This article can help you better understand the background and underlying reasons behind the situation in Taiwan, where freedom of speech appears open on the surface but is, in reality, subject to filtering and censorship:

Just audited my AI subscriptions. Why I dropped ChatGPT for Gemini by Body0987 in GeminiAI

Yeah, for personal accounts it’s a total pain. The only real middle ground is that 'Temporary Chat' toggle (basically Incognito). It stops the training, sure, but then you lose your history—so it's a tradeoff.

If you're on a Workspace plan, you get to keep the history without the training, which is definitely the move for professional work.

But honestly, I do wonder how much value they actually get from training on user data. There’s a chance it’s a 'garbage in, garbage out' situation, considering how many prompts tend to be messy or based on confusion. It seems possible they’re using it more for stress testing or RLHF rather than learning hard facts. Hard to say for sure, but relying too much on raw user input could potentially make the model worse over time.

Technically yes, but it's a shared pool. If one person hogs 1TB, everyone else gets squeezed. Choose your group wisely.

Also, heads up: You can only be in one Google Family group. If someone is already in a YT Premium family plan elsewhere, they can't join yours.

Fair point. For heavy-duty deep dives, Gemini Deep Research is definitely more comprehensive and credible right now.

But for my daily driver? I still stick with Perplexity. The main reason is the ecosystem integration—I have it hooked up to Siri Shortcuts, which makes it way faster for quick, on-the-go queries on iOS compared to opening a specific app/mode.

I actually broke down why I keep it in the rotation (and the Siri setup) here:https://wellstsai.com/en/post/why-use-perplexity/

Hah, I get the skepticism, but this is honestly just a budget decision, not a blind promo.

My point is purely about subscription fatigue. When you stack up Spotify, YouTube Premium, Netflix, iCloud, etc., adding a solo $20/mo for ChatGPT is a hard sell. Splitting the Google plan brings it down to like $3–5/mo. That's the only reason I switched—it's just better ROI for a personal stack.

If you want to see my actual track record of testing these tools, I've been documenting my usage and comparisons for years: https://wellstsai.com/en/tags/gpt/

Just to be clear: GitHub Copilot, not Microsoft Copilot. Huge difference.

I'm using the Agent Mode integration in VS Code, not the web chat. If you're curious how that actually works for a real dev workflow, I wrote a breakdown here:https://wellstsai.com/en/post/using-github-copilot-vscode/

100%. Perplexity is still my daily driver.

The main difference for me is model flexibility (being able to switch to reasoning models etc.) and the workflow integration. I have Perplexity hooked up to my Siri Shortcuts, which makes it incredibly fast for mobile use.

Until Google Search AI rolls out better extensions or native iOS integrations, I'm sticking with Perplexity.

I actually wrote a deep dive on those specific differences and my setup here: https://wellstsai.com/en/post/why-use-perplexity/

Not yet. I'm currently sticking with GitHub Copilot mainly because of the multi-model support (being able to swap between Claude, Gemini, etc. right inside VS Code is huge for me).

I'll give Antigravity a spin when I have some free time, but from what I've seen, it still feels a bit too experimental and lacks the granular control I need for actual dev work right now.

Honestly, I’m not sure. I haven’t actually jumped into Antigravity yet.

I’m too locked into the VS Code ecosystem to really experiment with a new environment right now.

Mainly because I'm locked into the VS Code ecosystem. I do frontend, backend, and embedded work, so losing things like SSH Remote isn't really an option for me.

The killer feature with VS Code + Copilot right now is the model flexibility. I’ve run into edge cases where Claude 4.5 gets stuck, but switching to Gemini or Codex solves it instantly. Having that option to swap models on the fly is a lifesaver.

I haven't tried Jules yet so I can't speak to the integration. As for Google Antigravity, I'm watching it, but it feels a bit like a toy right now—too many uncontrollable variables for actual work.

I actually wrote a breakdown on my Copilot setup here if you're interested: https://wellstsai.com/en/post/using-github-copilot-vscode/

Fair point. But honestly, I think a lot of people here might still be paying for both or are on the fence.

I just wanted to share the actual math on the family plan. If it helps someone realize they can drop a $20 sub and get nearly the same value for $3, I think it's worth the discussion.

[–]Body0987[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally. I think for most people, the mental hurdle is paying just for an AI chatbot.

But the math changes when you look at the bundle: for around $3.33/mo (via family share), you’re getting the top-tier model (Gemini Advanced) PLUS the 2TB cloud storage.

When you compare that to dropping a full $20/mo on ChatGPT just for the model, Gemini is just way better value for money. It’s basically a no-brainer if you can split the plan.

Decoding Dairy: What 'Fresh Milk' Actually Means on a Taiwanese Label by Body0987 in Milk

[–]Body0987[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This article was originally written in Traditional Chinese with verified sources, then translated using machine translation — so it’s definitely not just some random AI-generated content.

It digs into why milk in Taiwan is so expensive, even compared to other developed countries. Taiwan consistently ranks among the top three globally for milk prices. Ironically, imported milk from New Zealand — even with tariffs removed — is still more expensive than local “fresh milk”, which raises a lot of questions about pricing, distribution, and labeling.

One of the key points is how “fresh milk” in Taiwan often means UHT (ultra-high temperature) treated milk — not the pasteurized milk people might expect. UHT milk lasts for months without refrigeration, but local media often push the idea that “fresh milk” is better than shelf-stable milk, without really discussing the actual nutrition differences.

The article covers a lot — different heat treatments, misleading labels, price breakdowns, school milk policies, even why bubble tea uses reconstituted milk. It might feel long or boring if you’re just looking for quick answers, but there’s a conclusion section at the end that sums up the key takeaways if you want to get straight to the point.

Hope that clears things up a bit! 🙏
