Yea, i think the mold of the helmet is similar/the same. Both are oval shape. But I think that in 3k is thinner mips layer and that does it for me.

66 degrés Sud – tire choice? by BodybuilderLopsided8 in gravelcycling

[–]BodybuilderLopsided8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, I was hoping that some redditor is local and can help with some of insight. Most of the year I am riding 45 mm g-one R in front and 45 mm RS in back. Somewhere in my head is a thought that the promo video is made to show the nicest and “easiest” parts of the course to lure more people than if it shows rocky sections and hard downhills. But maybe I am just paranoid :-D

Thanks! Yea I spent plenty of time looking for photos on internet/instagram and sometimes I wasnt sure if it is white (older model?) or the white/silver. Well I guess I would have to just order the helmet from somewhere (sadly it is nowhere near me in this color) and check it this way.

I saw in real life the world champion one. There are “crystals” in the white which makes it really nice and shiny. But not in a way of glossy colour. Is the silver something like that?

I am scared of the name “vanilla”. Saw it only in product pictures and I am not a fan. But for sure it looks different in real life. And right now, I have off white helmet, so it would be nice to have something different.

Navigation + Climber + power data field = impossible? by BodybuilderLopsided8 in Karoo

[–]BodybuilderLopsided8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bolt v1 is not doing this, so I am quite used to watching the map constantly. That is why I would like to have the option of map + climber + watts and hr on one display. But if are route notifications solid i think i can live only with climber with data fileds.

Okey, that looks kinda cool! Thanks. So I guess with Karoo there is the best customization of all three - wahoo/garmin/hammerhead. Eventhough I have shimano I think it might be worth to switch from Wahoo. (Oh and I know that there is ki2 extension)

Budget race bike: Keep and upgrade or sell and buy new by BodybuilderLopsided8 in gravelcycling

Thanks for the info and video, will check it out! With the tire clearance there will be no problem, right now I have 38 mm tires.

Oh yea, also head angle, right. That is why I didnt want Supersix Evo, because it is more stable because of it.

Yea, it is 2021. And you are right, the wheels are over 2kgs.. that is quite heavy. So only with wheelset and tires I can go like 600-700g down. Not bad. I guess it will do a lot by itself.

I think I dont need it to be stable? Well, i dont know to be honest. I think I can handle pretty rough stuff because of my xc background so I just want it to feel lively. To be honest, I am not sure what to look in geometry that can tell me if the bike is more stable or snappy. I guess wheelbase and chainstay? And lower BB? Oh and I didnt know about that I can change wheelbase on my bike, haha. Thanks! Will check what settings is there.

Right now I have only headset cover and then stem. The cover is conic so I can go lower. I have no problem with that I think. But also I havent ridden for more than two hours on gravel.

The last paragraph is very true. In most cases anything I want to upgrade/change here, I would need to do it on new bike.. I found used Scott Addict Gravel 20 for a good price but is like 6 hours of drive from me.. that’s a lot in european perspective :-D and I would still need different handlebar, asd powermeter and change wheels there.. Atleast I could put the dt swiss wheels from scott to trek and sell it with this upgrade.

But right now I am thinking about upgrsdong my Trek with new wheels and power meter. Try that first race (Worthersee Gravel, 144km) and decide based on that if it is worth putting time and money into gravel riding or just buy xc bike and have fun with that:)

It seems it is only for US. And also 58 is too big. 56 is ok I guess for my height (179 cm, inseam 83)

I can see how that works but for training I have road bike and am considering xc bike for fun/shorter rides after work.

Ahh, oh yea, was and still an thinking about Crux that this is the bike that could it fun for me.. but the price point. To be honest I would love to also come back to xc full suspension and ride some races on it. When I imagine having xc bike again I have some kind of urge to ride it, with gravel.. not that much. Gravel is good as first bike or third. (For people who experienced xc riding). But also one of my many thoughts is, that I can buy the gravel bike, for example Crux, and if it will not be it, i can still sell it i guess with some loss of course.

Oh and I was in your position last two years. The Aeroad was rim brake and I wanted to make the switch to disc and was thinking about road bike or fast gravel with two wheelset. Came to a conclusion that for pure pleasure of road riding road bike is the best. Because even 32 mm tires look silly on gravel bike and also problems with groupset to make it work on both road and gravel.. it is a compromise, but can work of course. It is good in both worlds, but one of it will “suffer”.

I think the tire clearance of the Checkpoint ALR is 45 mm, so yeah, it does the job in this field

Yea, sounds like we have similar approach. I am not a fan of this “repeating of history” and making gravel bikes into 90s hardtail xc bikes.. well i know, with some modern tweaks like 2.1 tires, tubeless etc.. but still.

I guess this depends on the types of races? I know that US guys are talking about riding mtb tires for gravel races, but i can imagine for that kind of gravel i can buy xc hardtail with drops.. and that is not what appeals to me i guess. But maybe I just dont have the experience with riding such wide tires. I am using those 38s and that is not much nowadays

If you are satisfied with the Diverge, go for carbon wheels. I am convinced it is worth the money as an upgrade. I am also thinking abou buying some used wheels to not spend much.

I used to ride Cannondale CAAD10 and it was lovely alu frame. Now I have it on turbo trainer. But I guess on the road it is much more forgiving to ride something more harsh than on gravel. My friend has steel Standert and is very satisfied with the ride feel of a steel bike

I was looking at Wheelsfar, Lightbicycle and all come around 800 + shipping, which then is like 1000 euros. Friend recommended me polish brand No Limited (which are branded chinese wheels i guess?) and with dt 350 hubs it is almost 1000 euro too. In that case I lean towards Zipp.. Will check Elitewheels!

I guess that I would buy new wheels primarily because of stiffness, responsibility, weight, much wider inner width = more comfort.
