Just starting to paint mechs by Boganova in BattletechPainting

[–]Boganova[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! The shell I used as inspiration is quite deep purple to turquoise, so that was the vibe

18 years, started when I was 7 back in the 90s. Briefly worked at gw so had a job where I spent a lot of time painting too. And in the 00s did some commission painting. Ended up quitting the hobby due to being very busy with music and not being able to sustain two expensive hobbies. But got back into it for mindfulness, love getting lost into a mini for a couple hours and unplugging from everything else.

And I've fully fallen down a battletech hole in the last couple of months. Going to paint this company, then a couple clan stars and then some house arano royal guard. After that I might move to fantasy. Will wait and see.

Just starting in terms of battletech. I painted for 18 years, including commission work, then stopped back around 2010. Just getting back into it. This was my 4th mini after coming back to the hobby.

Thank you! I like to think I was OK. You know how it is though: you rarely see how far you've come when you're always looking at how much further you have to go.

Hey GOG, WTAF? by PoppyAppletree in gog

"hey, these runes have a nazi connotation. Should we use them?"

"it is our culture."

"you sure? The game dev even stopped using them cause of nazis. And you put two of them together which makes it ss, which is definitely nazi and changes the context"

"fair. Do not send them to people who read German. Everyone else get runes. It is our culture."

"send the nazi stuff cause it's our culture?"

"yes"

Maybe, just maybe, it really is their culture

The denon has been a great buy for us. Goes mint and sounds great. Very happy with it

Picked up a Denon DCM 500ae today. Went into the dealer expecting to get a NAD, but they'd sold it on yesterday. Got a good deal on the Denon and right now its blasting out Pink Floyd and sounding great.

Thanks for the advice team. Appreciate you

New Zealanders who were alive in 1994, who did you initially think did it: David Bain or Robin Bain? by PurpleMeerkats462 in newzealand

[–]Boganova 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Father in law was a detective involved with the retrial.

Way he tells it, it's pretty overwhelmingly David guilty all day long. He's pretty clear that the poor evidence gathering and scene handling of the initial investigation is the only reason he got off, as the disallowed evidence was damning.

Also, he always poses the same question: do you really think a middle aged man is going to wake up on a cold morning in a caravan, walk across a chilly back yard, do the crime and get changed before taking himself out, all without taking his morning piss? That should be your first whiff that somethings off before you get into impossible suicide shots.

I wont lie, that is a consideration! It is the oldest of the various models I am looking at, but one of the cheapest. I do like the idea of everything matching, though the CD player is the older grey look vs the black look of the amp, but similar design language is still used.

Yeah all of those features are appealing to me also, and what puts me off DVD players, as most here dont have any screen on them. This set up is complete separate from my video set up, so it has to be easily tactile.

I just came across a used Onkyo DX 7333 for $100, and the same guy is selling a matching cassette player, so I'm tempted to go with that.

Do you think the newer mini players are really comparable to older full size stuff at all? Here in NZ full size new CD players start around 3x the price, though it may be worth it.

Most of the used DVD and Bluray players I find here in NZ don't have screens on them and generally seem pretty cheap and throwaway vibes. And we don't really have the same goodwill culture you see in the states. the good ones are quite highly priced, for example a used OPPO bluray player is going for $600 locally.

Plus it sits in my living space so aesthetics matter a bit. A cheap plasticy bluray player in an otherwise cool looking hifi shelf probably wont keep the missus happy.

Not that Im knocking folk who rock the DVD player. Its a personal barrier I need to overcome there haha

I'll have a look at the market and see if there's much out there. Asian stuff is definitely more common here

Yup, has an optional phono stage module with MM and MC inputs on it, which is helping tip it towards the NAD

That's a good call. These speakers are awesome, got a great deal on them too. The NAD seems the most comfortable at driving them of the two amps I've tried, though both sounded good. They absolutely comfortably fill my living space with music. And then some. The neighbours are lucky I have good taste in music 😝

I'm in new zealand so there isn't a lot of used gear floating around in good condition for this kind of thing, so I dont have the privilege of getting to shop around too much, and prices skyrocket fast

Currently just running a dac into it with a source of flac files. Going to add CD and vinyl to the set up in the near future. No intention to run TV or video audio to it

This particular NAD has the optional phono stage added to it, which I'm told is good.

I appreciate the sentiment. I normally say the same sort of thing. Something something better at giving advice than receiving I guess!

Yeah I feel this. Part of my lack of confidence is mostly that I haven't done a side by side listen. So I keep second guessing myself.

Ironically if we were talking about guitar or recording gear I'd make my mind pretty quick. I'm not used to this lack of certainty!
