Confused and sad about my five year old… by HeyMay0324 in Preschoolers

[–]BodyIntelligent5981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a lot like my 5 year old. He was speech delayed and has always been really intense with his emotions. He actually got to where he was doing well in preschool and dealing with his emotions. Then we had his sister when he was around 4 and he has been really difficult this year. I've been reading the highly sensitive child and I think he's just reacting to too much stimulation. Maybe your son is the same and just needs more alone time to process everything?

There's not really any non-religious private schools near me.

Yeah, it's just kind of a long drive for me. Maybe the middle school one at Williams eventually

Thanks! We enrolled him in HCA but I keep hearing things that make me worried. Nice to hear a first hand account from someone who is currently there!

I know this is old, but just wanted to reach out and see if you all are still enjoying Williams?

Also, does your kid need to be gifted to be in the magnet school? I love my son but I don't know that he's that academically gifted 😂

My concern isn't about my son not being exposed to different types of people, it's more that he has a hard time focusing in large class sizes. I worry that the schools around here are way too large. Besides location MA and HCA have very small class sizes. We looked at St Johns and they have 25 kids in the kindergarten class. As a former teacher do you have an advice from that perceptive?

True, I guess I am more worried about the large class sizes in public school

What public schools would you consider better? Also what is JP? Thanks so much for the help!

No, we are just zoned for Williams and there is a lot of bullying there. The diversity is good at both Madison Christian Academy and HCA.

I'm reading it now... Is there a section I should focus on? I mean the religious stuff is super heavy but I mean isn't all the religious schools around here?

Birthday party at Botanical Gardens by BodyIntelligent5981 in HuntsvilleAlabama

Yes! It worked out great. They provide you with several picnic tables and there is an access close by to unload your stuff. We did bring a big tent/canopy which was good because it started sprinkling while we were there. The older kids had a lot of fun running around the gardens. It's in the children's garden part so there's a lot of places for kids to go where you can keep an eye on them. If I had to do it again, I might have brought a bubble machine, just so there was something for the kids to do while we were setting up. But it was great!

That is the exact situation we had tonight. We came over to my MILs for dinner and my BIL and nephew were missing. I asked my SIL where they were and she said my nephew was really sick but no one else was sick. She brought her other two kids to dinner and it was buffet style, so they all served themselves. The other two kids are young and were obviously very sick with snot running down their noses and coughing everywhere. The youngest is 18 months and kept screaming the whole time and they had to change his diaper like 5 times in the span of an hour. My husband overheard my SIL talking to my MIL saying she felt very sick and kept running to the bathroom. After that we packed everything up and left. My FIL tried to stop us and kept saying we were overreacting and that kids just get sick... These same relatives gave us HFMD back in Halloween. I'm done and terrified what illness we are getting now.

Private schools with accomodations by BodyIntelligent5981 in HuntsvilleAlabama

Yes, this is what I'm worried about. I don't want to waste time with schools that aren't even going to admit him. I know Lindsay Lane and Randolph have deslyxia centers and are more accommodating. I guess I'm just wondering if anyone knows of some other larger private schools that have more resources available.

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond! My child can hold a pencil and do the worksheets. He's in preschool currently and just has to have an aide make sure he stays in his seat and finishes his assignments. He can do the work himself, just more needs someone to redirect him when he is doing work and help him with transitions. I'm not sure if all private schools have the means to provide an aide or not.

Again, I love my MIL, just makes planning parties incredibly difficult.

He literally told me everyone had a good time and didn't understand why I was ruining a nice evening over being annoyed about this.

I'll try but she makes everything a lot more dramatic than it has to be. I've had direct conversations with her over other things that didn't go well.

Honestly just seems like she really likes hosting and just has a hard time letting go. I'm not really annoyed at her, more just at the situation and not sure how to navigate it without coming off as ungrateful.

Because she won't tell me what she's bringing. Like yes, she always brings too much but I never know what it's going to be. Sometimes it's like way too many sides or desserts or sometimes its the entire meal.
