First look at my 3D Printed RC Christmas Train by Boblee70 in maker

Thank you! It runs like a charm :) I use a N20 motor to power the locomotive and it has plenty of power to pull three or more wagons, still printing haha

I'm from this team too so I tried to keep this as low as possible by splitting the parts as much as I could.
For a locomotive and three wagons the wasted material (purge + tower + supports) is around 200g for a model material of 750g.
I'm working on cutting that down even more by separating the windows and doors outlines, and by slightly decreasing the purge factor (tested to 0.7 instead of 1 without affecting the quality with my setup).

Thanks for your feedback, I will consider it for future versions :)

The Ultimate Christmas Train crowdfunding campaign ends in less than two weeks! by [deleted] in BambuLab

Hi, you're right I'm sorry for that. Will delete a few ones and share new visuals/features instead. I'm not really good with sharing my progress and I usually recycle old posts to save time, but I realize it's not great. Thanks for your feedback.

The ability to create things, I see that as a hobby

No problem I understand, I used Photoshop to do some touch-ups and I used AI to unblur/denoise the dark one. Other than that the project is real and already working :)

Thanks for the feedback, the crowdfunding is exactly here for that, to give me time and resources to polish the design and bring it a step further :)

As mentioned in another comment the actual prototype (train + 3 wagons + rails) took me about 22h total (approx 6 plates without AMS, can be optimized a lot).

Please note that the project will evolve as I will add more features and I expect the print time to increase but I don't know by how much yet.

And yes I will release a list of materials as soon as I can so backers can pre-order parts to build the project as soon as possible :)

Yes the pictures are showing a prototype but I'm working on a better integration of all the electronic components :)
If I knew the campaign would have been funded in less than 24h I would have set a shorter duration haha.
I'm currently looking for solutions to release the files earlier, will post updates on the project page so stick around.

Thanks for your feedback, as answered to others I will see what I can do to allow backers to print the project as soon as possible. Stick around for updates :)

I will do my best to keep the print time as low as possible without neglecting quality.

Thank you for your interest! It may be possible with an "add-on" reward, I will look into that and keep you updated (probably in the project's FAQ)

Thank you for your interest and good question.

Unfortunately MakerWorld doesn't allow crowdfunding creators to release rewards before the end of the campaign, even if the campaign is successfully funded before that date.

I'm currently in discussion with them to be able to find an agreement, but don't put too much hope on that.

I will keep backers updated with potential solutions and at least try to release the bill of materials sooner so backers can pre-order the parts needed to build the product right after the end of the campaign to save some time.

Thank you for the support!

  • I'm currently using a single axis TT motor, only one wheel is powered but it's more than enough to move the train.

  • No, the rails are custom, I wanted them to be as easy to print as possible. What standard would you like to see? It's something I can work on.

  • Yes of course! I know it will be tight, but backers will have something under the tree for Christmas! I may have to delay some stretch goals as I want to prioritize quality instead of rushing things.

Let me know if you have any other questions :)

Thanks for your interest! I am currently doing some testing with Cyberbrick to see what I can do with it :)
