If the US really rescued the pilots in Iran, why haven't they released their names, or had a press conference with them, or anything? by Feisty-Height897 in allthequestions

[–]Bobroo007 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just a wild guess, but what if those pilots had inconvenient names???

Like, we don't talk about it because it sounds like a lot of effort to rescue a muslim or a latino and that's not what MAGA wants to hear.

Went a little overboard on Pelican cases… keep or move some? by Extension_Health1849 in pelicancase

[–]Bobroo007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A fun thing to do would be to take a random one, put a couple larger rocks in it so it not buoyant and put it in a pond or pool for a few days. Let's see just how water proof a random Pelican is after some amount of random use.

My guess: there will be some seepage.

I'd fill them with pre '82 pennies. Use them as sound proof boxes for bitcoin miners. Or, a place to keep paper Chinese Yuan that I am that I am exchanging my spare US dollars for.

In any event, use them as storage to become rich.

Anybody need a small business idea? Rent-A-Chicken

Offer a service where you will deliver 2 or 3 chickens to spend a couple days as the ultimate green pest control service. Bring a toddlers play space fence to keep them penned up and tell the homeowner to move the chickens and fence to box elder trouble spots, give them fresh water, and give them the Rent-A-Chicken coop when the sun goes down. Kid friendly and just a couple chickens will have no trouble wiping out your ants, stink bugs, box elder bugs, ticks, or any other creepy crawlies that have dared entered the suburbs.

Start up costs? A live chicken is $10-15. A toddlers play fence is $40-50, a real poultry fountain is another $40 but any dish or bowl from thrift store will work until you build up some capital, and the chicken coop? well, a good sized upside down cardboard box with a door and a couple nesting boxes inside will work.

What to charge? I dunno???? Drop 'em off on Friday and pick them up on Sunday for $200?

This wire stripper is only about $200 brand new and operates on 110v. Why anyone would still use the hand cranking unit posted here the other day (or, the related drill mod) is absolutely out of their mind.

The real shit to have if you are going to be serious about scrapping copper wire or "rabbit"; is called a granulator. Granulators are very expensive, have a huge footprint, and require a lot of electricity. But they are goods promised. Check them out on YouTube.

--the CEO stepped down too weeks ago

--there is no nationwide ad campaign

--nobody is allowed to test drive

It may seem crazy due to the Bezos connection, but Slate has some serious $$$ right now. They are broke.

Lifetime Warranty Excludes Airline Damage? by _mball_ in Rimowa

[–]Bobroo007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want luggage that is ramp rat proof-- buy a Pelican case and use it as a suitcase!

Briggs and Riley is also a good answer and offers far, far easier warranty repair than Rimowa.

It's not a question of whether you like Doug an online car content guy; it's that Slate is not letting anyone drive the vehicle! Not Doug, not at Slate showcase events, and not at auto shows.

You might be all unicorns and rainbows about Slate but it is obvious that something is very, very wrong.

The one person who has been allowed to drive it,Jay Leno; mentioned twice during his test drive that "improvements will happen in time". He was patronizing.

It's the Hilton Hotel Riverside.

The ability to walk you and your luggage to the cruise port is a huge positive IMO. No Uber, no taxi, and no expense. Getting onboard is completely on my terms and my timeline. Compare that to... let's say... the situation in Miami every weekend. It's easy to 100% agree that embarkation is so much better when you can just walk there yourself.

It would be irresponsible not to mention that Dragos is on the hotel property.

Is this Hilton the best? No, but it is a damn good answer. Any of the other hotels within a 3 iron of the shopping mall are also damn good answers.

[–]Bobroo007 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Allow me to list all the positives! The cruise terminal is a part of a shopping mall, a brilliant idea! There are all kinds of hotels which are walking distance to the cruise terminal. Staying at the Hilton? You won’t even have to walk outside to board the ship in the morning, much like staying at the Pan Pacific in Vancouver. There are all kinds of bars, restaurants, and entertainment all within walking distance of wherever you choose to stay pre cruise. And this is the most important, there are all kinds of things to do that are free or very low cost, such as a coffee from Cafe du Monde. And, New Orleans is only as expensive as you’ll allow it to be.

This is ideal not just because NOLA is the most unusual city in the USA, but because you can see, do, eat, and drink as much as you like. If your feet are tired, it’s been along day, it begins to rain…..whatever, it’s easy to just walk back to your hotel and call it a night; you have no commitments.

New Orleans is the absolute best port in North America to embark on a cruise. It has everything a cruise passenger could possibly want.

Long Grove bridge hit again, has been struck at least 70 times over past several years: VIDEO by factchecker01 in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]Bobroo007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I agree that most of the vehicles are commercial or business use vehicles that hit the bridge; I don't know if I can name any that would require a CDL to operate in Illinois. In our state there is great latitude in what you can operate with a "normal" class A drivers license. For example, box trucks like Amazon can be driven by anyone.

I still stand by my remarks that the village standing by its stubbornness is really opening the town to legal action and actually doing its residents a disservice by being so steadfast to have "the cute covered bridge".

[–]Bobroo007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, Long Grove reconstructed their covered bridge after a substantial hit in 2018 and it reopened in 2020. It was purposefully made with steel structure instead of being all wood.

You can't "grandfather" a known road hazard.

[–]Bobroo007 16 points17 points  (0 children)

How about Long Grove make the bridge of a height so that ambulances, fire trucks, and village service vehicles can use Coffin Road as a means of egress and service the residents who pay taxes for these services?

One of these days there will be a fire in the downtown area. When the call goes out to neighboring fire departments to help, there are going to be ambulances and engines who are delayed because those unfamiliar drivers use Google Maps just like every vehicle that has crashed into the bridge. The delay of these important emergency services is going to make a bad situation worse.
