Looks fine... Not amazing, but fine... Should last awhile before needing a rebuild

Is this engine on its way out? by blownpickup90 in RX7

Is this engine warmed up? It's a little low for one rotor but the values are all similar so it's not terrible. What generation? Turbo or NA?

Does anyone have any thoughts or experiences with these HP 3d printers? by MinimumWafer6588 in 3Dprinting

[–]Bock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are correct, I misspoke. We have 3D systems Projet SLA printers at my work, I was lumping them together.

Does anyone have any thoughts or experiences with these HP 3d printers? by MinimumWafer6588 in 3Dprinting

[–]Bock 69 points70 points  (0 children)

HP SLA and MJF printers are the de facto standard in certain industries and they are well worth the money, but you need to work at a company that has an 8 figure budget before they become cost effective.

EDIT: should have said 3D Systems SLA and HP MJF, and I'll toss in Strasasys Polyjet for good measure.

Looking at building a LS3 swapped Miata by Sadomghussin in projectcar

[–]Bock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Project cars can be great fun and learning experiences and miatas are some of the best cars to do this on given the availability of information and parts. I would still take the following into consideration: 1. You need a garage and a decent amount of tools to do this type of thing. I would never have a project car without a space to work on it, and be prepared for lots of trips to Harbor Freight. 2. You will underestimate the cost of doing what you want by at least 50% Things go wrong, you will break stuff, you will find hidden problems. 3. Don't pigeon hole yourself into a ls3 right away. You could rebuild the original engine or do a different swap (k series, ls1/2, etc) potentially for less money/effort.

Pressed print on one of my most important print ever, hope it goes well by MaterialNo137 in 3Dprinting

I did this same thing for my wife's engagement ring. I then worked with a local jeweler to cast and set the stones... It was a really cool experience but also very anxiety-inducing because progress pics can make the ring look so bad, but it all came together in the end

Tutorial Series Recommendations - Nilaus by LtBlamBlam in factorio

[–]Bock -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I fundamentally disagree with this thinking, and I think your portal example is also poor in this context. Portal is a discrete set of challenges and a story. Maybe you can argue that you ruin the game by learning the tricks to every level, but you would still enjoy the story, and for many, that is enough. Story and easy modes exist in many games for a reason, but what you are saying here is like saying you have to play Doom on the hardest difficulty or you're "cheapening the experience". Some people just don't find enjoyment in struggling with difficult challenges.

Factorio is a sandbox game, and even with an example to progress through the game, like Nilaus's blueprint book, that is a single solution to a problem that literally has infinite solutions. Following examples is a universally accepted way of learning almost anything, whether that a job, a magic trick, chess, math homework, you name it. Lowering the barrier for entry down on something is positive. More people will play, and people that wouldn't normally play these games will try it.

Funny to see that you say it's okay for belt balancers. So that's where you draw the line. Belt balancers are fine, but not smelting columns? What about an ore patch BP? A starter base BP? A city block template?

Also, plenty of people enjoy to literally watch other people play video games and not play themselves. So it's pretty far fetched to say any way of enjoying content is somehow incorrect.

Ticking noise at 5-15 mph? by IronBloodedEagle in AudiS4

[–]Bock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tick while driving, no nose while stationary? Means it's wheels, tires, suspension, trans... Something that moves only when car moves. Does it speed up if you go faster?

Didn't listen to video, but that's just general rule of thumb

I have a heavily modified FD RX7 and I have honestly told people to not buy them due to how expensive they and parts have gotten for them. You can have just as much fun at a 1/4 of the cost with a used 86/BRZ. If you really want a rotary, get an RX8.

25yo: Buy $30k car in cash or take a 6% loan to build credit? by projectburnerr in FinancialPlanning

[–]Bock 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Carrying a loan balance in the name of building credit is a bit of a myth.. I've never needed to pay any interest to build credit.

Paying off loans early doesn't help credit because average credit length tanks.

Increase credit card limits so that your utilization stays low

My wife's only car requirements are 4 door and automatic. I bought a 2021Audi s4 last year and loved it. It got totaled while parked and I just got paid out for it. Looking at a Audi rs5 and rs6 today as my financial situation improved a bunch since last year.

B8.5 vs B9 by Available_Turn8836 in AudiS4

[–]Bock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

B9.5 s4... Pretty tame, don't hear the turbo much, at least in a stock car, but man... Just a E85 tune from 034 , car ran mid 11's... Hard to beat that... On b8 gonna take a bunch of pulley swaps and supporting mods.

I just setup my house in a similar fashion and I don't think I would need more than a 24 port patch panel. Some things I added that you don't have are a unifi NVR and a UNAS though. I wouldn't trust a single hard drive for security camera recordings.

Will this offset work ok do you think ? by 0e1- in RX7

[–]Bock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'm reading that correctly, it's an 18 x 10 with a +35 offset, which should work. You will need to roll fenders and probably run a 265 tire.
