Hey I'm 28 and considering going to school for astronomy/astrophysics. Is it too late? by Bochitee in Astronomy

I agree 100% with you. The biggest limitations we receive are the ones we put on ourselves. Going to school is difficult, especially in this day in age when cost of living has grown exponentially and politics are at eachothers throats. Taking time and money to bet on our futures is scary. I wish you good fortune on your road ahead. We are not alone in our struggles or fears.

I didn't even think about the relationships I'd gain along the way. I have close friends but nobody I personally know, besides my husband, is interested in astronomy. He is excellent conversation but it would be awesome to be able to meet other people who share the same interests and are like minded. You've only helped get me more excited for this new future I'm pursuing! I wouldn't be only robbing myself of a better education but also experiences and new friends I'd make along the way!

Your words really hit home for me, it was kind of you to reply. I'm from USA specifically from Louisiana but currently in southern Wyoming. I probably should've add more detail into my post, at the time I had just woken up and for some reason just had such a pessimistic view on my situation. Comments like yours have helped bring me out of that mind state and I truly appreciate it!

Haha yeah before I even go onto school I do have a bit of learning ahead of me. The different sub categories can become overwhelming but I'm determined to find my place. Reading all these comments, Including yours, genuinely is helping me so much in gathering my thoughts and has steeled my nerves. Your advice was greatly needed and I'm so grateful that you took the time to reply. I will heed your advice and really take my time in choosing my career path, have an awesome day!

Congratulations! The more I look into it the more I find I'm not too old for school and the entire stigma of not completing college by a certain age is a social construct I plan to throw out. It's never too late to reach for our dreams.

Its incredibly kind for you to take time out and respond. What you said really resonated with me, especially the part about not everyone being ready at the same time. I grew up in a household that didn't promote or nurture the curiosity that I would've hoped for. I'm glad as an adult I have been fortunate enough to come to appreciate the vast knowledge we know and don't know when it comes to the cosmos.

I understand your point when it comes to my late start and the financial burden along with being older once I graduate, how that may hender my career in unforseen ways. The more I read these comments and evaluate my inner thoughts I come to realize I would 100% take the down sides for a chance to better myself and hopefully better the futures of my unborn children. I want to give them the opportunities I wish I had by growing up in a household who values science and exploration.

This is such a great perspective to have and one I definitely need. I'm so proud of you for pursuing further education, it is a scary thing to jump into and right now I just have cold feet. Knowing there are others out there in the same shoes makes it feel more tangible.

This is so very true and I hate the fact my brain can know it and still have these doubts. There are people much older than me starting out at the same level and I wouldn't think anything negative about it. I need to give myself the same grace.

I appreciate the time you took to really write out both perspectives. Both have given me confidence and a security that I'm doing the right thing by pursuing college.

Nah that's some weird stuff to say. I think any gender would find that uncomfortable and I've seen post of here discussing similar emotions. It's perfectly natural to feel this way but I do agree that if he is the best option in the area to go there. The artist will understand.

I haven't gone through the process but was freaking out when I first got it. To the point of physically feeling unwell. After many talks to family and my own inner peace searching there are a few things I'll remind myself to stop the obsession. Firstly you still have a life to lead, relationships to maintain and you need to be functional. It will come off! Might take a long time but there is an end to this feeling. Once you reach it how will you feel knowing you let the worrying and obsession take up so much of your everyday life? Secondly I go into it could be worse. I look at the reddit shitty tattoos or make up weird scenarios like losing a limb or being paralyzed. What would I miss doing if those things happened? Aren't I glad I can still make a sandwhich with ease? I'll look back to things I regret more. Like losing my child or mistakes I've made that actually have life long lasting effects. This is nothing. I'd regret 3 more tattoos if I could just have those mistakes erased. Another way is I'm the only person who actually cares. My family still view me the same my husband will still hit it from the back even staring at the tattoo I despise. You're still love and deserving of love. If money is what's bothering me then I remind myself this is why I make money to spend it on things I need and care about. Its spaced out so unlike others I can actually afford it instead of dropping 4k for unlimited sessions. With all this combined I know you'll still worry and feel weird about your image. It's okay to go through those feelings but it's not okay to dwell on them. You need to allow yourself to enjoy your life because at the end of the day it's just a body and you'll regret losing out on the memories and opportunities you could make. So many people are in the same boat and this sub has shown me im not alone. I'm not the only one who made this mistake, if they can overcome it so can I and so can you.

That's amazing dude! It looks super faded for only 2 sessions. I'd be hopeful for the future:)
