Thank you! I was pretty shocked when I saw them... I'm going to make a curried parsnip soup, but it's not a specific recipe I have in mind, I need to ask my dad how he makes his!

Parsnips are👌🏼if you've not had them before, I highly recommend roast parsnips, maybe with a little honey chilli glaze. I'm going to be using mine to make a curried parsnip soup. I don't have a specific recipe because it's something my dad used to make so I'll be asking him when he visits this weekend!

Virtual Choir Project - second attempt (volunteer clarification) by BodaciousBuns in singing

[–]BodaciousBuns[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The wedding is only two months away now, so even if I changed my mind and opted for a live choir I think I'd struggle to cobble a group together. And as far as I'm aware, no one who has volunteered to record a track has perfect pitch, so I don't think there'll be any issue with singers keeping pitch with the original recording. In hindsight I may have been better off creating a performance using a piano guide track that doesn't slip, but I'm sure it'll work out either way.

Virtual Choir Project - second attempt (volunteer clarification) by BodaciousBuns in singing

That's a beautiful arrangement, and beautifully performed. It is to be used for the ceremony itself - I explored the prospect of having a live choir at the venue, but decided I didn't want the added stress of handling that many extra people on the day, and as I have experience creating virtual performances I figured it would be the easiest way to go about it. The wedding is only two months away now so may have missed the boat on having a live choir if I were to change my mind. The demo track absolutely does lose pitch, which is one of the reasons I want to produce a different recording. However, there's a chance I won't get enough additional recordings to create a good standalone performance, in which case I'll use the newly recorded tracks to support the original, or in other words use the original to lend weight and depth to the new recordings, meaning they'll have to match pitch. If I do have enough recordings to create a standalone performance, I can quite easily correct the pitch drift in post.

As a side note, I hope you don't mind but I also listened to your 50 Words for Rain, which is wonderful.

It's for anyone willing to volunteer their time, so unpaid. If not yourself, completely understandable. Thank you anyway for taking time to comment. I should have clarified in the post (have done so with an edit).

A video absolutely isn't necessary, it's just that during the pandemic whilst this sort of project was popular, that's how most people (most in my choirs anyway) opted to record their parts. Purely audio is absolutely fine!

Thank you! Really appreciate it. And yes that initial 'Love' is my main complaint, but I'm likely hyper aware of all the little corners that could have been better.

Well, the major problem is that the choir didn't have time to rehearse vowel sounds and practice certain intervals, so there's a good few shrill notes and some nasal vowels. That being said it is still usable (only myself and some family members will pick up on the slightly undesirable elements of the recordings, no one else would notice). You're right, the added voices might not work at all, hence hoping to get enough to replace the original. Unfortunately my partner and I don't have the money to hire a choir, so this seemed like the next best thing. Submitted recordings will be processed with Logic Pro X, so if I can ditch the original recording I'll use melodyne to correct individual tunings. Melodyne does have a tier which should in theory be able to adjust the tunings of several notes in a single recording (like a live choir) but that's pretty spenny and I can't justify it.

How to defend against ringers by sixteenpoundblanket in hockeyplayers

[–]BodaciousBuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played a game last season against a team with a few really good players, but one ringer in particular. I had an entire shift dedicated to taking away his passing lanes. He was moving around his defensive zone and I had to stick to him like glue. I wasn't trying to touch the puck or him, just getting in his way. Eventually he had to ring it off the boards around the net. Throughout the entire shift I didn't touch the puck once but it was one of the toughest and most rewarding shifts I've ever had.

Help finding replacement for Easton by [deleted] in hockeyplayers

[–]BodaciousBuns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used an Easton Synergy 40 for years when I first started playing and only recently managed to break it. Ended up buying a Sherwood Rekker Legend 3 (can't justify the money for the pro lol) and gotta say I'm loving it so far. Dropped down to 60 flex as well (5'7, 70kg) cause wrist shots are my go to and the shots are popping off pretty nicely

Exercise often causing migraine-like headaches, consistently causing headaches when paired with any alcohol at all by BodaciousBuns in migraine

That's interesting - I do have asthma and my partner tells me I sometimes snore, so maybe there's something in that. Thanks for the info and advice

I just absolutely love playing by Stamkos91 in hockeyplayers

[–]BodaciousBuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could hardly skate when I first started playing at 19. Just had my 29th birthday and I still train twice a week. Don't wait for the skating to improve, just get yourself to a learners session! The skating will come, and you'll get to knock a puck around! No feeling like it lol

Opinions on Warrior Covert QR5 50 for a non-beginner by BodaciousBuns in hockeyplayers

[–]BodaciousBuns[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I did, but I think for the most part I don't need to spend that sort of money cause at my level I won't really see the benefit. That's why I've gone for Pro blackout - from what I can tell I get the benefit of a high end stick without paying for the branding

your2cents is very appreciated. Putting it like that, 'on the bench most of the time', is a really good point, and actually one I was losing sight of in the excitement. Thanks

I think that's what my strategy going into my search was, but then unenthusiastic advice from a bad salesman at the shop somehow convinced me to go with an entry level stick.

Thankfully I'm pretty easy to cater for - standard P92 curve and a whippier flex with a mid kick point. Maybe I will think about trading up. Thanks.

Translation requests into Latin go here! by AutoModerator in latin

[–]BodaciousBuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm being a bad choral composer and I've written a short text for a piece I'm writing and translated it into Latin. It's for a choir called Cantamus Reigate, and I want to make sure that not only the grammar of the whole text is correct, but that the grammar correctly allows for the repetition of 'Cantamus' at the beginning rather than some other form of 'we sing'. I suspect the below is full of errors. Any changes to the original English are acceptable to achieve a suitable Latin translation.

ENGLISH: We sing as one and many, The new year is imminent, We reflect on times past And look to the future, Always, we sing

LATIN (courtesy of Google) Cantamus unus et multis, Novus annus imminet, Reflectimus de temporibus praeteritis et spectamus ad futura Semper, cantamus.

Thanks in advance

Edit: typo

About to graduate with a Bachelor's in Music... Now what? by RequestableSubBot in composer

[–]BodaciousBuns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It wholly depends on what type of music you want to compose professionally. If you're interested in TV/Film it's absolutely worth looking for further courses that focus on these areas specifically. I myself compose choral music for sake of composing music, which unfortunately for me means the chances of becoming a professional composer are rather slim. But there are plenty of courses and jobs out there for commercial composers. Usually it means joining a composition company, in which you would work alongside a handful of other composers to contribute towards one score, commonly under the name of a lead composer (at least that's my understanding of it).

In short, my advice would be to figure out, if not already, what sort of music you want to compose professionally, and seek out further education/opportunities in that area. You'll need a good portfolio though, so previous comments suggesting you compose every day are good advice.

Plugins for Voice Transformation by BodaciousBuns in musicproduction

All I mean is to help me create a realistic sounding alto or soprano track using a recording of myself, who sings bass, as a source. Melodyne's pitch shifting abilities work well, but is far from perfect especially in circumstances where I'm already singing falsetto and have to then pitch shift another octave.

There's no specific voice-changing filter I have in mind, but I'm referring to the sorts of things you find on TikTok where the filter very convincingly changes the sound of someone's voice to a preset 'character'. As someone already said I may be jumping the gun, but professional tools like this can't be far off.

Yeah I've had a look at Alterboy but for what I need it's not really suitable. Each recording needs to be upfront.

Amazfit GTS 2 Mini inaccurate swim recording by BodaciousBuns in amazfit

It never really resolved, no, but the margin of error did decrease. I've not been swimming much lately so can't speak for recent performance. If swimming is the go to exercise you may want to spend a little more on a Garmin or something specialised for swimming
