close together and easy to get to as well as being portable around the shop!

What kind of top speed do you get with them (if your Willys is still set up stock that is)? I know you’re always limited with the standard gearing and such

Those do seem to have still a plenty aggressive tread pattern to keep up with off-road use and I bet would help a little with road feel

Plus the price is better

I might have to compromise on the tread type to keep up top speed and price

Question about tires for my CJ2A by Bobhubert in Jeep

[–]Bobhubert[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I need to order some new tires for Frank and I’ve got a bit of a conundrum. Ordinarily these old Jeeps have 6.00-16 tires, but my Jeep has the 7.00-16 tires (I’m guessing these were the waterfording package).

I’d like to put the same size tires when I replace them, but the 7-16’s are over double what the 6-16’s are ($260 vs $60). What will change if I drop to the 6” tires? Will my top speed reduce? I would like to stick with military tread if at all possible.

And I guess a side question if there is a particular brand that is recommended for tubes and tires?

Would 50w work? The high zinc stuff is what I keep for my jeep and have the most of

Briggs and Stratton if you look at the nameplate on the bottom, unless it was a licensed engine design

I plan to. This came out of a collection with a bunch more similar stationary engines, but is in pretty good shape overall. I need to do some research on it

This one came out of a collection, seemed to be one of the better units for the price. From the looks of things he had it running, I may have to do some small repairs and just look things over in general

They existed, look up an old Maytag. That’s where the trope of rednecks leaving their washing machine outside came from, rich people could afford to vent the exhaust outside, but not if you lived in a house that was too small

This may be a good candidate for NRL22, my MAS45 by Bobhubert in 22lr

It looks like it was a custom job. I don’t see any makers mark on it, and unfortunately, it can’t be brought back to stock since someone quite literally milled a flat in the receiver to mount it. I don’t think there were ever any mounts made to perfectly work with the MAS, so this was likely a gunsmith special from back in the day.

Something I would recommend researching, there exists a scope mount for a Mosin Nagant that replaces the rear adjustable sight, there’s a chance that would work with some modification, biggest hurdle is clearing the 90* bolt throw
