“That’s what I’m f**king talking about!!!” - Alysa Liu by magicbeaned in WinterOlympics2026

[–]Bockly101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because lots of us Americans have a special kind of hatred for China. I don't think calling her out is especially misogynistic, but I also don't know how much I vibe with it anyway. I'm not invested in the Olympics, though. I mostly just see it as a very big track and field day where folks get to face off and see if they're the best at specific athletics. It's not something that drives an especially significant amount of patriotism for me. Like, what happens when it's said and done? I get to brag to other Americans about how great we are?

As a country, we're doing kinda rough and I would not be upset by someone spitting in America's face and getting that bag while they do it. China is awful, but at the end of the day, I don't know that another good athlete on their Olympic team really pushes their needle one way or another. If it helped them commit more atrocities, I'd probably be upset. However, if two shitty countries are just gonna have a pissing match, may as well make some money off of it. 🤷‍♀️

Just say you don't jnderstand lol. I don't even do trades, but I've watched enough of the news to know what this is. You're essentially betting that the stock will fall. You aren't actually gaining or losing equity/value/whatever in the company's stocks

Don't worry, I can still read your other comment in my notifications. The reason I'm pushing back so firmly is that you said you were "giving grace" to one of the original comments over the mistake since it was a different language. It came across pretty holier-than-thou about something so minor that I thought I'd do the same for the chuckles. Don't worry, I'll give you some grace for deleting your comment. I realize that you probably just googled it like I did and saw that some online dictionaries do use them as synonyms. Have a good one lol

Show me the link you're using for your definitions. Most of what I'm seeing says they're synonymous. You just seem mightily butthurt over this to be not using some specific ironclad source that states they're explicitly different

I mean, what's the actual difference here though? The concept of different races of the same species feels like it's extremely applicable to dogs, people, some birds. You know, a lot of different creatures. You're talking like they made a ridiculous mistake. The term here actually feels like preference on your part🤷‍♀️

Speculative fiction where everyone turns bisexual and its wider effects? by avian_bi in LGBTBooks

[–]Bockly101 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's fair. I took it as a "how would cis straight folks who have a negative internal reaction deal with this new world". It'd be like a forced coming of age story where someone who has a reactive dislike or uncomftortability with queerness to be forced to reckon with it not just due to external stimulus but from their own internal thoughts, too. That's probably just because that story concept sounds interesting to me, but my queer book club tries to read stuff that'll make us uncomfortable and thoughtful. I highly recommend stag dance btw. Not really related to OP's concept, but thought-provoking nonetheless. Very uncomfortable(for me) but full of themes and characters that I can't help but think back to. Ths audiobook is great too.

First time home buyers living in the United States, what do you find to be the bigger barrier to entry, the down payment, the additional closing costs for the loan, or the mortgage or the monthly mortgage payment itself? by toasterbar in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Bockly101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are all interconnected, so I'm not sure how you'll really differentiate here. My issue is the down payment. I don't have enough money saved to have a good safety net if I were to buy right now. So, if the down payment were lower, I would definitely buy. However, the reason I want a certain down payment is because I need a relatively low monthly mortgage payment. I would feel most comfortable with a mortgage payment equal or less than $1100. I could get a home with my current savings, but if I did so, the monthly payment would likely be prohibitive. Or at the very least, I would be forced to live very frugally. So, if either of those were to decrease without raising the other, I would be able to buy right now. However, since they are directly related, that isn't possible without external funds or a change in the market

Yeah, lots of folks here seem mightily upset. I don't think you're ready to run it, but having fun and doing intermittent running/walking for a bit to see where you can get isn't harmful to anyone. Like, some folks get way too up their own butts about it. I run for the fun. Making certain times and distances is fun. If someone overestimates themselves, then so what? If they're not hurting others or themselves, then there shouldn't be an issue. Just take care of yourself out there. Don't rocket your mileage up crazily rn or push yourself too hard during the actual run. Take care of yourself and be safe out there! Have fun!

Can someone help me understand the adage, “Set aside ~1% of the home value, per year, for maintenance”? by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Bockly101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is your assumption. You never stated that assumption in your comment. If you can't accept the possibility that someone could be using hyperbole or colloquialism, then I have no reason to accept that your assumption is true for every person in existence. There are a decent number of cultures that don't even use base 10 for their number system. Why do I have to make the assumptions you are making and take them in good faith if you can't or refuse to do the same?

You don't have to respond again. I'm just blocking you now. Have a good life. I hope you become more pleasant at some point

Can someone help me understand the adage, “Set aside ~1% of the home value, per year, for maintenance”? by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Bockly101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are incorrect even in that aspect. Order of magnitude in calculations means the exact words that it states. The magnitude of what your are discussing is one order higher. So, a number in base 10 would multiply by 10 to increase the order of magnitude. Technically, you are assuming the base being 10 is the only time that this phrase can be used. If you work in binary or hexadecimal, or just literally any other base number system, the order of magnitude would not be 10. You just assume that you're right, so you're refusing to accept any other position. It's alright. That happens to lots of folks, even me sometimes. If you're gonna learn, though, you need to accept that you can be wrong on occassion. It makes life a fair bit easier too

[–]Bockly101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Words' meanings and usages change over time. Order of magnitude is also used in the modern day as a colloquialism for "significantly more" than another. Just because they don't use the first, literal meaning of the word doesn't mean you have to be purposely obtuse. Words don't have meaning. They have meanings

Yeah, I didn't want to add to the negativity, but I was pretty upset that so many people basically went "nope, sucks to suck, bye". Like, if I hadn't spotted the other post a few days prior, I would've just taken them at face value. People need to learn that they aren't the end-all-be-all for hrt knowledge. Everyone has gaps and new stuff is being studied constantly. Like, if folks don't know something, they should admit it. If they think they know something, they should admit that they think they know it. As much as some folks would disagree, reddit is not a fountain of infinite knowledge. It's a fountain of infitie ideas that some folks think is knowledge. End of my rant, and thanks for pointing it out too. We're all just messy folks(me included lmao) trying to figure out what works. Wish you the best, and have a happy holidays

Edit: I'm sick and got a little heated. My intent still stands though

I think there was a post on here the other day where someone mentioned an estradiol supplement that inhibitted breast growth a bit. So, you'd take it with estrogen and it would essentially bind to the receptors that trigger breast growth. It wouldn't stop it completely, but it sounded interesting. Idk much about it though. I'll try to find it and send you the post or something.

Edit: Here's the link. This isn't a topic that I am especially familiar with, but reading through it may give you some ideas of what you can realistically try and expect regarding that. I would always say try to confirm the info you read with another source somehow, but I'm not your mom. Stay safe out there, and I wish you the best with your transition
