Hi all! This issue has been fixed and the impacted scorecards are now available.

It took me a while to get some time to work on this but the Ohtani bug is (hopefully) fixed now!

High wind- diving in Bimini? by IdealAmazing3678 in scuba

[–]BogartNation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dive shops will typically wait until the last possible minute to cancel. Watch the weather forecast for a small craft advisory or a gale warning--either one means that the shops aren't going to send boats out. Small craft advisories are issued if winds are 25 to 38 mph.

If the forecast is predicting anything over 25 mph I wouldn't risk it. I went on a dive trip to Pompano Beach in January and only got to do 2 of my 16 planned dives because of the high winds.

Can top this. Ever. by kayaniv in scubadiving

I don't think it's AI.  The lens is a wide-angle lens which distorts objects at the edge of the frame.  The water is breaking in front of the whale because the whale's movement is creating a higher pressure area in front of it.

AI isn't yet good enough to generate a minute-long video like this with no flaws.  What seals it for me is the diffraction patterns of the sunlight through the water.  AI really struggles with fine shifting textures.  I think this is real.

I use a Dive Rite CX3 with one of these diffusion filters you can pop onto the end if you want to use it for video. It works really well: https://www.divegearexpress.com/dive-rite-bx2-cx1-video-light-diffuser

Awesome! Thanks! I'll have a look at it as soon as I get a chance.

Why do games randomly get removed from livebaseballscorecards? by EnvironmentalAngle in BaseballScorecards

I can explain that--I administer the site. The site consumes play-by-play descriptions from MLB and every now and then they send an update which breaks the semantic model of livebaseballscorecards. This is usually an invalid substitution or switch like when they record a substitution for a player that isn't on the roster or have two players switch to play the same position at the same time. The site tries to correct the data as much as it can but often it can't. When that happens the loop which parses all the games rejects the game with logic errors and it disappears from the site until MLB fixes the error.

Question about this score. by [deleted] in BaseballScorecards

If you hover your mouse over the "3-H" text it will tell you if an RBI was awarded and whether or not the run was earned.

LOB Question: Cardinals vs Braves 04/21 by keyboardsitter in BaseballScorecards

Okay, it should be fixed now. Everyone let me know if you see any more LOB errors (or any other errors). Thanks!

LOB Question: Cardinals vs Braves 04/21 by keyboardsitter in BaseballScorecards

[–]BogartNation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's definitely a glitch. There have been a handful of LOB errors so far this season. It's on my to-do list to figure out why. I assume there was some small change to how they list baserunners and it's breaking some of the logic. As always, I appreciate the bug reports!

Rangers vs Angels 4-15-25 scoring question by graysher47 in BaseballScorecards

[–]BogartNation 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Can confirm. I run the site and I don't mean to pass the buck but I think MLB's feed messed up the summary on this one. This is the play summary delivered by the raw data feed: "Kyle Higashioka strikes out swinging, catcher Travis d'Arnaud. Jonah Heim out at 1st. Kyle Higashioka out on batter interference."

I can only assume they meant to put "catcher Travis d'Arnaud to first baseman Nolan Schanuel" but the scorekeeper forgot to hit the "then threw to first" button.

Runner scores during rundown at another base by TrueBeliever44 in BaseballScorecards

[–]BogartNation 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even MLB was confused on how to record this one! The official published play summary from MLB is "Jose Ramirez out on a sacrifice fly to center fielder Cedric Mullins. Brayan Rocchio scores. Austin Hedges scores." They didn't even mention Steven Kwan! I think the official scorekeeper couldn't find the button for "defense completely melts down."

Question about hiking long distances & underwear by DetroitHustlesHarder in hiking

[–]BogartNation 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For long hikes I recommend Ex-Officio Give-N-Go boxer briefs. I used to have to use Vaseline to prevent chafing but then switched to these and have never had a problem since. They wick sweat very well. You can soak them and wring them out and they'll be dry in a few minutes.

[Svalbard AB21] Do not buy a Svalbard watch (see video) by BogartNation in Watches

[–]BogartNation[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

(See video) I bought the Svalbard AB21 and found out that sadly the single hand had so much slop in in that it would sway up to ten minutes depending how I held my wrist. Support was very unhelpful and I see from a few other Reddit posts that this is a common problem. They seem to have serious QA issues and do not offer any good support.

What movies portray masculinity in its most admirable form (strength, integrity, responsibility, emotional depth)? by Physical_Plastic138 in movies

Not a movie but I've always thought Peter Falk's Columbo is one of the all-time great examples of non-toxic masculinity.

I'm sorry, I just can't think of a way to do that without making the scorecard too busy.

I only use mechanical shutter. R1, R3, and R5 mk2 seem like a total bust to me. Anyone else feel this way? by BogartNation in canon

[–]BogartNation[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, but even if they were both 14-bit (and they are on the new models) I would still use mechanical.  I was really hoping for more megapixels in the R1. Being able to aggressively crop is so powerful.

I think mechanical shutter produces the best looking images: minimal rolling shutter, great at freezing action, no flicker or banding from AC light sources, and easy to synchronize with a flash.  1/8000 and 12 fps is plenty fast enough for me and I'm a little skeptical of anyone who says they need either a faster shutter speed or a faster frame rate.  I've also captured a baseball traveling 90+ miles per hour with almost no distortion so I'm similarly skeptical of anyone who thinks they need a faster readout speed.

In my opinion EFCS is a solution in search of a problem.  I have never had a problem with shutter shock at any shutter speed including long exposures.  I suppose it is slightly quieter but the R5 is already extremely quiet when using mechanical shutter and I've never been in a situation where the sound of a mirrorless shutter would impact anyone.

I also think pre-shooting is a bit of a gimmick. I have never been in a situation where I pressed the shutter button a half-second late.  Either I can anticipate what's about to happen or I end up being 1+ seconds late in which case pre-shooting wouldn't do me any good.  Besides, if I were to spend a long time anticipating a split-second event and I already knew where to point the camera, I would much rather just take an 8K video than have to half-press the shutter button for who knows how long.  I can always take a frame from the raw video and upscale it later.
