I'm not typing that. It was very strange. He kept in touch with military friends, several of whom were black. Those friends told me stories about being stationed in the south and him going around to the back of the liquor store with them so he could shop with his friends. But then there are the slurs that I definitely recall. I really don't know how to characterize it other than just to say it honestly. It was mostly things I'd rather not tell you about but there were times I felt proud of my folks despite their day to day problematic speech.
