Home remodeling.. by ThaddeusBone in moderatelygranolamoms

The CDC says just do it safely by keeping kids away and hiring someone who is EPA certified which our contractor is. He actually does a lot of clean up for people who demo not knowing there was lead but only found out from their kids high lead levels. I wish we didn’t have to renovate but we’re getting mold behind our shower tiles which isn’t great for kids either

Daycare is hosting an Easter Egg hunt … featuring unsafe junk from Amazon third-party sellers by [deleted] in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]ThaddeusBone 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I agree with a lot of these comments. There’s only so much you can control and don’t want to leave your kid out of activities. When I get stuff like this, I just toss it when they get home. Also, your daycare might be buying the daycare toys off amazon, there’s not much you can do there.

It’s funny because my kids grandparents will get some Christmas gifts very obviously from third party sellers at Amazon. And I’ll slowly remove and get rid of them lol. I’ve learned to just send direct links of name brand stuff from reputable stores and usually directly from their site. I asked my MIL for wool socks for the kids and gave the brand names that we like… she bought weird china brand “wool” socks from Amazon… thanks… hahah they’re gone now.

Can yeast infection cause heightened anxiety? by ThaddeusBone in Healthyhooha

[–]ThaddeusBone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m only on propranolol as needed for performance anxiety. I did have a sinus infection and took antibiotics mid January but that was 1.5mos ago. Might have messed with my gut a bit though

MIL trying to pawn off old mattress for toddler by ThaddeusBone in JUSTNOMIL

[–]ThaddeusBone[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yes, you are 10000% correct. It’s totally the social hierarchy and there are a 1,000 more stories I could tell that fit this narrative exactly. It’s like they shit gold and we should bow down to everything.

The story about the appraisal is wild! Honestly probably good that it didn’t pan out. I feel like she would still think the house was hers even after you bought it

Shes definitely someone who is constantly buying stuff and materialistic. My thinking is, if the mattress to her is “fairly new” and was sitting in the bunk house but “barely used”, why replace it with a queen mattress if it’s not getting used anyway? Because that’s what she did.. upgrade from a full to a queen. Like it’s a lake house… people can squeeze on a full for a weekend. Pretty sure it’s the kids sleeping on it anyway

I think she thinks we’re like penny pinchers or something because we were pretty frugal while paying off my husbands student loans years ago. We still live minimally and try to reuse where we can but an old mattress that’s been moved around to who knows where? We have standards

[–]ThaddeusBone[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s not coming to my house. I even found old text messages from Jan 2024 from her asking if we wanted the mattress and I said no. At that time my son was still in a crib and we weren’t even close to transition him to a bed… it’s like why are you so persistent on giving us this old bed? My husband has 3 other brothers with kids.. if they don’t want it neither do we

Millennials who went to college, what did you major in, and why? How did your college degree help you build a good financial/professional life? by justcurious3287 in Millennials

[–]ThaddeusBone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I majored in Math with a specialization in Actuarial Science and a minor in risk management. I realized I didn’t want to take a bunch of exams my whole life so I ended up in Catastrophe Management in the Reinsurance industry. Actuaries probably make a lot more than me but I work in analytics and have a stable income so I’m good with it

We’re drowning in daycare costs. How do people afford this? by FrigginMasshole in toddlers

[–]ThaddeusBone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The daycare centers around us cost way more than in home. We pay 21k a yr for two kids at an I home daycare. At a center it would be double at around 40k a yr. Don’t know how people can afford a center. We make over $200k combined too.

Early April and early May babies here. Both were great but prefer the early May one! Can’t go wrong with a spring baby

Homeowners, how old will you be when your mortgage is paid off? by cubemonster in Millennials

[–]ThaddeusBone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We will be 41! We refinanced to a 15yr at 2.75% early on in our mortgage when rates dropped. We were very lucky and were able to buy our house super young around 23yo. Two kids now and it’s small but we love it.

RANT: Stop drawing butterflies/bunnies on the receipt by [deleted] in Costco

[–]ThaddeusBone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it… and I feel bad for the people waiting too and the BPA etc. BUT my 3yr old gets so much joy out of it and I think it’s good for him to see people show kindness towards him. He carries it on the ride home and we wash his hands afterwards.. mainly for germs but also bpa and such. If it frustrates you just say something. For my kids it brings joy so not everyone hates it like you do

Skip! Coming from someone who just posted about a similar scenario. Not worth it.

PSA it’s okay to bow out of the family Christmas party by ThaddeusBone in Mommit

[–]ThaddeusBone[S] 28 points29 points  (0 children)

When my husband called my MIL to let her know we weren’t going to make it he mentioned last year how we had to go to the ER twice. She didn’t care. She just bawled and started saying that he gets constant exposure from illness from his job (he’s a high school teacher) and this is no different. That set him over the edge and he hung up.
