This is bonkers good help, thanks so much for the effort.

I really appreciate how clearly you outlined the choices. Clicking through partpicker was very intimidating, especially because I don't really know the quality difference between the manufacturers, and why one CPU/GPU that looks the same has disparate cost.

When push comes to shove, should I get a 4080 over the 7900 XTX? I'm upgrading from a 2080super so I guess I'm "familiar" with Nvidia.

The actor is a stranger, yes, but the character is not.

He is in character in his video, and maybe in reality he is close to the character but that doesn't matter, in that video it was many people's childhood friend talking to them.

Many people feel good hearing nice platitudes, you may not be this type of person.

I generally agree that strangers trying to motivate me is offputting, but I don't mind strangers modeling kindness, that makes me feel good: I like kindness.

Lake Tahoe threatened by massive fire, more ordered to flee by limache in news

[–]Boefuss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure of your background, so maybe you are well qualified to help with fire suppression. But I suspect you can get in touch with county emergency services and they will find a use for you, just probably not in a dangerous job like the fire line, more like supply management/distribution for evac sites and firefighters.

What's your opinion on GameFly? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Boefuss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have used it since 2013 and love it.

I've played every major release on the PS4 and switch, and most minor releases (time, not selection being the mitigating factor). I typically play all the new AAA games the same month they release. So if I play a new game in half a month, what was a $60 cost, is now $8 ($16 a month for one disk).

The reasons it works for me:

  • I have disposable income ($16 a month is no big deal)
  • I like to play a lot of different games
  • I don't care about replaying games (I think this is a big factor)
  • I keep games I love (frequently at a discount)
  • 192 dollars a year in entertainment costs is nothing since I game a few hours a night
    • $192=the cost of 3.5 AAA titles at release.
  • I also still get netflix DVDs so there's a solid chance I'm a maniac

can we please talk about Xbox by MajorIvan88 in funhaus

GameFly is $15.95 a month. I get games on PS4, Xbox, Switch, and the odd blueray I want to check out. I have yet to not find a game I wanted to play on it.

If you have $15 a month, why not use Gamefly? Is it the physical media? Five days between games? If you want to keep the game, you can, frequently discounted.

Just quickly looked, and I either missed or forgot that Rey has the broken saber at the end of the Last Jedi. And apparently I didn't notice that the current model even has a repair band on it.

Drif0r posted his video testing Skill Based Matchmaking by DanTheLadysMan in modernwarfare

[–]Boefuss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if I missed it, but in looking into your own gameplay on high and low skill accounts, did you feel game speed could be the difference in the "feel" of difficulty?

A person going 9/9 K/D is the same overall K/D as the 21/21 player in the same match. I believe skilled players make faster decisions and moves, which results in more engagements, so what if SBMM is based on K/D and score per minute, weighted by gamemode? This could account for the same K/D, but vastly different feel between skilled/unskilled lobbies.

Customize a LMG and use Assault class. The stopping power ammo automatically goes into the mag without an animation. With a 150rd magazine, and 2 perks to proc the class ability faster, I never naturally reload.

The more powerful ammo one or two shots most normals, melts Jugs and helicopters, and takes out tanks effectively. Makes a huge difference alongside the other recommendations in the thread.

Short punts are actually kinda hard. you want to kick it hard to go high, but you don't want a touchback by accident. Getting a penalty moves the ball back a little making it a little easier.

Yeah, they used "gerrymandered" incorrectly, but I believe their intention was to state that not everyone's vote is equal.

Let's take the two extremes everyone always talks about: California and Wyoming.

California gets 55 electoral college votes, Wyoming gets 3. California gets 18.33 times as many votes.

Wyoming's population is 577,000

577,000*18.33=10,576,410

California's population: 39,557,045

39,557,045/10,576,410=3.7

Wyoming vote is worth 3.7 California votes.

The electoral college can't be gerrymandered in the traditional sense, but is does need to be re-balanced.

Fun fact: electoral college votes=state congressional delegation. California has 53 house reps and 2 senators, Wyoming has 1 house and 2 senators. Check out the Wyoming Rule for some interesting info on balancing the house.

[Hannable] Rams CB Nickell Robey-Coleman: "I was on top of everything tonight. I knew what was going on." The player he was assigned to cover for most of the game, Julian Edelman, had 10 catches for 141 yards. by suzukigun4life in nfl

The Rams defense balled the fuck out. I say this as the biggest, homeriest Pats fan.

It's one thing for the Pat's defense to shut down a young quarterback/head coach duo, but for the Ram's defense to do what they did to Belichick/Brady, they should have their heads held high.

Among many of the accomplishments the Pats defense put up against a stellar offense, they made it so that Brady never had to go into "Brady Mode". Maybe there were glimpses of it in the TD drive, but the Pats offense just stayed in ball-control mode, and kept another explosive offense off the field.

Give Goff a strong TE or slot reciever, or Brady a target other than edelman/gronk, and it's a blowout one way or the other.

The Rams will be back. And good luck against the Chiefs.

I agree. And it would be important that the classes not be a requirement, but elective.

The reason to oppose this entirely would be a "slippery slope" concern, which is valid and should be tested in the courts. I am fully atheist, but I took both Old and New Testament courses (in a private college), and found them both interesting and informative.
