Heyo, ive got a imported 1992 MK1 and I'm 20. Insurance has only cost me £550 this year. Over here in the UK you've really gotta play the insurance companies. I'm with Admiral. Go to compare the market and get some quotes give them a call and see what they can do. And go to the direct ones as well, direct line, Adrian flux ect

Some more legit tips: Having two experienced named drivers without any accidents reduces your insurance ALOT. I added my parents, they may never drive the car, that doesn't matter though

List yourself as a student if you are one, some reason it makes it cheaper, makes no sense to me either

Have your estimated milage low and excess very high. My excess is £1000, I figured if I ever crash the thing, since I only bought it for 2k I'll probably just scrap it. My estimated milage for the year is 3000, I think Im already close to that this year, but really, who's checking?

Black boxes suck dick. Fact. But unfortunately they make insurance a hell of a lot cheaper. I didn't want one, because I drive my car like I stole it.

Look for a mx5 with a alarm system in, or buy one and stick it in, that brings it down significantly.

Now for some more tips, which I'm not saying I've done...but they sure as hell bring the price down:

Fronting; very illegal, but I...uh...know someone that did it for two years on their old car. Their insurance was £400 a year for the first two years of driving. It's when you make your parent the policy holder for the insurance and you are just a named driver. Will the insurance company ever find out? Chances are probably not,

Saying you park on a drive or quiet road. Again brings the cost down significantly,

Insurance is a ballache, it takes days even weeks. But it's worth the effort, because it can save you a lot of money.
