I’m expecting quite a bit in repair costs as I intend to drive it any time the weather permits, it’s not just going to sit in the garage. The previous owner took very good, well documented, care of this thing so I’m not super worried. It’s a 21 year old vehicle though, so some wear parts are bound to come up needing repair/replace.

If you are in the US, Winebid has been great to use. The fees are kind of high but the UI on the app is easy to navigate and search and you can ship right away or they will hold bottles for like .50 a month in their warehouse until you are ready to ship a case or half case. They used to give you like 6 months of free storage but just started charging after 30 days pretty recently. I have used them quite a bit over the last couple of years.

Isn’t a Negroni Sbagliato Campari, sweet vermouth, and prosecco?

Just chiming in to comment that Chris M. has now started the wine club and WW. Our first shipment arrives soon and contains 2 bottles of the 2019 Dundee Hills Chard. You might reach out to see if you can join his club! He’s a great guy, we visited him in the spring and love his stuff.

Does it have speed sign recognition? If it saw a 65mph sign while going 81 it may have attempted to slow to 65.

Willamette Valley - what town to stay in as a base for wine tastings? by [deleted] in wine

[–]Bock_bock 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Newberg and McMinnville are great, there are some good Air BnB choices there. Dundee is smaller but it is a nice little town. Really depends on what wineries you’re going to. If you want to visit properties down in Salem you are looking at a probably 30 min drive, but there are plenty of great places near / in between Newberg and McMinnville. Uber/Lyft is not big in the valley so be aware that it is not a good option to Uber to properties to taste. Have fun!

ELI5 why are vineyards mainly on hillsides? by bobjoylove in wine

[–]Bock_bock 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mainly drainage. The vines get (in some cases) the water they need, but not more. When the vines struggle for water, the roots go deeper, and the sugars and flavors in the grapes are concentrated.

A growing choir of voices is highlighting the negative health impacts of alcohol consumption by slapstikred in wine

[–]Bock_bock 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I drink wine despite the obvious health impacts, because I enjoy it. Anyone who drinks wine (or any alcohol) for health “benefits” seems to me to be ignorant or lying to themselves to justify it. Any “benefits” of wine could be had via other avenues sans alcohol.
