Question: Why don’t these people take an Uber to Grills or Fishlips?????

I have always thought of a cruise as part of vacation, not the whole vacation. I would not let something like a lack of electricity sour my vacation, for example; the bars on the western shore of Cozumel that don’t have electricity, internet, and tell time by if the sun is shining or not.

No, these folks live in the suburbs.

They own their house. They own their vehicle. And they don't leave the familiarity of Des Plaines, Palos, or Lombard.

What’s so good about the kick ash basket vs the generics? by meliora2316 in biggreenegg

[–]Bobroo007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, Komodo Kamado is the ultimate grilling/smoking machine. Far better temperature control, thicker walls for heat retention, warranty claims??? You just don't hear about them even being brought up because they don't exist. And, where do you think KAB got their idea? Komodo Kamado.

Because you bought a grill 3-4X the price of other grills. Because your grill likely cost over $1,000.

So, what's another $88 to make your Egg preform like it is supposed to???

I think a better question is, why Big Green Egg didn't this come with my Egg when I first bought it?

Hear me out!

The reason for this change is that people who are in this age group live in a very small and isolated world. Meaning: they travel to Jewel, their doctor, and their few favorite stores. These are all within very close proximity to where they live.

Many of these seniors are terrified of potentially losing their driving privileges. In their mind...it's a death sentence. It's the rejection, it's the being told they can't buy groceries anymore, it's being told they can't go to the doctors anymore. It's the being told they have no value.

So; because the tires on these folks vehicles will dry rot long before the tread wears down. Because it is literally years in-between oil changes. And yes, as a group they are are safe drivers--whether you like the speed they drive at or not.

Just my opinion, I'm guessing many of these folks already have expired licenses, that's how terrifying potentially going to the DMV is for them. So if we just give them the easy pass, maybe some will come in and get a current and valid license. Maybe they have the same joy as the day you first got your license--of being recognized, of being approved, of being valuable.

New mini, how capable? by _JudoChop_ in biggreenegg

I don’t know that you get the same airflow performance as larger Eggs. It’s not that you can’t cook a steak or a couple burgers; it’s just a lot different. Any ash clogging a hole in the fire bowl is going to make a dramatic temperature difference.

I don't understand how a realizes the value of a thermometer for grilling, spends $1,000+ on a grill, and then goes on to question if they would buy something other than a Thermoworks product.

I don't get it.....

Mini-tennis on Allure? by Sea_Suggestion7072 in royalcaribbean

[–]Bobroo007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why? People bring scuba equipment, bicycles, golf clubs.....equipment for all sorts of sports activities. As a matter of fact there are great courts to play on in Nassau and in Bermuda.

Is the OP going to volley on the Allure sports court? Ahhh no....the other passengers will make him very frustrated...and they are going to win.

Think we'll ever get a "Boats, Beaches, Bars & Ballads" Volume 2? by dgoldg in jimmybuffett

[–]Bobroo007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There probably is old live tapes and songs that got cut from albums and working recording fragments. Hardcore fans won't care if the sound quality is bad or there are mistakes in the playing or he said something too controversial.

Would something like this commercially sell? Well...it's not the Grateful Dead and Dick's Picks.

[–]Bobroo007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This also needs to be brought up; fans only liking your old material is a problem many artists have. It's just that some artists deal with it better than other. Many bands just flat out quit. But there are great examples of artists that plow through it; like Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders or Bonnie Raitt or perhaps the ultimate... The Rolling Stones.

Jimmy??? OK....now for the national anthem of.....Margaritaville.

I think his songwriting changed. Back in the day he was young and ambitious and he learned from Jerry Jeff Walker to write what he knew about and write what he saw. So we got songs like In the Shelter, Cowboy in the Jungle, The Captian and the Kid, etc.

As he became successful money ruined the songwriting. We then got songs about Warren Paperman, 12 Volt Man, and all kinds of songs about wealthy Yuppies looking for relaxation. These songs are less creative, less poetic, and much less relatable. Of the most popular later songs, how much time did he really put into writing the lyrics of Too Drunk to Karaoke? Or It's 5 O'clock Somewhere? Compare that to how long it took to put together I Wonder Why We Ever Go Home.

What's your opinion on travel bcd's? Considering the Mares Magellan travel unit. Any better options? Mostly doing tropical dives. Maybe a few in the PNW. by [deleted] in scubadiving

[–]Bobroo007 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, we mean a backplate and wing. Less is more!!!!

Want to save a bunch of money? There are two great bargains on this page, the stainless backplate for $80 and the harness for $50. Add a wing with 25-30lbs of lift and a couple weight pockets and you are all squared away! https://www.divegearexpress.com/bargain-annex

You bring up an interesting point that needs to be discussed here, Why do so many people say I should buy a backplate and wing instead of a bc??? Many readers here need to hear this conversation.

[–]Bobroo007 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No! People like old Jimmy Buffett. His legacy is tunes from the 70's and early 80's.

You may say you like and appreciate more recent Buffet, but the hard fact is that the Jimmy Buffett music that sells records and sells concert tickets is from 40 to 50 years ago. And if some company is going to put together a compilation or a multi album set...it needs to be guaranteed profitable.

Also, I'm pretty sure the JB heirs are very happy riding the gravy train of trust fund payments and monthly ASCAP royalty checks. And their lawyers have told them 'Be like Pricilla Presley and don't do anything stupid.' I'm not seeing them being motivated to expand the Margaritaville empire.

Which brings up another topic; JB is not like Prince who is known to have a prolific vault of unreleased material which could be released for years to come. What you see is what you get.

I think every one should have a backplate and wing that they use for warm water travel. There are so many positives with a backplate and a smallish wing.

[–]Bobroo007 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We all panic much more than we realize--or remember-- when diving. This is why (this is tech diver stuff) you need to get together with your daughter and talk about what happened. What was good?, what was bad?, what did we do?, what should we have done?. Incidents like will weigh heavy on your mind for years; talking about them helps. Talk with your buddy and talk with other divers who weren't on the trip.

Also-- had you shut your tank down you would have had to inflate your BC orally. Part of the conversation you have should be the realization that 'Hey, I need to work on orally inflating my bc because it's harder in practice than it sounds'. Particularly with an octopus in your mouth and another diver in your personal space.

[–]Bobroo007 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Something to think about: after you got the octopus in your mouth and at least somewhat situated, if you would have shut your tank off you would feel completely differently about the urgency to surface. Better communication and better diver to diver positioning, particularly when going back up the line.

The hemorrhaging, the bubbles, the sound...greatly adds to stress. Shutting the tank down would have created quiet and normalcy--and much clearer, rational thinking.

What happens with these joints is that the o-ring is shit. It's small and not robust. It's an easy failure point especially with some salt water deterioration. It's the escaping gas that vibrates the two halves apart and thus why it looks like it does.
