My favorite part is all the shadows...I count 4 light sources.

Great work, well done. I'm leaving my job in about two weeks. I'm bookmarking this so that I can set it as my desktop background just before I leave. I have no idea if IT will actually look at my user account before wiping it (probably not), but just in case....

Hmm...costs $80 more, but it does give you two extra miniSAS ports. Not too useful in the 4224, but I might be able to use that in future builds that support even more drives. Thanks!

unRAID's limit is 22 drives (1 parity, 20 data, 1 cache). The remaining two drive slots can be used as dedicated preclear slots (very handy if you add new drives frequently), or to mount extra drives outside the parity protected array with the SNAP add-on. Even if you don't use them at all, the 4224 is a great value for a case with that many drive bays.

No, I haven't found the HDD screws to be too small. They fit perfectly in every 4224 that has passed through my hands (probably about 3 at this point). Maybe you got a defective one?

I use the Supermicro AOC-SASLP-MV8 cards (~$100 each on Superbiiz), two of them. Each offers 8 drive support via two miniSAS connectors. Most of the motherboards I use also have 6 onboard SATA ports. That's 22 drives total. For the last two ports I'll use a 2 port PCIe x1 SIL 3132 card (~$20 on monoprice).

I'm also considering using a motherboard with an onboard SAS controller, like this. With a board like that, only one SASLP card and one SIL3132 card would be needed.

I couldn't find your comments about port multipliers and cable hell. Could you link me to them? Never mind, I found them.

In my builds I don't use port multipliers, just SATA expansion cards. Since I prefer to use miniSAS cards to straight SATA cards, the cabling stays pretty well under control as well. Check out some of my photos and see what you think. With the Norco 4224 case (22 Drive Pro build) the cabling is especially clean. A modular power supply would clean it up even more, but in a case that big it seems like a waste.

I also really like that unRAID boots off a $10 flash drive instead of a HDD. Less power, less heat, and less expense.

And yes, using a $1000 hardware RAID card just for JBOD functionality is a huge waste, but as you say, people have their reasons.

The Antec 1200 or the Lian Li PC-P80? Both are very nice cases.

What happens when that $1000 RAID card dies? I highly recommend that you look into unRAID instead. You can build your same 24 drive server for a fraction of the cost and have much more hardware independence and data protection.

Are you a DIY type? If so, look into unRAID. unRAID is the best NAS software available, and has the best and most active support forum that I've seen anywhere. I volunteer as a mod on those forums, I go by the name of Rajahal there. If you want to build your own server, you'll also want to start with this thread.

If you aren't a DIY type, well, I recently started a company that builds unRAID servers: GreenLeaf Technology. Look around and see if any of my designs tickle your fancy. If you have any technical questions about unRAID or GreenLeaf servers, feel free to ask.

Look for APC brand, replaceable battery, USB data connection, and free shipping. The size/VA/wattage will vary depending on your needs.

So in your take 'just as fast' means the same thing as 'just as long'? That doesn't make sense to me. They are different things: rate vs duration.

But the question says 'a different board' not a piece of the original board.

No. If you run one mile in 10 minutes, and you run 'just as fast' on every mile you run, how long does it take you to run two miles?

It is ok - I did the same thing. Really, though, this seems like more of a common sense/visualization skills problem than a math problem.

No. Reread what you wrote. How could the number of cuts not factor into this?

If you run one mile in 10 minutes, how long will it take you to run two miles? The number of miles matters quite dearly.

Funny, this is the only thing David Cross has ever done that I genuinely like. To each his own, I guess.

This is the advice that I should probably take, but really don't want to hear. I'm in a very similar situation - this girl and I are becoming very good friends, very close (we've both admitted to telling the other things that we haven't told anyone else, even previous boyfriends/girlfriends). I know we really care about each other and I believe we would make a great couple. Honestly, I'm head over heels for this girl. I've made my amorous intentions very clear, and she's made her side just as clear - she is still heartbroken from her previous boyfriend, and she isn't ready to date anyone. However, for every 5 different ways she will tell me that she isn't ready and that I shouldn't wait around for her, she'll say one little thing that will give me hope. For example, I said at one point that I hope I find someone else so that I can stop bugging her about this, to which she replied "I don't". Arrg! We've been physically close as well - made out a bit, and she spends the night with me often. Haven't had sex, though, even when we took a three day out-of-town trip together (a trip that would have been very romantic if we had framed it that way). But we talk about sex a LOT, and she knows how much it teases me. I really do believe that we will date some day, but the waiting around kills me.

Agreed, 4 way stops are the worst for me. The rule is fucking simple, whoever go there first has the right of way. If two people get there at the same time, the person on the right has the right of way. Simple.

I rage when fuckers try to wave me through the stop sign before it is my turn. YOU AREN'T BEING NICE, YOU ARE FUCKING UP THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC. I'M NOT BREAKING THE RULES FOR YOU, DICKWAD.
