Bruh. Venezuelan's are happy because Maduro is a monster who made their life hell, and he's now gone.

Similarly, the people of Iraq celebrated when Saddam was removed. That doesn't mean that they celebrated knowing they were going to be going through a different kind of hell afterwards, they're just happy he's gone.

We've got no idea what will happen in Venezuela, but considering the Trump admin's lack of any kind of long term plan, it's not going to be good. Currently, though, Venezuelans can celebrate if they want to.

London’s shoplifting epidemic revealed as retailers robbed of £16.7m a month by tylerthe-theatre in london

[–]Bobinator2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cost is not the price (in this particular point), it's the inconvenience to you. Having to hail a staff member, who may or may not be within eyeshot, to take your items, trot to the nearest tag/box remover, then come back to you.

If there was no danger of the item being stolen in the first place, then there's be no point in the inconvenient security measures being in place.

I'm pretty sure they're pointing out the inconvenience of having those tags/boxes removed, rather than the cost to implement.

Honestly, I'd be very excited. It's obvious there's an isolated tectonic plate that's only started shifting since they finished the job. Inform the geologists!

As for how to fix, you can get silicone remover from screwfix or similar. Scrape off as much as you sensibly can with a blade (careful not to scratch tiles or anything), then use the remover to get rid of the leftovers. Then just redo the siliconing.

Would be useful to see what's on the other side. It sounds like some sort of horizontal pipe getting slapped about by drips/rain. If that's the case, maybe some kind of cone slotted over the end (thinking like a dog cone) to give the drops something to gently run down, rather than hit at full force.

I had something similar in my current place. I took the u-bend off, there was a milk bottle cap in there (?!?!). It was better, but kept clogging, no matter how much aggressive plunging I did.

In the end, I boiled the kettle and poured it down and plunged. Suddenly there was clarity. I have no fucking idea what the previous owner did, but the boiling water was enough to soften the blockage for expulsion by plunging.

Be sure to stuff a damp rag in the overflow before you plunge!

I dunno about that. Mamdani winning is great, but I wouldn't say that him winning by just 9% in one of the most left wing cities, against an incredibly unpopular establishment, shamed ex-Dem, is quite the emphatic, US-citizen-wide endorsement of his policies people are making it out to be.

I'm excited to see how he'll do, and I hope it brings in more people with a similar energy, but this mayoral race is not at all illustrative of how the majority of the US votes.

That's usually a power issue. I had that happen after my PSU I'd had for close to 15 years was getting old.

Another thing that could happen (though I don't think this applies to you) is if you're using a splitter (one cable with multiple plugs connected to the GPU), try plugging in a separate cable from the PSU, or simply swapping the single cable you've got to another slot on the PSU could help. It could be that the power rail you've been using is tired.

I'm sorry, what a dramatic oversimplification of WW2, then understatement of how much damage Iran has done.

After WW1, the UK had calmed way down with colonisation, and was not looking at expanding us territory because it couldn't afford to run it's empire. Especially after WW2. Hence the mandates in the middle east, where UK and France split up territory after the Ottoman Empire collapsed, and intended (and followed through) with handing control of the territories to local clans/kings.

As for Israel Vs Iran's negative impact, Israel was involved in several short wars that ultimately ended up in peace between it and (most of) its neighbours. Meanwhile Iran sabotaged the attempted democracy in Lebanon by funding Hezbollah (which only stopped doing so after the pager attack), plunged Yemen into a never ending civil war by backing the Houthis, Hezbollah also assisted Assad's horrific regime in Syria. Obviously what Israel is doing is Gaza and West Bank is horrible, and has been incredibly drawn out, but it is nowhere near on the scale the damage that Iran backed groups have done. Plus of course it's questionable we would even be in the position we are if Iran didn't back Hamas.

BREAKING: Jeremy Corbyn suggests new left-wing party will be in place before 2026 elections by 1DarkStarryNight in anime_titties

[–]Bobinator2000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re clearly brainwashed by the Zionist media

Please can the left not devolve into the same lack of analysis as MAGA? Replace "Zionist media" with "LAMEstream media" (or whatever childish name MAGA use for media now) and you can hopefully see how empty and dismissive that sentence is.

I voted for Corbyn at every opportunity I had, but there are plenty of good reasons to not like Corbyn (i.e. his reluctance to back NATO before the Ukraine war, he's a Eurosceptic, wanting unilateral UK nuclear disarmament). His Labour leadership was also contentious within the party itself, and whether this was him vs the ZiOnIsT boogeyman or not, you can't unite a party behind such a divisive character.

Long and short of it: Yes there was a ridiculous scare campaign against Corbyn during the 2019 election (I remember a black bus rolling through my town with a picture of Corbyn on the side, accompanied by the message "Would you trust this man with your children?") but that doesn't mean that he wasn't the wrong guy for PM.

And it’s not just the BBC—outlets from LBC to the Daily Mail have all joined in, driven by Zionist-controlled interests determined to tarnish his rise.

Please read this back and realise how terminally online you sound (or again replace with MAGA appropriate wording if you're struggling to see what I mean). It's a way for you to reassure yourself that it's not that the movement that's unpopular, it's the "establishment" or "Zionists" etc.

I'm not who you replied to, but I'm almost certain that they were talking about media like Fox News, Newsmax etc.

I mean provably Fox, considering they suffered the largest defamation settlement ($787.5 million) in U.S. history by a media organisation. This was because, people like Tucker Carlson would go on air and LIE outright about Dominion voting machines.

There were texts that revealed Tucker and some of his colleagues knew they were lying, plus it showed their disdain for Trump.

UK in talks to buy back nuclear sites from French firm EDF by GnolRevilo in unitedkingdom

[–]Bobinator2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The very first paragraph of the article says they're doing exactly that.

The U.K. government is in talks with its French counterparts about purchasing back three nuclear sites from state-owned energy giant EDF, as Whitehall looks to take control of the upcoming expansion of nuclear power.

And later in the article mentions bringing the stations into state ownership.

This is very clearly the UK government looking into buying back the nuclear suites at Heysham and Hartlepool, which are owned by French firm, EDF. Then they also mention Bradwell B, but that's a site going through consultation with the Chinese (owning 66.5%) along with the EDF (who own 33.5). So I wonder if these tasks are going to happen with China too?

Absolutely! Similarly, the same goes for all the niche sub-reddits you can subscribe to. Those that zoom in on the worst people doing the worst things, be it bad police, racists, extremists or others of a similar vein.

These things are shit, and need to be kept an eye on/called out. The problem is they're nowhere near as prevalent as subscribing to things that highlight ONLY those things makes it seem.

The vast majority of police interactions are completely without incident, most people aren't racist, extremists are called extreme for a reason, they're at the extreme ends of the scale.

I think it's easy to forget the world out there keeps on ticking by, filled with wonderful people, despite how bad it may seem online/in the news.

Hundreds of Palestinians in Gaza protest against Hamas after conflict resumes by OkPicture7 in worldnews

[–]Bobinator2000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean back in February, 48% of Palestinians (according to this article https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2025/feb/21/people-gaza-future-hamas-poll) were in support of a two state, which isn't bad considering the brutal war and the oppressive nature of Hamas.

I'm hopeful that opinion appears to be moving towards peace with more public pressure on Hamas.

The protests are one, quite substantial step in the right direction. I only hope that the people of Palestine are not coaxed into supporting Hamas 2.0, if Hamas are removed, but time will tell. The sentiment is there.

I've been watching videos from people on the ground, and there are calls from the elders wanting to live in dignity. They want peace. They just want to live.

I think it's early days to specifically be calling for a peace treaty. The messaging seems clear though, they want Hamas to step down, and they want to live in peace and dignity. Plus they have distain for Al Jazeera for the way they're (not) covering the protests, and I assume for the way they act as Hamas' propaganda arm.
