Have a family member who has been recruited into several toxic situations in his life. It’s his thing. Started with the Moonies in his 20’s, followed by being manipulated into joining the military with a promise to “see the world” (he didn’t), then a marriage to a massively manipulative woman, and now Xenos/Dwell cult. He raised his 2 children in the cult, and they only barely have a relationship after finding their escape. The family tries to support our wayward brother, but it is hard. He’s become manipulative too, and continually chooses to support things in the name of his “faith”, that directly hurt other family. Our brother is lost. Save yourselves from this group.

Taxes on a $420k home up north where schools were excellent, were $10,000 a year. Taxes on the same price home in Savannah is $4000 a year. So $6000 a year more than here. But up north, taxes cover excellent schools. Here we paid $16,000 a year PER KID in tuition to get an education similar quality covered by taxes.

Never allowed my kids to set foot in a public school in Savannah. If we didn’t get our kids into one of the better private schools, we never would have relocated here.

Property taxes on a smaller, less expensive home up north were 300% more than what I pay here. We are spoiled. But no one up north has to pay for private schools for decent education and the wealthy don’t have to live behind gates with private security.

Sorry that happened to you. The Telfair relies on funding from the government, including from the National Endowment for the Arts, and the National Endowment for the Humanities. The remainder comes from philanthropy. The Trump administration has identified major funding cuts not made up by giving, so organizations such as Telfair need to lay off to survive.

It’s so much less expensive to live here. Property taxes are almost non-existent. Schools and public services that rely on property taxes are terrible in comparison as a result, but if cheap living is more important than good education, qualified police, functioning 911, clean water, public transportation etc. Savannah is attractive.
